  1. I think I speak for lots of members that this is one of the better attended comps of the year. The weather was the no1 factor for us as it's been looking shocking all week. I have no issues with the £5, other than it seems to be a PITA to collect from everyone and I think we have scrapped it for the past few years.
  2. Erm.... can I assume that due to the forcast and the lack of entries this comp will be re-scheduled? Or shall I enter alone and win my £5 entry back! Lol!
  3. Maybe but they do have a plan of action around that? I do smile when I see 'no wind turbines here' and 'no to the Severn barrage'.... In the next breath the same people moan about gas fuel prices! I'm not aiming that at anyone on here, it's just a generic comment. Where do people think the next generation of energy will come from?!
  4. Did this go ahead? Anyone manage to get there?
  5. Looking windy... :-(

    COOL BOX

http://www.coolboxesuk.com/range/ I think mine is the 70l version. It's about right for what we do, one the odd occasion we fill it, but then I carry a fish box under the deck if we run out of space. Most of the time it is ample.
  7. If you do and want company, give me a shout. Happy to drive.
  8. Anyone interested in going to this? http://www.seawork.com/home It's free to go, it's not like Southmampton or London, as its aimed at the commercial sector, but there is always fishing related stuff, plus electronics etc.
  9. I had a carbon copy of your day. I only had a few hours as I had to get back to work, but I was out on ballard by 10am, alongside 2 ways - the tide was already falling away and apart from plenty of fat mackeral, it was dead. A move to the patch produced only pout and judging by the lack of action of the boats around me, it was quiet everywhere. Dissapointing.
  10. I'd also add to Steve's advice. When lowering your anchor, dont simply bumg the whole lot over the side - lower it down slowish until you get to the warp - that way you stand a better chance of the rig settling in a line and working, rather than in a heap and around a rock.
  11. Happy birthday Sam. Have a great day.
  12. Its not only private boats that often have a problem with this. I was alongside a Poole charter boat that got an anchor stuck on the Patch last week - some of the manouvers he tried were downright dangerous.... and I'm sure his anglers onboard wouldnt have appreciated the 90 mins lost fishing time he spent trying to retrieve it. Touch wood, Ive not lost an anchor in the 10 years Ive had a boat - the only time Ive had issues with with an anchor around a pot line or underwater cable. A correctly rigged anchor and Alderney ring should work everytime. If it does get stuck there are a few tricks that usually work. Well done Nige - nice offer. In fact - if anyone is Poole based and wants the same instruction or help this end then I'll match the offer. Martin B was kind enough to show me some 10 years ago so I'm happy to pass on the favour.
  13. You havent seen his towing invoice yet
  14. Tides and times didn't work out for me in the end so I've dipped out of this one. Looks like a super morning out there. Have a good one guys.
  15. I suspect I'll be out of this as planning France on 15/16th, so a weekend away a week before will be out of the question.

Might take you up on that - would be interested to know what program he uses to render and uploaded the vids. I could bring it to the next meeting on a stick.

    Alderney 2013

Finally managed to get the video edited from the Alderney trip. Gutted as it was filmed in 1080HD but I'm having issues with Movie Maker rendering the video at such high resolution. Need to invest I think in new software. Anyway - here it is, in 720, so should be OK on a PC screen. Enjoy! This post has been promoted to an article
  23. Its shipping containers that I'd fear most - Ive heard they can have a nasty habit of floating just under the surface! I'm sure Pete told me of a Charter boat that hit one once, ripping out the front bulkhead.....
  24. See you out there!
  25. Day 4 Last day. Boy that went quick! Cracking weather again - blue sky, light F1-2 SW winds.... lovely. Simple plan for us today - big breakfast, fuel up JV, duty free, then off the the SW Casquets until lunchtime for a few turbot - then point the bows North, head off to a few wrecks Ive not managed to get over before, bag up on pollack and cod and then blast home for about 7pm. The fishing on the Casquets was good - fish most drifts and a better average size too. I was still flying anf had another 4 fish in 2 hours, we had another 9 on the boat. All too soon it was time to tidy away and break out the pirks. Pushing a little bit of tide slowed us down a little but we were soon 20 miles north of Alderney and over some rusty lumps - the fishing however was a little poor, and after trying another 4 marks we had a handful of Pollack up to about 8lb and a single Cod to me in the box. It was now 4pm, and with 38 miles to run, it was time for home - purring along at 20 knots on a flat sea, a couple of boxes of fish and a fantastic few days, the trip back easily slipped by. Back in Poole, tied alongside, I'm sure I head JV moan a sigh of relief when we emptied the 8 cool boxes, 6 kit bags, leads, rods, clothing etc from her! She certianly rose several inches in the water! So that's it! Another epic trip across the channel - in fact, probably the best so far for me. Great fishing, good friends old and new, superb weather and lovely food.... whatelse do you want?....... Except to go again next year.........!!
