  1. Hi Wedger!, Such a broad question!...I have also considered my next move (as you are/have done..) and to be honest dont really know. On the 'smart' cruiser/angling boat front you have the inboard diesel Arvor, Quicksilver, Jeaneau Merry Fisher, Small Rodmans, Antares, etc, etc... If you want to go more workman like then: Pirate MI21, Hellraiser HR223, Aquafish 23, Duver, etc, etc... It really is a mine field and knowing your exact requirements would help. Personally if I wanted a cruiser (and the missues to use it as well for the odd trip away) then Id go for an Arvor 23/25 as others have mentioned. Secondhand the 23's go for about 23-26k bottom end with a decent sized TDI inboard..If it was soley up to me then Id be looking at the Pirate MI21 with a 240 Volvo Turbo inboard - 40 knots plus with 35 knots cruise all for about
  2. AHH! Thats where I may have gone wrong...was using 'Fritchy' as your boat name, not Arctic Turn! AF
  3. OK, Guys thanks for the tips. I have decided to go for a proper marine jobbie. 1 last question though.... What is a Pantograph wiper and how does it differ from a 'normal' one? I am guessing it is one of the type that have a 'side to side; movement rather than a pendulem action?....if so this would suit the tiny window on BW....any ideas? Adam

    Wiring Looms

After chatting to Martin last week I am considering giving Stuart Webb the marine electrician who sponsors our site a call... The standard wiring that Warrior supply is messy to say the least and while I have tidyed it up outside the console inside it looks like a ball of spagetti!! I view this as a possible safety issue as electrical problems can be easily fixed when you can trace the cause....I have no chance at the moment. So, I'd like to have a nice neat loom with all proper connections and maybe a trip switch bar like Maverick now has. I will call Stuart for a quote - but it got me thinking how hard it would be to do DIY?? With the time over the next few months due to the poor fishing I could give it a go. Is it a tricky job? Are there any tips to wiring a loom and switchboard, or am I best leaving it to the pros? Adam
  5. Mike, Tried to give you a call on Sat whilst out on the Spoils, about 1pm??.... We also had a poor day, but was nice to be out anyway. Adam
  6. Maybe it was a real old shark.....gummy, no teeth and half blind!!
  7. Splash Out and Blue Warrior headed out from Poole at 7.30am this morning. The plan was to head offshore a little until the wind pushed us back in. Saw Overdraft and Shelia Marie on the way out. Phaeton joined us about 10am. At 9.00am we were fishing about 6 miles SE of Old Harry in 120' Fishing was slow to start, and we missed the last of the flood dispite rushing out. The begining of the ebb saw a few bites and soon a steady flow of whiting and pout came over the side. This was interspersed by a small strap conger and a nice 8lb Smoothound. At the next slack we came back into the Spoils with the rest of the boats. Very slow for around 3 hours, then like a light switch as soon as the flood started be began to catch a decent whiting every drop. Unfortunatly this also co-insided with the forecast wind picking up and the light fading at about 4.20pm so we called it a day and headed back in. Not a fantastic day, but nice to be out and a few fish to boot. Was that one of the last trips before the spring species arrive? AF

  14. Cheers Peter - Good website, although I dont seem to be able to browse products online...do I need a catalouge?
  15. Will there be a Great White II then?? What is it going to be I wonder???....Lochin perhaps?
  16. I echo all of the above comments. On a very rare occasion (ie the big cod where we had soooo much meat) do I share, but only to immediate family. Even in the last 3 years my outlook has changed. In the early days of MK1 Tara, the fish box would often be full with whatever we caught, nowadays the fish box gets used as a storage box more often than not, as it is rarely used. Cod when the come, a few whiting each year, biggish place, mackeral and bass are all I really take - but in small numbers and not often. I get much more satifaction from seeing a fish swimming away than I do seeing it sitting on my plate. Adam
  17. Not too sure about wrecking, I think further out may be a tad lumpy for us smaller boats. We are going to launch from Poole at 7.30, and head out to the Spoils or maybe the banks off Anvil for some blondes and cod. I have found the flood to be a better tide, with the ebb not really producing the goods. See you down there! AF
  18. I have 1 space left for the trip this year. I need to fill this ASAP, so if you fancy it let me know. Cheers Adam
  19. Looks like a weather window is opening on Saturday... NW winds, F2 all day. Im going to take BW out...anyone else fancy it? either from Xchurch over to the island - or Poole out for Blondes? Fingers crossed the weather holds. Adam
  20. I have a 6000 syncro - must admit though I have never used the syncro drag, I use the reel off the beach. Good feature though....
  21. I have decided to fit a single wiper to BW. I know that it will shorten the life of the perspex, but I can live with that for having a clear window. I am planning to use auto parts - am I correct in doing this? I can source the motor and arm from a Corsa for about

    Trim tabs?

OK - Thanks for the info - must admit, I thought the advice woas gunna be to leave them alone on a small boat!! Ill get hunting around the web then! From what I have seen, the automatic ones cant be adjusted when under way, they just balance the weight out automatically so not to sure how good they would be - these are the cheapest option I think. Hyrdaulic seem the best but are expensive, so electric seem a good bet. AF

    Trim tabs?

I dont know much about these, hence my reason for posting - I just wanted a bit of info. I was considering some for BW, as she is very sensitive to weight distribution and lists to one side with 3 on board unless the crew are strategically positioned. Would trim tabs cure this? Are they suitable for a boat of my size? What to choose - Auto, Manual, electric or hydraulic? Are they easy to fit? Thanks in advance for your info. Af
