The forecast for Tues is 3-5 SSW, so it will be OK, but not too wonderful. If you want to have a little fish, we can bring our gear, Id suggest some inshore drifting though, so light gear and ragworms. Mainly we should test out the boat though, try the anchor, run the engine etc, etc.. See you down at Cobbs for 8.30 - 9.00am?

After our little 'experiance' on Sunday, BW now is looking battered and bruised. numerous surface scratches are evident - but I plan to wet and dry these out and then re-polish the gel coat? Is the the correct method? The more seveare ones ate under the waterline where she hit the rocks, I have a couple which have breached the gelcoat and I can see fibreglass, although I dont think the holes are right through. How do I repair these?

Hindsight...what a wonderful thing! Talking to Bob afterwards we should have done the following: Stopped outside the bay in the rough, but not breaking waves to discuss our plan of action. ALL donned lifejackets, a massive mistake made by all. Set out our game plan to give each other plenty of space, and how to approach the slip. Also had a contingency plan if it got too bad to abort, and make a slow, but safe passage to Weymouth, the trailers could then be collected later. It has certianly made me think twice - the sheer force of the sea is uncomprehensable.

Im sure the details will be discussed in great depth over the coming few days, but the trip for Blue Warrior and Splash-Out will be remembered for ever in the minds of the skippers and crew. We launched from Kimmeridge (maiden slip for both boats) at 7.00am on Sunday morning - we forecast was was 2-3 W, building 3-4 W, dropping 2-3 W all day. James was keen to target the bass after catching some small joeys, so we headed just off Chapman's Pool to troll live macky for a while....James and I had a bass apicece of 4lb and 5lb respectively. We then got down to the job in hand and headed west to the Lulworth Banks in search of Ray. BW tried Adament Shoal, 10 Fathom Bank and Lulworth for a couple of huss (best 10lb to James) and hoards of doggies and pout. SO stayed put and PJ had a 13lb Huss (nice fish!) as well as dogs! At 3pm, we decided to knock the ray fishing on the head and head back to Kimmeridge for the bass - on arriving, the wind had grown legs to a F5 - but it wasnt too bad, so we had a few trolls - James took a 5lb bass. We then realised the swell had grown, the wind had swung SW and numerous 20 - 30' rollers were breaking over the inshore reefs - so we headed home...... On arriving at Kimmeridge bay, it looked as though surfing the rollers home was the only way in, so we took a deep breath and went for it. We waited until the 1st 'set' of rollers had passed, then full throttle for the slip....... 20 yards from the slip I realised the rollers had caught us up, so I banged the wheel hard left and full throttle, bow into the rollers - BW took 6/7 20' rollers like this before they subsided - the boat was heavy with water and the bilge working overtime.....then I took my chance between sets and headed flat out for the slip - james and I jumped out and held BW against the heavy swell.... 'SO' however had not faired so well, she had taken a MASSIVE swell broadside and James and I looked upon in sickening awe as we saw the Alaska 500 roll 80 degs. sideways - how she didnt roll I will never know - she then managed to get to the slip - but things now got worse.... The heavy swell picked BW up and smashed her onto the rocks taking chuncks from the hull each time - my new engine also took a hammering....meanwhile SO was picked up by a huge swell and depositied some 15' up the slip on the concrete, leaning sideways. We were all panicking.....2 ribs arrived all in the 'same boat' and working as a team, we winched SO across the concrete (ouch!!) ripping the hell out of the keel in the process and snapping the winch strap. It took a big wave and 5 people to free BW, she has several chuncks from her underside - she then went on the trailer OK. Many shaking hands, trembling lips, thank you's to those who helped, benefit of hindsight....the list goes on, but one things for sure - it will be a day that will stay in our minds forever!!!... Oh!...and I AM NEVER LAUNCHING FROM BL&%$DY KIMMERIDGE AGAIN!!
-
Ill start a new link for the story of what happened today.......

Paul - See your PM!!! Ive been up since 4.30am!!...couldnt sleep!! 20 mins on the forum, then off fishing!!!....I fink I must be mad!!

I found this on Deepsea.co.uk...yes it is ANOTHER weather site, but a pretty good one I think - have a look! http://www.weatherweb.net/uksail.htm You cant have enough weather sites when the weather is rubbish, sooner or later you will find a site with a 'good' outlook - enough to pursude you that all the others are wrong, and you REALLY should take the boat out!!!
-
Blue Warrior and Splash Out with Jumbo sorry..Jimbo and Paul J as crew will be launching from Kimmeridge at 7am on Sunday AM - we are planning a little expedition out to the Lulworth, Kidney, Adament, 10 Fathom type banks in search of ray's - anyone else is also welcome!

I would have to disagree Rich - ALL of the squid I have bought in the past few years has been human food grade. It states this on the side of the boxes. It obviously isnt as good as the fresh stuff bought from the fish counter, but once it has been washed and de-skinned, it is pretty good - infact last year I ate about half a box!!
-
Happy to come back in Paul if you get a call out??
-
That is really what the squid is for Kam - CODDING!! 1lb boxes aint' worth bothering with, as they are cheap enough from the tackle shop, but considering we get through about 2/3 5lb boxes of squid per trip in the winter it is worth bulk buying! # Good Tip (esp. for Kam!) Saving the small plastic chinese food containers with the lids. Thaw out a box of 5lb squid enough to seperate the squids - box them up into the food containers and re-freeze. That way if you do go fishing for whiting or what just a few squid, you dont have to take a whole box!
-
Anyone fancy a trip out Friday? Forecast is for dropping winds, so was thinking of going out off Christchurch for a few hours??
-
I thought Mad Mike was joining us as well?? It is no problem Kam, I will leave BW at home and help you out. What time are you thinking of meeting at Cobbs?
-
Martin, Ill have 4 boxes. may be worth speaking to James - his mate works at MJ Fishfoods, last year they were the cheapest we could find. Kam, the 5lb boxes are usualy between
-
Alan, We will find crew for you no probs - as Martin says, Rich will need a boat - he is fishing the YYS this week, so will come back a pro! Marks are no problem - Im happy to share a few! Adam

May be worth speaking to them and see how they have gone about it. The article did say that the chairman had devoted much of his life to getting this - that is a MASSIVE step - we as a comitte have a hard enough task with what we currently do. Also - we need to consider whether we actually want this type of facilities - would we actually get enough use from it, and would it prove cost effective? My first thoughts are that it wouldnt. I am more than happy with the club at present and think the chairman and other long standing comittee members have done a stirling job. We are a club made from a huge mixture of boats, abilities, needs, wants and requirements - sure the Portsmouth Club house looks the dogs nutts, but doesnt mean it would suit us. Mini Rant over!.....
-
OK - I will launch probably from baiter as it is only
-
Kam, If you go for a launch in either the solent (sheltered from the wind) or more preferably Poole - you can play and test the boat to your hearts content. If it is really snotty, we could stay in the harbour, or if just iffy, the headland protects a little of the bay in a W / SSW, so we could even sneak out for a little fishing. I went out on Friday from Christchurch in a S Force 6! - Sure it was snotty out their, but ok for testing the boat - anf fun in the waves!!!
-
Yeah, read about them in this months SA - and was considering getting a few for the end of season bass?...
