    Blonde Joke

Sick Leave I urgently needed a few days off work, but I knew the Boss would not allow me to take leave. I thought that maybe if I acted "CRAZY" then he would tell me to take a few days off. So I hung upside-down on the ceiling and made funny noises. My co-worker (who's blonde) asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb so that the Boss might think I was "CRAZY" and give me a few days off. A few minutes later the Boss came into the office and asked "What in the name of god are you doing?" I told him I was a light bulb. He said "You are clearly stressed out. Go home and recuperate for a couple of days". I jumped down and walked out of the office. When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the Boss asked her "...And where do you think you're going?" (You're gonna love this..... ) She said, "I'm going home too, I can't work in the dark! Coddy

    Quick Trip Out

Hi Went out tonight for a quick trip with my son, just got past the chain ferry and opened her up when on came the engine alarm! After a quick check saw that the engine tell tale pee was not as positive as usual so a quick U turn back into the harbour after switching off the engine and re-starting. The water felt very hot so I suspect water impellor problem! Oh the joys of boating. Engine is due for a service anyway so looks like I wont be out fishing this week-end unless anyone wants crew. Tied up to a buoy near Brownsea castle but nothing was biteing, watched the RNLI out on a shout around Shell Bay area following a mayday call with both boats out! Found the casualty and taken to hospital. Coddy

    Hi Folks

Hi SHropfisher Welcome to the best and madest site on the web! I too moved down nearly 2yrs ago (my god how quick time flys when you are having fun! ) Great bunch of people and a great club. Hope to meet up with you soon Coddy aka Dave S
  8. Hi all, As a relative newbie to the club and area, I thought I would post what we tried in the Bedford Sea Angling Club when we could only fish Sunday's due to it being the "best day" but numbers dropped off. We opened the comp to the Saturday and Sunday of that week-end. There had to be at least 3 people on our club boats, but 2 would do here, to verify any catch. You had to nominate the day you were going to fish BEFORE the date of the comp, which was normally on a Tuesday for us in Bedford. If you got blown off on Staurday but others fished Sunday then tuff, it was a chance you took or the only day you could fish. Like the PBSBAC it was all on trust and there were no "prizes" as such so if you wanted to cheat to get your name on a shield so be it. Therefore it may be worth the club trying a comp where people could fish either day, but not both, for the comp. This allows those who can not fish Sunday but could get away on Saturday to have a go. If you can fish both days you then pick the day you want to comp fish and the other as your "go for it" day. As I say names would have to be sent in stating which day you proposed to fish the comp. Just my two penny's worth. Coddy

    Clan Mcvey

Hi Dan Fished it once and did quite well from what I recall, it was earlier this year and my memory is not that good! Whilst I was there Bob F came by and marked the wreck exactly for me and I was about 20yds off it. Bob said his sounder showed it to be small and snaggy, no great lump. I would anchor uptide and trot bait back towards it, might save some gear that way! It's not that far from X-Ray Coddy
  10. Hi Andy Slipway information: Ramp Description: Concrete ramp leading to hard sand beach. The ramp is public and can get busy in the hot weather, the car park can also be very busy in high season. Trailers can be left at top of ramp in trailer parking area. Best for large boats at 1-2 hours either side of tide. Speed restrictions 8 knots 300 metres from beach marked by yellow buoys. Chichester District Council operate a Safety Patrol Service from this location, they do not offer a launching service but the staff there will assist with launching/retrieval where difficulties are being experienced, this will be carried out without charge. Directions: From Portsmouth follow A 27 to Chichester roundabout, turn right onto A286 for Witterings, follow main road till petrol garage on right, then turn left at mini-roundabout B2198 and follow the road to Bracklesham. Car park and good slipway at the end of this road. Ramp Type: Concrete onto beach. Upper Area: Concrete Lower Area: Sand Suitability: Large trailer needs a car Ramp Length: 1/4 tidal Facilities: Cafeteria, drinks, toilets, shops pubs, fuel about 300 yards. Fish and chips, camping sites, children's water toys at top of ramp. Steps leading to ramp are good viewing point of Solent and Isle of Wight on clear day. Watch for red flag as good indication of wind state, this area often wins on the clean beach guide and is very good for children of all ages. Charges: No charge for launching. Car park charges for car only, trailer free. Cruising Area: Solent. Navigational Hazards: The ramp area is nearly always crowded with small children so BE VERY CAREFUL as ramp is only 10 feet wide and used for playing by the bucket and spade brigade. I suspect you may need a 4x4 depending on weight of outfit. Boulder Bank has small Bream, LSD's, Wrasse, pollock (Fish Flood only) Medmery - Rays if you are lucky Pullar - Tope & Rays Bracklesham Bay - Bass, Bream Brake Ledge - Bream & Wrasse (Fish Ebb only) I have heard that weed is about and big big tides I suspect there will be plenty around! Look forward to your report back Coddy

  14. Following Tonys post, I have copied his message here as those who like to fish or target Tope as a species should respond to the consultation. Save Our Sharks is a group of enthusiastic fishermen who are trying to conserve ALL sharks. I have added a message I received from them here and I ask all member to take the time to send their thoughts to DEFRA. If the worst happens, it would be illegal to ever target Tope again! There is even a sample letter available on the SOS site which you can copy and email to DEFRA Thanks Coddy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi All You may have already heard on the grapevine that SOS has finally got the chance to help make the tope a recreational only species. Please look at the new SOS front page for details. here It is important we get as many anglers, charter skippers, hoteliers, tackle dealers etc... in order to respond to the consultation. To accomplish this we need some help. If you can spare a few hours in helping compile emailing lists, emailing dealers, talking to tackle dealers etc
  15. For those interested here is a direct link to the index of the Tope page Tope Consultation Tony's link was missing the www Sorry to correct you Tony. Interesting reading seems we all spend on average just over

    Help

  18. Well done Trev and all on Aquafresh I will soon get the hang of this fishing lark ................................I hope Coddy
  19. Well after reading about everyone's super exploits I feel I should add my little poor report to balance the situation. I have at last got my live bait tank up and running so Saturday morning Bill and I launched from Wick and went and found a nice load of macky, then over to the bridge to find it almost deserted of craft, bad omen but did see Aquafresh and gave them a wave. Bill was again trying the float method and I was bottom bouncing, guess who lost gear! Oh well I did feel the bait going mad and thought it was getting excited but no takes and none for Bill as well so after a couple of hours gave it up and went over to Freshwater bay. Managed to hook into a smalleye ray but that was wall so we came back to Christchurch ledge and found we were almost the only boat there! Not a good sign we thought and we were right not a single bite! Had a yacht nearly hit us as we were at anchor and they got a right mouthful, with so much sea around they would not turn away until the last minute and I was almost at the point of starting the engine to get out of its way. Saw the yacht later tied up at Christchurch Yacht club, felt like thowing a smelly fish onto her decks! So off to a spot on Xray and we were straight into dogs and bream but at least they were keeping us busy and took care of a couple of hours before steaming back home. Not a great day fishwise for us but still learning the area and marks which it is all about. Those Bass still elude us but will continue to keep trying until we get it right. Still it was good to be out although the short chop in the late afternoon did make traveling westwards at bit bouncy. Coddy
  20. Gordon Happy to pick them up for you and drop them to your house, just need the address, Ringwood I think? Cant send them in post as explosives! Coddy
  21. I am travelling to Oxford most days next week so if anyone wants anything picking up from Kam's and bringing down to Poole let me know. Coddy
  22. Hi James I nearly know how you feel. fell out of the back door the other day when my ankle gave way, had a cordless drill in one hand as well! Fell onto the drive and scraped my arm and fell backwards into next doors panel fence and just about distroyed that. Had to pay for a new panel as well! Give it a couple of weeks and I am sure you will find a way to hobble around on sticks. Take it easy and earn some of those brownie points! Coddy
  23. I thought I would add my two pennies worth here. Since being relatively new to both the club and fishing area I never expect to win but use the exercise to learn new fishing methods, locations and methods. I fished the last club comp and did better than I did in the last comp, which is pleasing for me as I caught more and different species. I fish for fun, very rarely keep any fish but enjoy the fun, camaraderie, boating and learning new skills. I had the dubious task of running a species comp for another group of friends this year and "borrowed" the club's format and from the comments fed back it seemed to be very fair and good fun especially when trying to get that 4th fish for the bonus point. So, if you want to take comp's seriously you can, if you like a bit of fun and trying out your skills have a go, even if you only get a couple of fish it is all a learning game. Just ask how long the Bass gods have been at it to get the respect they have on their favourite target. I would like to try a night session for Sole, but it is just finding the time, weather and availability of it all for me. Off my small soap box now Coddy

    Trailer

For what it is worth I have towed my Warrior without brakes fitted to save the damage from immersing the trailer at Baiter! Anyway, the effect from not having brakes is huge and would not do it again let alone if I needed to stop in a hurry if someone or something jumped out in front of me! Also it is worth noting that you would need to lock up the head stock of the trailer to prevent it from moving, which it normaly does when pressing the brakes on, as a replacement head from indispention is over
