Right, they are here! Sorry I didnt post them last night, it has been a long weekend with a long week ahead.... Firstly - many thanks to all 34 of you who entered the comp, a fantastic turnout. It is entries like this that make these events. I will pen a brief report this morning with full details, but a few stats you may like to hear. We had 34 entries, 21 weighed fish in, we had 11 different species, we had 10 entries over 100% specimen. It certianly was a close one this year - with 3 joint places and others all very close. Previous years anything over 100% would have been enough, but not this weekend, 112% was needed to frame. RESULTS: 1st = Peter Russell Snr Black Bream 4lb 114.29% 1st = Charlie Chapman Undulate Ray 16lb 114.29% 3rd = Tony Deavin Black Bream 3lb 15oz 112.5% 3rd = James Parker Conger Eel 45lb 112.5% Click on the link below to view the complete listing. Once again, thanks to all who entered and here's to next years event, when hopefully we will book the Mariner for the prize giving once again. Tight Lines Adam

Well, we did it! - After 2 years of talking about it, we finally made the plunge and at 7am this morning we headed South to the Rips. The forecast was good, and after being out Friday night I expected a mirror calm sea...but on leaving the harbour a nasty SE swell greated us. Once we had depth this calmed down, but made us stick to 14 knots on the way out. We made the mark in 1hr 30mins. Fishing was hard work - Bob had a take 1st cast but lost it. We fished shads, live mackerel and twin tails. After 2 hours just 2 lost fish. A move to another mark also failed to produce. We then headed to a wreck - 1st drift, bang, I got a pollock, 2nd drift - bingo! Cod!!! This is how it continued for the rest of the tide, but alas the cod failed to show. The return ebb tide was very poor, so we decided to call it a day and head in. 19-20 knots all the way home made it 1hr 15mins....funnilly, it was rougher around peveril with the ebb race than it was mid channel... Final tally - 12 pollock, best 9lb 8oz, 1 cod - 8lb 6oz. Not a great fishing day, but very satisfying - horizons broadened! Adam

Will, As a guide - take a look at the clubs recommended safety list on the main site. Also recommended is an RNLI safety check when the boat is fully kitted, this is a free service and will advise you on how well equipted your boat is for its intended purpose. Ebay is a good source of boating kit at bargin prices www.nautequipe.co.uk is also a good online store www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk ditto above As well as that try the 'Wanted' section on the clubs site, its surprising what most of use have kicking around! Currently I only have 14 names booked in for the 48hr comp. Most of these were from the meeting last night. If you are fishing please let me know, failure to book in before fishing will exclude you from entry. email - adam@adamfranklin.freeserve.co.uk Personal Message (PM) from this board Mobile - 07957 829902 Text - As above Home - 01202 823712 (eve only)

Looks like we are heading to the Rips on Sat now. The forecast is slightly better. Leaving Poole at 6am, heading out in a sort of convoy. Adam
-
Tony, You dont have to fish thw whole 48hrs! The idea is that you have a 48hr period in which to fish/enter, and if you catch a decent fish (10lb bass!!) you can enter it. It is
-
Why not! Lets take advantage of mdern technology! Email, Text or Phone is all acceptable - as long as you book in and have your catches to me by 6pm on Sunday. Adam
-
Martin, Ill chat to you tonight - but I am happy to crew for you Sunday. Duncan is not planning to head to the Rips Sunday, so we wont have any big boats to accompany us, so maybe we will give this a miss, also the give more wind on Sunday that Sat. Adam

As if you all need reminding...it is the clubs annual 48hr Specimen Comp this weekend. As I have already posted, the format of the prize giving at the Mariner on the Sunday eve, will not happen this year, so the format will revert back to previous years. The rules are on the club comp sheet, but just to re-illiterate: # - ALL members wishing to fish, MUST book in prior to the comp with either me - 07957 829902 / 01202 823712 or Bob Fuller 07802 879073. Failure to do this will make you inelligable to enter the comp. # - Entry is still

1 sandeel, 1 shad for me please.

OR, Just order a set of purpose made holders from me!! http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/index.php?sh...&hl=rod+holders I made a set for Maverick also. Look much neater than pipe clip holders and do a great job, also dont limit the size of the equiptment you store. This was one of the 1st mods I made. Adam

Just been having a look at Roger's site - looks like he has been doing rather well on the Rips area lately, take a look! http://www.seafishinginfo.co.uk/ Under the catch reports section. Windguru is still giving light winds!....
-
Coddy, I would really like a shark sling - do you have one for sale, or just to look at? The last tope I had (35lb) ate my sling and spat it out! I have weighed carp to 57lb in it, but it made mince meat of it!!!
-
John, The tide times are tricky round to the west - I look at Mupe Bay or Kimmeridge as this gives you something handy. The further you go out generally the later the tide. See here for an accurate predition: http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyT...SelectPort.aspx Dont forget to add BST!!

KK, I have the MK11 Warrior, which takes 2 x 25l tanks. I believe that you can also get a large single tanks, but I thought this would be to heavy to move when full. It also gives me the flexibilty of a seperate tank. If you have the MK2 you will be the same, havent seen the MK1. Either this or you have need to get different tanks - mine are Quicksilver Marine jobbies. Adam

Duncan - the rail is just a length of 316 SS with 90 deg bends at each end - the smart bit is the CNC machined solid billet polished sockets that it locates into. Mine is about 1500mm long, if you went longer you would need a central support/bar. The rod holders are just the normal adjustable types available from Nautiquipe or the various jumbles - I paid 8 squid each for 4. My deck wash only uses a 500 GPH Rule Bilge pump, simple set up and cheap to replace when it breaks -
-
#3 - Finally, I have just modified my livebait well that was added last year. The pump is now a perminent feature on the transom, siliconed and screwed and mounted on a purpose made mount. It is live wired to a switch on the dash, and has a perminent through hull fitting at the transom. I have fitted a 2 way valve, and carry 6' of hose with a Hozlelock spray nozzle attached. Now I have the option of running the live well, or at the flick of a switch turning on the deck wash. The excess water then runs into the sump where bilge pump no.2 pumps it out through the hull fitting. Picture shows live bait tank and deck wash in-situe.
-
# 2 - The latest mod - a shiney new removable transom rail from Stainless Peter. Collected yesterday and fitted this evening. Now when travelling rods dont have to lie on the deck and get bashed around, they can be stored vertically out of the way. It carries 4, plus the 2 factory holders at the rear. It is on sockets also, so I can remove it when, either out not fishing just playing/cruising and also to get the tonneau cover on. Warrior charge about

Just thought I would post these for those who are interested in boat mods, and also a a future link - someone is bound to ask about these in the future....PBSBAC, a veritable nautical libary! #1 - New Treadmaster decking installed. The 165's come with a glassfibre deck. Its ok, but can be slippy, boxes etc also slide around and it can be tricky to clean off dried dirt. 6 sheets of this evo-stuck down and trimmed into place. Ive had it installed for about a month now and well impressed. Its more comfortable, very grippy, and above all looks much better!

Valid points Duncan. I had reckoned on Sunday as: Will give me a gap between Fri eve and Sun to earn brownies (and not be 'fishing ALL weekend' as it was just put to me!) Martin also cannot do an early start Sat, but can Sunday - and just spoke to Mark, who is considering leaving Weymouth on Sat eve, and heading early to the Rips on Sun am. Would be nice to have a big boat along for company....
-
Kam, Im also with Porthcawl. I phoned them last year re this and they aksed I put it in writing. I stated that very occasionally I would be venturing outside coastal waters and also night use. 25 miles seems a long way to me, but as Charlie says a day round west can see me clocking 50 miles, so it aint a lot more.

Duncan, Having considered it, I am seriously considering the Rips on Sunday, the flood will be an hour later also... Can we make a convoy? I know Loyal Royal wants to go, Maverick and yourself so that is 4 boats for safety, the long range (dangerous as it may be to look!) is looking good with light winds forecast with sun. I will probably fish Fri eve with Rach, earn brownie points on Sat and then begin at the crack of dawn on Sunday, leaving Poole at say 6am. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of knowledge of going 23 miles offshore with no numbers, tactics or back up marks etc.... What do others think?
