  1. I hope this doesnt sound too condesending, but I have noticed with increasing regularity a few members who are experiancing dragging anchor? Whilst in day to day fishing this isnt much of an issue, (simply re-anchor, or wait until it bites) if you were anchored near to a hazard with a dead engine it might be more serious.... Anyway - just wondered what set-ups you are using to have this happen? Ive seen too often on our boats big anchors and not enough chain which seems to be the main issue - and of course having enough warp out. The rule of thumb for those who dont know is length of chain equal to the length of your vessel as a minimum, and three times the depth of the water you are in for the warp. Anchor size is important, but to emphasise a point, when we launched JV we didnt have an anchor for a few months, so used the one I had on my previous Warriors - a 5kg Bruce - it held fine! But.... we have 8m of heavy (I forget what mm) chain to hold it it. Hope that is useful to some?
  2. Suggest we make rough plans to aim for the 6/7th May. I'll be aiming to do a 4 day trip again to make the most of it. As for the cod mid channel etc, I'm happy to target them seperatly later in the year - for me May is Alderney!! The tides every day are good for refueling late afternoon and also early on the Monday morning for the return leg. So in true forum fasion - lets have a list! 1.) Joint Venture 2.) Alfresco 3.) AWOL 4.) Sweet Chariot 5.) Quest II 6.) Wight Magic 7.) Phaeton

  4. Does indeed brighten up the January gloom - looking at the sunny pictures from last May! My catch report here: http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8757 As for dates - I'm also flexible. Personally I find the flatty fishing better on the big tides, but harder work, equally the smaller tides are easy to fish, but I find dont throw up the numbers?? I'd like something small to medium, but will fit with the consensus. Whilst it would be nice to use the May bank holidays, if we dont then I'm happy just to book it off work. Anyone have a weblink to tides in Braye for May?
  5. Doh!! Seems I have a habit of being down at this time of year! http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8235
  6. Well it's back to work for me tomorrow - bugger! So!! It's time to look ahead and cheer up! It is only 4 months to our annual club trip over the channel to Alderney! Horrayyyy!! Early days yet of course, but I guess we will be looking at the May bank holiday weekend, leaving Thurs/ Fri and back Sun/ Mon weather dependant. JV will be going again and space for 2/3 crew. Who else fancies it??

    A different boat

Lovely boat. Your not coming to Alderney this year then? Or maybe you will and leave a week before us lot!
  8. Nope! Sorry! Postponed till the 10th to co-inside with PSAC's comp.
  9. So sorry for the lack of info on this guys, not been online for 3 or 4 days. Basically the Poole Cod Comp dictated whether our would get fished - as they postponed, so will we. I guess it also makes sense to continue to support there comp and move ours to the 10th Jan too. A good call I think, it's blowing hard here today! Seasons greetings!
  10. 1.) Adam F 2.) Alun J. 3.) Zed 4.) Neal 5.) John Young 6.) Martin 7.) Dean 8] Dave Evans 9] Jim Davies 10] Mark [zippy] 11) Littlesal (Graham 12)Tony D 13) Rob Francis (on JV) 14) Charlie Annear (on JV) As it's looking a bit windy for cod I'm taking a tin of paint with me, watching that dry will be more exciting than fishing for flounder!
  11. Bu&&er!! The first year for 10 years that I dont have to do stocktake over xmas and the comp is on a day when the outlaws are coming over for xmas dinner....
  12. I'll be out on JV for this one. If the forecast holds I'll be trying for flounder on the spoil grounds with squid... At least one space on JV if anyone wants it?
  13. Roll up, roll up!! This one wont get postponed!! Sunday 20th is the annual PBSBAC Xmas Fayre. There is a prize for this comp for the best specimen flounder of a luxuary xmas hamper, inc. wine, cheese, preserves, smoked salmon etc... The published comp sheet says 7am to 2pm, but it'll still be dark at 7, so we will be fishing 8am to 3pm, with the scales closing at 4pm sharp. Names here please to give me an idea who is fishing? 1.) Adam F
  14. Anchor.
  15. You are OK in the morning HW is about 8.30am. LW in the afternoon is about 4pm and is a 0.7m - you dont want to be coming up the run anywhere near that! Is you go to the island you'll be on 2lb+ of lead. Do what I'm doing and fish the dolphin bank inshore. Go out and come back early.
  16. Comp Postponed again. NNE 5-6 is the forecast. Next weekend is the flounder comp, so I guess the next logical option is to move it to the 27th and double up with the Poole Sea Angling Center cod comp?
  17. Just an update on the comp - it's looking pretty borderline from where I sitting at the moment. 15-18knots of NE..... Not sure - it's not a no-brainer, so I'll make a call on Sat morning if that's OK??
  18. Check under the seats.... that where I used to hide them!! on 2nd thoughts you'd be made to be drinking beer on a day as cold as today....brrrr

    Worktop offcut??

It's the Utility room - so the wife's domain.... hence the colour request!! It looks fine to me Zippy, sorry to be picky, but I'll check with the boss and let you know? Cheers
  20. Adam F

    Worktop offcut??

Thanks Zzippy, what colour is it?
  21. Adam F

    Worktop offcut??

I'm after a half decent piece of worktop for my utility room, but dont want to buy a full length, as I'm only after 1.5m Any colour finish etc considered as I'm not matching in to anything. Anyone got anything in the garage?
  22. Sorry for the late reply, been out all day. If you havent guessed already the comp is postponed again - new date 13th Dec
  23. Just a reminder that it's also the date for the first aid course I know - I'm on the course... ... most of the rest of the club arnt though and I'm running out of days!
  24. Sun - 35 knots and 5m seas on Windguru. COMP POSTPONED.....again!! NEW DATE: SUNDAY 6TH DEC
  25. Not looking good is it? I'll hang fire until Friday evening and then call it. If I do cancel the alternative date will be the 13th Dec. After that it would mean combining the Xmas Fayre Flounder comp or forgetting it all togoether. Blasted weather!!
