....mind you the big one looks damn nice! http://www.glacierbaycats.com/show/boats/m...dy_hardtop.html What sort of money is the 23' then Tom?

LOL! You make me laugh... The 'best' cat in the World.... that is some statement Tom. You been on one in UK waters? I'm teasing a little.... and they do actually look like a nice boat. I'd compare them to a Trophy with 2 hulls. Very little room on the deck in the photos - a couple of tackle boxes, a live tank etc and no room for anglers - IMHO this is where the Cheetah scores. I think for a hardcore UK fishing cat up to 7m then the Cheetah wins. Over this then you get alot more choice - but the cost really rockets. I also found even the 7m Cheetah out of my budget when I looked - for a start the running gear is x2.....

They dont really make a boat in this category? Sure the P3 25' but that is a short version of yours and bought factory finished from Offshore would be alot more than the boats above and probably without the finish as you said yourself - they build workboats? Col - drop me a PM when you are free and I'll take you for a whizz in JV. Adam
  4. Jim, Have a chat with me at the next meeting about replacing Warrior windows. You can polish them to a degree - but the better option is Lexan Marguard - it is better than glass. Gordon Moore saw mine and did his straight away. I did both Blue Warrior my 165 and Out of the Blue my 175. The stiff Warrior fit is sh%te. This stuff doesnt scratch either. They make riot shields out of it! There is quite a long thread on here somewhere if you search around. Adam

Tomo has the newer one built by Pembrokeshire Yachts - he has a 225 Honda on it and all the toys - very nice. Trev's one is one of the original MI's built by Souter - if you are looking a new package or nearly new then have a look at Just Perfik (Tomo's) I was in a very similar situation a few years back - wanted to move from a day boat to something bigger, and the MI21 was on the list. I had a good look at the Cheetah and was hugely impressed, but the one big downside was the lack of bunk space for overnighting - you loose it due to the catamaran hull giving no space up front. Apart from that they are awesome fishing machines - immensly stable and nippy with just small engines. If it helps before we bought the Aquafish the list was something like: Pirate 21 Cheetah Cat 6.8m Arvor 23/25 Merry Fisher 625/655/695 Rodman 610/700 Pheaton 730 Aquafish 23 We went with the A/fish as wanted somehting offshore capable, sterndrive to keep the speed and fuel economy and wanted 7m+ - plus the idea of building it ourselves won the day. It was a tough decision all the boats were good, it just came down to personal preferance. I'm sure you'll do plenty more research - if you want to chat about my findings drop me a line - if you want a ride out in JV - again, you are more than welcome. Adam

Great boats. Very capable, solidly built - great fishing machines. Quite expensive new for what you get IMO - you get lots, but they cost a bit with all the extras - 2nd hand usually better value. Worth a chat with Tomo or Trev on here.
  7. Was meant to be out diving today - from a boat in Plymouth - had to turn it down at the last minute due to other commitments.... ..... just as well I did - just heard that it sank this afternoon in difficult conditions! The Salcombe ILB and offshore lifeboat safety rescued all onboard - but how bloody scarey!
  8. The last few trips on JV have been nothing short of military precision - the last Alderney trip saw us loading 5 trolley loads of kit onboard, the last mid channel trip - buckets of leads, boxes of shads etc, etc..... ..... so the lats few trips have been the opposite. Ive been going with just the miniumum of gear - a handful of leads, a few swivels, a spool of trace line and a few hooks - all fit into a take away container! Went out this afternoon - knocked off work a few hours early with the plan to fish inshore, mianly in the harbour with just a spinning rod and chill for a few hours... Bought 30 (mostly dead! ) rag from Wessex... and must say I caught a fish on nearly every one - but no target species - just small bass, bream and wrasse - but all good fun! Sometimes simple is better.... the KISS principle. A great way to finish a week.
  9. Incidently - these make superb fittings for removable bait tables. Turn them upsidedown and screw to a chopping board - take two pieces of (I think) 1 1/4" waste pipe which fit snugly over them and then insert into a rocket laucher type rod holder. There's a piccy on here somewhere when I did it on Out of the Blue.

    bet you would!

  12. Top secret? What fish did you catch?
  13. Mike, PM sent. Adam
  14. Mike, Pop a little bit of info on here with regards to any experiance you have, and what you'd like to go for.... I only ask as it will help skippers to offer as trip. You'll welcome on JV anytime, but a bit of info will help we select a suitable type of trip. Once youve done that I'll drop you a PM and see if we can get a few hours on midweek afternoon? Adam
  15. No problem at all. Conditions were benign, so with the backlights turned right down on the units, and eyes adjusted to the dark it was straight forward. The radar helped with shipping and the channel markers, but wont pick up the small pot boys in any detail. Would be a whole load different in a bit of a sea and a proper dark night!
  16. That's where where god made it go down! No the photo isnt flipped - the sun is going down over Studland whilst we were on the gravel bank...
  17. As discussed, I think I'd try to find a little more tide to keep the tope at bay - they were a PITA last night! Let me know how you get on.
  18. A last minute call, and Gordon and I popped out for a few hours after work yesterday. Got to the boat as the rain stopped - and the sea was as flat as a pancake.....damn humid though! Fished the banks off Swanage in 80' water with the plan for rays and conger. In short a pleasent evening, a fresh chilli-con-carne with cold stella on the flat sea and stunning sun-set, and plenty of fish, but not really what we were after. After being spoilt with the Alderney tope that average 30lb - the pack tope that pestered us last night were a nusance! We must have had 20/30 and just couldnt keep a bait down lonng enough for a 'proper' fish. Anyway best fish of the night was a 10lb Starry Smoothhound for me and a 9lb 8oz Small Eye for Gordon. In to the berth at 12.30am and home in bed by 1.15am..... ...... will try again thurs!
  19. Well done Craig. Was lovely out wasnt it!! As Tom said - fuel at Parkstone Bay Marina.... also 24 hour fuel at Salterns (the nigth security guard will serve it if early or late) but it is dear at Salterns, circa 95-98p per ltr.
  20. Brilliant!!! Top work Sam, and well done Billy for coaching him there....

    Wind speed

SW, S or SE are obviously the winds that chop up more than the land based ones. 13-15 knots would likely be a F4 - so in a 16' boat with a southerly wind, it would be bordlerline depending on experiance and the actual size of the boat (16' boats vary hugely!) If you stay close to the shoreline (up to 1 mile out) you can fish Christchurch in pretty strong winds as the land affords protection. Ive fished off the beach huts in a NW 6-7 and it was fine.... it's a tough call though, and even a decent looking forcast on the web can be very different when you get out. Tides, air pressure and previous weather all effect conditions. As for the fog - dont panic - make sure youve got a compass, and take a bearing incase the GPS fails. Make sure you have a foghorn onboard incase you hear engines close by, and keep a damn good look-out.
  22. Agree with Coddy - the rails look nice, but dont do anything. Definatly get the bow storage locker for the anchor warp - they dont leak anymore and are a boon for anchor storage.
  23. Would be really nice of one of the 'yak' guys could write up a short piece on Yaks as a heading in the forum..... what they cost, what to buy / look for - other essential kit etc - tips and advice?

    Hello All

Welcome Woody - see you Thurs! Echo what Tom says - you'll find a wealth of info in the club, so just ask, and more than likey the boat you'll looking at will be owed in the club so you;ll get 1st hand advice. Adam
  25. Oh good! In that case depends on whether you want a super smooth quiet engine or something a little more simple, longer servicing intervals and a bit more power for the hp in the Etec. My choice would be the Susi - but Ive been mightily impressed by the etecs.... personal choice. Great combo whatever you go for, you wont regret. Extras to opt for: Go for the pedestal seats, not the boxes - you get more deck space and you dont need the extra storage. Make sure it has the radar arch fitted - very handy for locating ariels etc. The sliding canopy and the rear rod rest / bar are nice extras but can be made sourced locally for alot less than warrior charge. A pair of 25l quicksilver fuel tanks are better than one big unit that Warrior supply. The big unit is a bugger to remove and then 2 small tanks are easy to take off and fuel without the boat. Good luck with it.
