Thanks for all your support guys! I have taken the plunge - and phoned Tony at Select Marine yesterday to order my new lump. She will be a 60hp 4 stoke EFI. She is arriving on Mon afternoon, BW goes in for surgery on Tues morning, and she should be ready to collect Tues PM!! I had a phone around yesterday, and most places were similar price wise. The place in Brighton were the same as Select, Richard at HBM was the cheapest at

Cheers Les - Ok, should we look at doing another trip in the next few weeks? Im up for it??
-
Duncan, Thanks for the sample, I have sent you a PM with my address - very kind of you! I am going to the show, so I will see Paul at Warrior and have a barter with him. I will also get the 'show special package' leaflets that they usually put together - that way you can read the spec and prices. No problem mate. Cheers Adam

Nope - thanx for the offer though!. As it is an indespension trailer it fits across the beam - 6'

Cheers Kam - is it a 6' board??

Cheers Chaps! I have come to terms with it a little now. The engine is in bits all over Select Marine. Tony, kindly didnt charge me for the 4 hours he spent on it yesterday - I think he could see I was a bit gutted. If I sell it, it will be in bits, not as a whole engine. I will still recover it though - might get a few hundred for it?? The engine has had a hard life. It was secondhand when the chap before me put it on BW (he bought the boat new, but couldnt afford a new engine) and we rekon it has done thousands of hours from the state of it inside. Once we got past the cowlings - numerous spot welds we evident, liquid gaskets everywhere instead of proper ones etc.... we rekon it could have been an old commercial unit - 'made good'. I dont want to run the risk of repair, spend 1/2K and still have a potentially un-reliable 7 yr old re-con engine. Second hand is a poss. Although with the experiances I have had with this ones, I'm not too sure I want to invite problems again. Also the old engine was not too bad. Fairly modern, quiet, economical 4 stroke - if I bought 2nd hand it would have to be an equivelant. Gunna phone round today - but I think the answer will be a new engine (ouch) Mariner 60hp 4 stroke - Tony has quoted

Duncan, Glad you managed to find a possible 165!. Read my experinaces here : http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/index.php?sh...st=0entry7282 of second hand engines! - Dont want to put you off at all, just be careful - at the end of the day a new package is out of the question, so you pays your money you takes your chance. Re. Polycarb windows: This is a bit of a problem on most of the smaller Warriors, they basically deteriorate over time - I now am looking to replace mine. You say you can get this stuff from work - please enlighten me?????

What about the 12oz Red Mullet I caught last Oct??

Bad news chaps..... BW is dead. Took her over to Tony this morning. Phoned him again at 5, and all was not well. It seems the fuel pump has been going for the past few months and leaking petrol into the cylinders. Oil has also been leaking here also, causing it to run without much oil to lubricate. The result was one of the cranks 'going' and shafting the entire powerhead. : I am sick, gutted, upset, p&^ssed off etc, etc....... A new powerhead will be 2K, plus a new case, fuel pump and other bits and labour - total re-build = approx

Well, things must be desperate - it seems Tara is up for sale! http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F44965/ Mind you he has done a good job of cleaning her up, she looks immaculate! See here for comparison! http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/memberboat.php?id=4

Paul, I intend to try and write a report at least for each trail-away, and dont mind offering to do the ones for the comps. Should build up a nice little archive of reports and piccies that way.

Hi Duncan, Hi 4 peneth worth..... The Trooper: I looked at this boat 2 years ago, when Crayside had it the 2nd time around (this is the 3rd in as many years!) and it gets a bit tattier each time! When I looked I was very green around the gills, and to me it looked the mutts nutts. However now on reflection I'm glad I didint get it. The engine is THE main consideration on any secondhand package - and the crappy 50hp Force is a pile. All of the comments above are correct, so as you said, take heed! The actual boats themselves are not too bad. For a 15 footer, they are massive as the cuddy is so close to the bow. As Coddy said - the catherdral hulls are renowned for slamming, noise at anchor and poor abilty in rough seas....in flat seas they are almost unbeatable, but how often do we fish in perfect conditions? Cant really comment on the Jeep. From what i do know, they are not too dissimailar to the Trooper. From someone who has owned 2 seconfhand packages and done the groundwork this is what I reccomend. ( Please ignore me if teaching to suck eggs!) Go out on as many boats as possible. Are you local? We have all sorts in the club and all the guys will only be too willing to give you a ride. You cant tell unless you get out to sea and drive the things. Each boat has it's own characteristics and each individual has their own requirements, what suits me may not suit you. I went for a Warrior. The hull design is perfect what what I need it for. It planes well when calm, but copes with crappy conditions as well as boats 5' bigger. Dave Steele at Ainsdale boat Centre is a chap worth speaking to. Decide what you want, and roughly what spec / price. Give him a call and he'll usually source you soemthing pretty damn near...just ask Coddy! Hope this helps! Anymore info - just ask!

Youve lost me??....Charter specials go for at least

Cheers Mike. You can put your little yellow thingy away! Ill swap you 2 tubes of 785 if you fix it, need to use it 2moro, as BW is going to the doctors, but when she gets back I pop round. Cheers

Cheers Mike. I tried Towsure earlier on, they didnt have any. And I got flashed by a bloody camera coming out of Soton! I have actually taken the bits off the broken uint and fixed them to a new piece of plastic - cant get the wiring to work though...you wanna have a look?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEWA:IT Not too dear at the moment....considering bidding on it myself, but at the moment cant find a reason that I need another reel! Thought one of you may be interested!!

Paul, Nice one for the report on the main page. Is there not a way we can have them on seperate lniks - like we do for the species articles? I just feel that the way they are at the moment - many users may miss the article, as unless you scroll down you can miss it. A link at the top of the page to 'reports' would be good - we could also add piccies then, which always look great. If you dont have the time, maybe you could show me? Im quite happy to do it, if I knew how. Adam

Where can I get a new one? I have tried a few places and they only do them up to 4' with piddly little cables, I need a 6' and at least 7m of cable????
