For all those men who say, Why buy a cow when you can get milk for free. Here's an update for you: Nowadays, 80% of women are against marriage, WHY? They take soooooooo long to mature. 9. Men are like .....Mascara . They usually run at the first sign of emotion. 10. Men are like .Popcorn .... They satisfy you, but only for a little while. 11. Hi reg The jet to replace is the longer one of the two. Look through the air intake to see both jets. In order to remove the jet you will require a jet removal tool or a pair of long nosed pliers but be carful not to damage the thread on the bottom of the carb body. The Amal Jets are numbered. If it is numbered 45 or 50 it is a 10:1 jet, if it is numbered 40 it is a converted 25:1 jet. I always run the carb dry after a run as it reduces the amount of oily goo left in the carb body if the engine iis not used regularly. Coddy
  9. Hi Adam There is a company that advertises on Boats and Outboards importing american craft, mostly Trophy's at what looks like super prices. They say they look after all the paperwork but I have seen some bad reports towards this company on another forum. The customer may have been unlucky but it is a lot of money to allow chance to happen. I too have been thinking in upgrading to a larger craft but will wait until the "Red Diesel" debate has cooled down and see if the aledge sale of diesel craft takes off. If you are thinking on changing a petrol to diesel, have a word with Salar as he did it on his boat. He would also give you some idea on petrol consumption against diesel. Coddy
  10. Hi all Bill and I took Sammy out for a spin today! The weather looked c**p but as neither of us have been out for a number of weeks it seemed a good idea at the time. After launching we raced up the harbour at 20+kts (no speed limit this time of year) on flat water and got to the harbour entrance expecting a choppy sea. When we got there it was flat calm so we headed off towards Bournemouth pier at high speed again. However no sooner had we got there the wind started to get up and the sea very quickly changed to a nasty chop and with weather warnings being given by the Coastguard we head back to Poole at a much reduced speed after a few drifts between piers. We then went down river to see if we could bag a flounder but nothing was interested except millions of crabs robbing the bait in seconds. The wind was getting stronger all the time and the Harbour master giving out winds speeds of 20kts gusting to 28kts! Then it started to lightly rain so at 2.00pm we said enough was enough and we headed back in. So no fish caught but it was good to have a blast around on the boat and get some fresh air. Coddy

Hi Reg Your motor is a Silver Century Plus with clutch, made Oct 1977 - Standard or Short Shaft WSPC = Silver Century Plus with clutch (if it had an L as well it would mean Longshaft) JJ = October 7 = 1977 Gearbox oil should be EP140 You could have one of two types of carbs both made by Amal If the float chamber is offset it is the common 2 jet version the other has a round float bowl under the carb body, a Amal 416. Both these carbs can have the Power Jet changed so it can run on 25:1 mix. Points should be set at 20 thou or 0.5mm Plugs 35 thou or 0.9mm Use only solid wire plug lead unless contactless points (yours should not have this) Hope the above helps Regards Coddy

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL in removing the head bolts. They are normal steel and the threads go straight into the waterways so often rust up and snap! The bolt size is also the old imperial sizes (BSF) so a good set of spanners and sockets are needed. I have been fixing Seagull engines for a number of years and find they are most underated for shear pulling power. Might not get much speed but will cope with most tides. Tip - always keep the fuel tap covered in fuel as the cork stopper dries out and it will leak like mad if allowed to dry out. If you let me know what the serial number of the engine is I should be able to advise you about the engine. Fuel mix should be 10:1 not 12:1 due to the basic design it requires the oil to lubricate everything unless you have fitted a new needle or jet in the carb, Villers needs the needle and Amal carbs use jets. With the conversion the mix is 25:1 This conversion can only be done to post 1967 engines. Unleaded fuel is fine just keep it in an air tight container to stop the fuel going off. Regards Coddy
  14. Hi Jack You will soon become "the" expert on Holes Bay flounder then. On a spring tide it might be good fun sitting at an angle on the mud Better get out next week-end for the Flounder bash comp then! Coddy
  15. Bet that is as bad as the Queen Mary 2 for fuel .................. 27inches per gallon! Shame about the Red diesel now! Coddy

  22. I recently had a problem with my Mariner 60hp 4-stroke. There is a metal gasket between the engine and gearbox which blew, when the engine was revved the exhaust pressure stopped the water flow as it pressurised the cooling system! As the engine had only done about 180hrs from new I did not think this was very good but the engine is now 4yrs old so I could not make any sort of claim from Mariner. Seems that Mariner/Mercury engines are the marine "Ford" and parts are easily obtainable but still not cheap as a Ford! Good luck with your repairs Coddy
  23. Just to cheer you all up Up at 5.30am Sunday morning and got a taxi to the harbour to join a charter trip from Sydney. The boat is an old wooden plodder about 60ft long and in total there was about 20 of us. Only a couple of fellows had brought their own gear, looked fairly heavy about 30lb class, I there is me thinking this might be a bit of fun! Most of the guys also brought their girlfriend/partner/wife along too which made the senery even better as most were in the 20 - 30yr old group! (I am allowed to window shop before anyone says anything! Just must not try the goods however!) Nice run up the harbour under Sydney bridge and past the Opera house and about 3/4hr later we went out of the harbour entrance and was met with a 2mtr swell. We plodded on and started to drift over a bank and soon we were into yellow Leather Jackets or something like that. These small yellow fish have some nasty teeth! I managed to catch some mackeral which were quickly snatched up for bait. Drifting continued for most of the day catching some large Bream, Gurnards, parrot type fish but nothing of super size. About 1pm we started to head back home having had the BBQ going most of the time. Many of the "young" people started drinking early and were soon making "burley" for the rest of us. Nice day out in the sun at about 28C shame about the swell. If only it was summer time in the UK now Coddy
