Try 800kg of sand which was wet so best part of a ton!!! The sea trial after offloading saw her nearly 3 knots quicker! The steering was a bit hit and miss until I looked at it today... And managed to get a litre of hydraulic fluid in the system! Much better pushing that around than air!

Thanks guys, feels like the right move. Sad to see jv1 go after I built her but this one is a good upgrade, she feels huge to me but you soon get used to that. Spent the day on her today getting kit sorted and really pleased with her.

Well after a whirlwind couple of weeks, I found myself in the pouring rain this morning waiting for a rather special delivery to arrive.... Rewind 2 weeks and JV wasn't even for sale! A chance email from Ian who had spotted a guy who had the big brother to JV and wanted to downsize got us thinking, as a larger boat has been discussed between us over the years. Anyway, cue a couple of rush trips to Brixham a visit from him to Poole, a couple of sea trials and some frantic email price negotiation, a deal was struck to exchange boats. This is Ian and myself's new boat.... To remain - Joint Venture. She is an Aquafish 28, with a Volvo Penta D4 260hp though a Duo Prop leg. Overall she is a cracking boat, and a real monster for 28'. She dwarfed little JV1 this morning. She wants some loving in the wheelhouse, but that will be a winter project to look forward to, and a chance to make her ours, with some big plans for a refit and a fancy new electronics package. Yes, a full coil - 220m, but for the new boat I'll use 12mm, I had 10mm on JV which was fine. I'd suggest looking at 10 or 12mm to save space.

Yes, it was your and Duncan's trip there a few years ago that reminded me. Whilst I really like the quirk of Alderney and he slightly closer nature, why not one year for a change, and also if the forecast is so go it's silly not to go, it would be the best option. We would need to find flexible accommodation though in case we did need to cancel. What's the fuel prices like in Guernsey?

Contacted them today. Seemed expensive to me, £100 for 3 boat names, £175 if I wanted them fitted? I'm sure I paid not more than £30 for all the ones on JV?

So here's an idea if we are struggling for accommodation on the reserve date and the weather looks too good to miss.... How about go go into Guernsey as our base? From the Schole Bank the run back is about the same?

Looks like we are struggling. JV crew can make the 2nd date, but I'm struggling on the Fri so we would have to leave later with Alfresco or I would have to jump on with Alfresco if the other two go early. But then we don't have accommodation and the new boat isn't really set up to sleep more than 1. Rach is away the weekend if the 6-9th so I'm at home with the kids. Ian is pretty much away most of June with only the odd day free, although I could make the 13-16th but I'd imagine big tides, then the next option is the smaller tides on 20-23rd?

Looks wise - I'd be amazed if we went. Suits me done to the ground for once anyway! The new date is tricky for me but do-able, so I'll cancel this weekend as see what I can sort out for 2 weeks time.

Do we have either anywhere in the club? I'll be needing a decent amount of 12mm for a new warp, and a new set of graphics making up. I have contacts Ive used in the past, but just wondered if we had anyone in the club?

Agree - it looks bad even this far out. If teams cant make the next date 2 weeks forward - why rush - we also have a couple of new boats still not delivered. Two of the best trips Ive done have been in June, and the temp is usually hotter too. The bass, tope and cod on the wrecks are also in. Why dont we look at a date early June? I wouldnt bother meeting Mon eve with the current forecast.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to pull JV out of this year's trip, a shame as so near the off date,but needs must.....

Just do an 'Ian' and have a house and boat over there for the 6 winter months of the year - simple!

I cant make tonight - but I dont think we have done bad waiting until 7 days before the off - before looking at weather sites! Maybe we are just all a bit wiser after going over for several years! I wont really start to take much notice until Sunday when we can see the forecast through until Monday.
