Shallow, busy in summer and quite expensive. Trailer needs unhooking and wading out usually. Plus sides - it is very close to the entrance, so no need to spend half and hour plodding up the harbour at 4 knots. We use muddiford in the winter when its free and Wick in the summer, which although it still gets as busy - if you launch early enough, put the trailer in the park and park the car around the corner it is free - plus its a steep slip so the boat just rolls off.

Well, After a few week break, due to hectic club schedules - it now seems to have quietend down a little - so its time for another club trail-away. Weymouth this time, and a choice of dates: Sunday 14th August or 21st I guess this will be dependant on tides? Can someone check and advise. The format will be as usual - Meet at the town quay slip at 7.00am. Fishing will be likely for the bass on the race - so we will need to source eels either here in Poole or down in Weymouth. It would be great to get a few of the newer members, Weymouth guys and the moored boats in Poole around to boost the numbers this time. Post here if you want in - more info to follow. Adam

Did my eyes mistaken me - or did I see Wedger - aka Trevor Wyatt on South Today tonight - taking about sterile fish?? FAMOUS!

What a difference a few days make.... Saturday, we fished the same state of tide (albeit a little bigger) and the mackerel were aplenty and the bass were crawling up the rods. Today - a complete reversal. As Bob said the mackerel were hard to find - I have never known them that bad - 2 hours without a single fish, and then when we did find them we only had a couple of full strings - then they went again. The bassing was also hard, but Bob came through with a splendid effort of 3 fish. I had to be content with just netting and skippering - I'm sticking with my line that I only took Bob out to catch fish!! Anyway - I suppose thats what keeps us coming back!

Took Rach out today for a drive and headed west as she has never been to West Bay, Bridport, Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Most inetresting day, but the real centre of attraction for me (and the secret reason behind the trip) was the new slipway at West Bay. Very nice - I must say. The new arm has changed the aspect of the slipway and harbour entrance from SW to ESE. It was a good SW 5-6 today, and yet only a gentle swell entered the harbour - fine for launching - just - but not too nice a day for being out at sea. It is a large (20-30' wide) solid, well constructed concrete slip about, on similar par to Weymouth, both in construction and in gradient. The wooden sleeprs that thay had first put there along the edges and that greated a 'whirpool' at the bottom, have been removed and replaced by small steel and timber bars to let the receding water escape. Definatly worth a trail-away on a decent forecast. All we need is a few numbers worth heading for - any ideas? Forgot the camera, so only managed to get piccies on the phone, but this site shows the work that has been done: http://www.stacey.peak-media.co.uk/WestBay...WestBay2004.htm And this picture gives a decent idea of the new slip:

Thanks Steve, very interesting.

Trev, Have a search around this site - plenty has been written about batteries already, and im 100% confident you will find your answer. If it were me I would go for a pair of 110 AH batteries wired through your switch - I think that would give you plenty. Adam

Best way to check nose weight - take a set of bathroom scales and sit the jockey wheel on them. I havent yet tried this as we dont have any scales in the house - but I roughly work on the premise that I can only just lift the front end of my trailer so that must put it about 75kg.

Plenty Kam - it doesnt dry out, are you thinking of the Shingles? Tues - tides are bad for an evening trip - if we go it will be an early one. Adam

Gordon and I decided to have another crack at the bassing over the Island this morning. After getting home at after midnight from the fireworks, getting up to go out again at 5.30am was hard work - well worth it though....a great morning to be up and about, slightly overcast, warm and still...it looked well fishy. Christchurch harbour was alive with wildlife - Herons catching eels on the mudflats, numerous birdlife and evry fish in the river dimpling and splashing the mirror calm surface. Out on the island, mackerel we hard to find, esp. joeys. After 1/2 hour we had enough to start with, and so began the first fish of the day - showing Gordon how to do it - I snared a nice 3lber first chuck! Then another 2nd drift!! Gordon then seemed to get the hang of it and hooked into a couple, which, alas came adrfit. He then proceeded to hook into a real beast of a fish, and after playing it for 5 mins I was convinced he had this one at last - but fate interviened and the hook pulled - gutted. The fishing continued well though the morning until Dawn Raider arrived and the tide began to slacken. Total tallly for the morning was 7 bass to me, best 5lb, all bar 3 returned. (Charlie, can you put these in the book?) Really loving this style of fishing at the moment - back out again Tues eve. Adam

By law - there needs to be a 10% variation in the hull design if you are to copy it (I think thats right - Shytalk?) So the hulls will look identical, but I think their will always be a slight differance.

Nah - I dont think it is big enough - Im out hunting for a double on Sat.

Well done matey - a cracking result yesterday, glad I showed you how its done last week - youve put it into practise - interesting that you used the Flourocarbon this time??

First I have heard - although I do know that they were aksing for the money for the materials up front when purchasing - not a goos sign, and the new Bass boat seems to have come to nothing??? I wouldnt be surprised - they always seem to have been in the shadow of the 165 IMO??

Mike, You can have the numbers for Xray if you like - but youll need the garmin as it is only a small mark. Same for Southbourne rough - we fished here on Sunday and it was like fishing an aquarium! IF you want tope - go west, but tides are a bit big this weekend. Youll need to go a little further than Durlston, head 2/3 miles off the Anvil. PM me if you want numbers. Adam

Generally, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Search this site as we have covered this subject in depth before - use the 'Search' button at the top of the page. Personel preferance is everything - I like long tippy rods with plenty of backbone, others like a through action - some dont care! Go to a shop and buy or feel and then go online - Poingdestres in Shirley has a massive selection. I use Abu Conolons, Diawa TDX's are popluar but both quite dear. The Fladen Solid C rods have been very popluar with our members this year and dont break the bank. As Bob said the Ugly Sticks has stood the test of time. Adam

Personel prefernace would be the Garmin 182C. Has all of what you ask for. You can pick then up for about

Kam, Dover Sole - Lemons are extremely rare this far East, further down towards Cornwall they get them more regular. You will need an smooth sandy bottom for Sole - not rough ground, as they are a flatfish and invaribly bury themselves in the sand. The mark we fish is about 10-15' deep, a ssandy bottom with ridges in it caused I think by the tide. Sole feed much better at night. A spinning rod, size 8-10 hooks and ragworm or lug is what is required. We fish anchored as the sole often needs a few minutes to get the bait down his mouth. Adam

Dont think Ill be able to make it Jimbo - work commitments and all that. Plus there is a comittee meeting tonight which would have taken top priority. Have a good night. Adam

I only use it for Bassing, the rest of the time normal mono suffices as trace line, and my leaders are just cheap 2.99 clear 30lb mono. It was 17lb Berkeley Vanish which I was using - great line, fantastic knot strength and reasonable too.

A new british record then???
