A friend of mine is investigating a local supplier for these anti theft hoods - This is from the Cumbria Police website.... South Cumbria police launch initiative to deter boat thieves Cumbria Constabulary has launched a new crime prevention initiative to tackle the growing problem of thefts from boats in the south of the county. After a number of outboard engines were stolen in the area last year, South Lakeland

Graham, sorry I dont have any spare... but if you are offered a longer length, you could try what I do and have two lengths - one about the length of the boat for the summer fishing, and then another piece which you can join on with shackles for the winter months. The crews loath it on recovery, but I havent dragged yet. Just gives you a bit of extra grip in the swells. Regards Paul

Charlie, I'll bring to the meeting if you want to have a look Regards Paul

We've recently upgraded our TV, so the old one will go on Freecycle but.... If anyone on the forum would like it Free of Charge.. please get in touch. Model is JVC AV28CT1EK.. it has 3 SCARTs for connection of various DVD / Video / Freeview box etc. The remote works fine, in fact everything works fine, but it has no real value on th open market , even though its not that old. Mike If you like something a bit more modern, try Vesuvio restaurant on the beach at Durley Chine. its a proper Italian and being on the beach the atmosphere is great for a stroll along the prom afterwards...though I wouldnt recommend going behind the groynes.... They have a website so you can check out the main courses. Regards Paul Though I also say La Mamma is a great busy restaurant - we like this as well but its not 'something special' sorry

I hate the fog... its the only thing guaranteed to spoil your day, once you have remembered everything else on the boat, got the wind and tide forecast spot on.. set off... and oh bugger..... It can even be found mid channel when its perfect vis inshore... and pops up on those calm summer evenings.. suddenly. I'm sure the answer lies in a number of diferent systems an approaches and not just broadband radar... Paul

Duncan, I've often wondered whether the Club could negotiate a group rate with a major insurer to get the terms we want, better than an individual. And also, members would benefit from those with experience of the pitfalls of under-insurance would be able to protect those new to boat owning. As a club, we have a healthy financial balance, which we could get more benefit from and in the absence of a long term or realistic / practical plan for investment leading to something tangible (sponsored slipway or clubhouse etc etc) - discounting insurance or a group policy - would this work ? I probably wouldnt go to Alderney in my boat, but there's not much difference between heading for Poole at the end of the day from the Rips or going to Braye - and in terms of insurance not much either. Good post, thanks!! Paul

lovely Boat Tomo, should have no problems given the right purchaser! What is the bigger boat ? Regards Paul

I'm the same, though insured through Haven Knox Johnston - very nice people, and the underwriter is a fe yards away to make decisions like this. Also when I couldnt get the boat off the swinging mooring due to poor weather at the end of the season, a quick call sorted this out and they just said if she ended up on the rocks, then all I would lose would be the excess on the policy. I'd be interested to know of an insurer who would extend the range to Alderney for a Cat C boat - as in the past Raider18' s have made the trip (though not with PBSBAC as far as I know). I got 'mid Channel' coverage but excluding Channel Islands in the end. Paul

errr Alun - arent you 'jumping the gun' slightly here ? So lavishly displaying your - sorry- the trophy, on your carpet before anyone has attempted to fish for it ??? I even notice our comp secretary falling into the word trap... "You'd have had a tin of beans if it had been left to me this year!" rather than "there would be" etc ect OK..posting impulse over for the evening. Paul

There's a very nice 5-6m RIB down the road from me, bought brand new 15 years ago, used once and then left to push daisies.... I am tempted to ask whether the guy wants to sell it on..... but I dont have enough time to use my own boat let alone start a project... but it seems a shame to let it go.... Anyone interested ???? Paul

Oddly enough, Christchurch Angling do Sakuma hooks -they are a almost perfect round bend /gape and very sharp - but then so are most new hooks. I think it comes down to making sure the hooks are very sharp and fit the bait. You're not going to snap a wire hook in a cods mouth I just dont like the 'meat hook' style O shaunessy, I dont fish with heavy enough mono to do the eye on the hook justice!!! Paul

Hi Dave, I'm not the worlds expert on the Harbour... but the ground infront of the castle has only produced bait fish for me and a few larger Pollack on feathers. Its rocky very close in (8m or less) where the bait is, and flat sand and featureless further out. So my advice would be to find some different ground on the fishfinder, and fish the slopes and gullies. You probably would do better with ragworm as Peter suggests. Good Luck Paul

Graham, I think the water should coalesce in time and form an oily layer at the bottom, with the clearer fuel at the top. But your pick up is going to be at the bottom of the tank, so dont just run the engine! Basically, water is insoluble in fuel, but sometimes the water droplets are dispersed very finely in the fuel, form a 'rag' or emulsion and cannot be separated easily, or passing through a hydrophobic/ water sep filter. Most boats have these filters fitted, but they are only for minor quantities of moisture. I dont know if its recoverable, or if you can skim the good fuel off the top, but it seems a bit doggy running it through your engine when you rely on it to get you home. I'd probably blend it off with the fuel in my wifes car, and not tell her!!!! Paul

We were out last friday, keepng well inshore as the Northerly winds were a tad extreme, and our "friend" the Red trawler was on station about a mile offshore in poole bay doing his thing. Just remember, we recreational chaps tend not to go out for weeks on end - he's there in rain or shine, 24/7... Rant over.... have a nice weekend.... might get out Sat ??

I always follow the manual, which says flush with the engine on tick over with the muffs, or use the flush connection with the engine stopped. The main problem with flushing using the hose connection is the thermostat doesnt get flushed so eventually cakes up with salt. But when you have an outboard and a swinging mooring, the only way I have so far is to use the bait tank and deckwash pump with fresh water and the hose connection. I've not had any problems with this arrangement for the last 3 years. Paul
