  1. So is the 48hr comp now a species comp? Looks that way from the post above?
  2. Looking crap again now anyway. I think that's me done trying for Alderney this year.
  3. Steve must have been dancing / chanting overnight - now looking ideal! Lets hope it holds.... So Charlie are you saying you are coming or not?
  4. Looks bloody terrible :-( I know we have a week to go but it isn't looking too good.... To be honest I'm loosing the momentum a but now this later in the summer for Alderney, not sure if I can summon the effort for a take 5. Might just look at Cherbourg for an over night and forget the islands until 2015. Steve - clearly you've not been chanting / dancing?
  5. Picked up all the fibreglass kit yesterday from a mate who works for a company who build Super Yacht tenders... All a bit posh for a fishing boat! Will have the mould finished this weekend. Once I had got the template perfect, next job was to create the sides. I'm using MDF for this one, not the best material but it's cheap and easy and this is a one use only mould. It has a reasonable finish but will need a bit of polishing when it comes out to get it perfect. Base is made from 18mm to give rigidity, the sides have a curved form and have been made from 6mm, and I steamed the corners to get the curve. Always need to bear in mind that when making a mould you are working up side down, back to front, so measure twice cut once is the rule to avoid mistakes. Once the mould is done, the corners need to be filleted to give a smooth curve. I've used flexible filler for this applied with a gun and then use a 1/4 filleting tool (ball on a stick) to give a regular finish. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  6. Just in case you don't have a subscription to World Sea Fishing & Agriculture.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Didn't know we had a blog section! I'm picking up the rest of the materials tomorrow so I'll try and do a bit of detailed info on making and prepping a mould and laying it up.
  8. It's also easier as I need to use tapatalk as all my pics are in the iPhone.
  9. Inspiration for the platform design from this one: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. I'll cover off as much as I can rob, but no problem in showing the mould build, prep and glasing I'm no expert but I'm getting better! Martin - I did the one on JV like that but Ive so much space on the new boat all I really need is a small plinth - plus Ive seen one of Breaksea's boats with this small one that looks ace.
  11. First job is a dive platform. JV has very high gunnels so for boarding and alighting from a tender this will be a big help, plus getting onboard from the water. I'm planning a small one with a ladder that will support it too. Pic below shows the basic template that will be used to build a mould from. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  12. The plan is to use JV as she is for a few months and get to know the boat before a major re-fit over the winter. The boat and engine are sound but the build is very 'garden shed' so a full internal re-fit from scratch, and a full re-wire, complete new electronics system and pretty much a whole new stainless package - so not far off a full build. My plan is to use this thread to track progress for anyone who is interested!
  13. Really feel for you on this Mark - I'm busy tomorrow with the family or I'd have offered myself. We have a good pool of members so hopefully when they get home this evening we might get a response.
  14. Many of you will be aware of the planned cross channel kayak mission for Hero's on the Water that Mark from Alderney Angling and other have been planning for a while now. The first attempt was thwarted by the weather, but this weekend the tides are small and the weather is good so they are planning to leave Sat morning - the emergancy request is due to one of the saftey boats pulling out. They have one boat but as it's only single engined they want another as support, given the mountainous task in hand. Mark has just called me and issued a plea. Can any of the members / club boats assist? This is basically a very slow cross channel cruise standing by the kayak's and other saftey boat - all costs will be covered by the team. Failing that - I know many of us will be out over the weekend, could we put together a list of boats planning to fish across the channel that could support if needed? Post here or call me on 07850 278111 if you can help. Many thanks

    Rod rebuild

Do we have any rod rebuilders in the club? Ive got a pair of Shimano spinning rods that I use for bassing and one has a missing butt eye and a damaged tip ring - I dont want a tackle shop or DIY bodge, I want a proper single leg matching guide professionally whipped and epoxy varnished. Any ideas?
  17. Garmin 10" 2010c Works perfectly. Will need a chart, just need to keep an eye on eBay, one went for £30 last week.
  18. Great idea. Gets my vote
  19. I'd like to fish but the club BBQ right in the middle of the comp will hinder and serious plans. Will play by ear, if I go it will be Sun only. Not fussed what you decide prize wise. However if the club has spare funds, why not do 1st 2nd and 3rd and subsidise the extra on top of the £5 entry? The rod and reel combo would be good rather than money or vouchers...
  20. Just a slow cruise back then?
  21. Just heard from Al, they loaded up on the wrecks today, plenty of cod and pollack, with Dave making the most of Reel Magic's new speed to bag an extra few drifts and an extra few fish. I couldnt have gone anyway - but I dont mind admitting I was a touch jealous today whilst int he garden with the kids in the fantastic weather! Well done lads, look forward to the full report and more importantly - getting over myself in July!
  22. They have done well today. After a lumpy crossing and a poor day yesterday due to the wind, they have made the most of the better forecast today and whilst they haven't had the numbers or previous years, they have had a fair few doubles today, best, I think, to Dave circa 18lb. The wrecks look to be fishing well, so I expect they will have a bumper day tomorrow too. Fair play lads, it wasn't the call I would have made on Thurs, but it's paid off.
  23. Good luck to the boys who are going tomorrow, keep us posted!
