    Nikon D-80

Dave, Ive asked my son and he says its definitely more than 20k, as the counter rests itself after this amount. We have had it for 2yrs, and aquired it from a family member who bought it. We believe its 4yrs old, and has 40 -50k counts, 20k by my son. Sorry cant be more specific, unless you know how to get this number from the camera itself. Regards Paul

    Rust stains

Hi Colin, dont forget gloves if you have any small cuts on your hands..... smarts like bu%4#ry Ive had success with sealing the rail bases as well with silicon but you have to get rid of all the red stuff. Paul
  10. Brian, I am dismayed that these guys dont immediately think this is illegal, do the right thing and report this information to the Marine crime unit. As I understand it - this unit is being hit by funding cuts and may be disbanded altogether in Poole. Its probably due to their profile not being as high as it should be. I lost over

    Otter is back

Great news Trevor... I do love the Harbour this time of year with no speed limits..... Lovely flat conditions, and full power... but ask yourself how often do I get that out at sea? And the extra torque and power comes in handy when you have a boat full of anglers and gear and a few boxes of fish!! Good luck Matey. Paul
  13. Graham, I thought you'd gone crazy for a moment - but was deeply envious of your 7000i or whatever! You really had me going!! Nice bit of kit though! Paul I'll look at the redcar site Nige, thanks., for this, and perhaps check out the Garmins.
  14. Great start chaps - thanks for the info so far. The Insurance should give me the basic last list price of replacing what was taken. However most of my stuff was discontinued, so they will price up a replacement based on the same spec. So it could be
  15. Hi Chaps Chances are I will be buying one or two of these units.. soon. Having only used what previous owners installed on my boats, choosing myself is a nightmare. I have no clue what is out there. I've been considering whether to go with a combination unit and max out the screen size. Plotter was 6" which was fine, but FF was too small at 4" when viewed from the deck. Would be a big improvement running on a larger screen. Is this what most people have got or would get if they had a free choice..? Make and model number and any pros and cons would be fantastic help. Thanks Guys in advance. Paul
  16. This is even more maddening seeing all those cracking cod coming up, great fishing Paul and Nige... I dont suppose anything will happen that quickly with yamaha parts, but at least its fixable. I wont need a plotter or fishfinder... I'll be able to see the swarm of boats arround marine boy and Wishin for miles... Paul
  17. Thanks Guys for all the comments and helpful advice. I posted this public to give everyone a 'heads up'. I think the PIR is a great tool. One call to the Harbour master or Police would get a response hopefully or to the Boatwatch brigade. Certainly Police should know who to contact on boat watch as they may be on the scene faster than the police can manage.... I like the idea Mike of a club security meet - some stuff is pretty specific to the animal though. I have a wire stop - the sort for cabling motorcycles plastic coated - which I use for the tender. I could get this onto the chain below the rope strop and lock it inside the anchor well. That wouldnt add much time to my dropping the mooring - provided I can get the lock off. Anyway, I feel that I transport enough clutter each time I go out, without carrying all the fuel and my instruments... so will just reduce the amount of fuel held on board.
  18. As mentioned to some (endlessly...it seemed) at Sundays weigh in.. On Saturday I discovered my boat was missing from her swinging mooring. On closer inspection there was no sign of her in the Marina, so by this time I was getting a bit worried. A short scan with the clubs binoculars, and there is something with a blue hull over in the wych channel, half a mile away. A quick phone call to Charlie, and he confirms the boat was reported not on her mooring. So a high speed run in the RIB out to the wych, and straight away I saw the engine down, so I knew she hadnt been moved there by anyone in the club. Step on board to be greeted by the cabin window on the deck, and a few engine bolts on the tray. Sure enough, no power to the engine, but it didnt matter, as 50L of fuel and the tanks have gone so I wasnt going anywhere.. In getting into the locker, they have ripped the security fitting off its fixings. Bizarrely, the cabin door stood up to the jemmy or screw driver, and was still locked, but the window had been removed by undoing the screws. On entry to the cabin I knew the lockers had been gone through and the garmin 250C fishfinder and Navman 5600 tracker/plotter had been taken. Who ever did this must have used their 'young lad' to get in through the hole in the door left by the window. Worse is that this thieving will be perpetuated as this lad grows up, because he's seen how easy they can get away with it!! When I got back into the haven, I had the engine cover off to reveal in a few moments that at least the CDI unit and regulator have been taken off. Obviously 'stolen' to order. So now I'm filling in the claim form answering questions like, "what precautions will you or have you taken to prevent a re-occurrence?" Short of saying something very rude and to the point about removing the equivalent weight of dangly objects as was taken from me from the scum who did this, I'm at a loss to describe what I'll do in such a small space on the form... Learning points are a good start and to be a bit more constructive... KILL ... KILL... KILL... sorry forgot...my train of thought It shouldnt be easy to remove a boat from her mooring and tow away - any ideas? - fit a tracker linked to GPS ?? - I've seen these. - Fit a safety chain and padlock ?? - probably wouldnt open when I wanted to use the boat. - Fit a camera/ CCTV - wouldnt have helped at night unless infra red, and wouldnt have stopped the thieving actually happening. - Step up the Harbour patrols at night using volunteers boats - couple of hours each. Leave fuel and other lockers unlocked and dont leave excess fuel Take plotter and other valuble instruments home Fix high value parts on your engine with security bolts (hollow head torqs?) Cabin windows were easily removed in less than 5 minutes with a cross head screwdriver. Make these harder to remove by bolting through, or use security screws, or have screws on the inside, not the outside. Any other thoughts welcome. And as suggested by the insurers, there is a reward for anyone who recovers items or passes on information leading to the recovery of stolen engine parts from my Yamaha 80, or recovers the Plotter / FF. I'm estimating to replace with new will be >2K, let alone the labour, and I doubt the insurers will give me that. Paul

    Trying to find info

I must admit to being fairly ignorant of what is lawful and what is not with regard to netting. It seems OK all over the place but what is it that makes the difference near the entrance to christchurch run? - and I dont mean the run of sea trout and salmon. whilst this was a plainly daylight activity, I'm always amazed how many people are afloat at night-time on the rare occasions I'm out , and I can't believe its all legal fishing. Its good to publicise these numbers and also maybe the law regarding nettting and illegal fishing would be worthwhile as well. Paul
  20. Brian, I hope I can succeed and download something eventually. I class myself as of above average IT literacy, with a reasonably fast broadband connection- but have failed to download much of this document. As a last resort, I'll get my son to download it as he has the fastest computer in the house!! I dont suppose there is an exec summary? Paul edit... I've just tried to download all 100 pages of the 'summary' and it wont have it, so time to get my bandwidth back by cutting the power to the upstairs bedrooms (one in particular!!)
  21. Just grey squirrells and roe deer about 10 foot away at Arne, but they dont count as i didnt touch the trace. I did hear lots of banter on ch6 during the day, which proved i was taking part by being afloat but sadly not fishing. saving myself for the windy open.....Paul
  22. Nice One Alan!! have I been asleep on the forums or is that a new boat Dave ?? Paul
  23. Jim, Sounds like you werent the only one.... we had a bassless day on Imagine also... What started off as a day full of promise, turned into a very lumpy day drifting on Christchurch ledge, and a wet trip thumping back into the waves (so bad we had the cabin door shut!) Anyway,on the way back, we stopped off near bournemouth pier and had a hectic half hour on the mackerel , so it wasnt all bad news. Good to be out, and get some cobwebs blown away, thanks Charlie for crewing and sorry you'll have to clean that trophy for someone else. Paul
  24. What a wind up!!! Boat is finally sorted with a new prop, but not without a certain amount of faffing arround today... Apparently, I knew nothing about propellers except how to take one off, so much so that I couldnt get a new one until I'd gone down to the boat, fetched her off the mooring and checked the numbers on the prop (13.5 x 15) Then nowhere in Poole could come up with one, Prop Solutions and salterns drew a blank, but promised more coming in next week !! So the only option was 3 hours in the car on a friday pm and a trip back to lymington and BHG. However, I'm pretty chuffed with the new one.. it sort of slices the water instead of thrashing it like the other one did. Even before it was 'bent to buggery' the leading edges had become pitted and blunt...and it was probably out of balance. End result is a lot less vibration and the performance even on a short run up the channel tonight was amazing... All I've got to do on Sunday is to remember how to catch fish... its been a while.... Paul
