  1. Incidently - these make superb fittings for removable bait tables. Turn them upsidedown and screw to a chopping board - take two pieces of (I think) 1 1/4" waste pipe which fit snugly over them and then insert into a rocket laucher type rod holder. There's a piccy on here somewhere when I did it on Out of the Blue.

    bet you would!

  4. Top secret? What fish did you catch?
  5. Mike, PM sent. Adam
  6. Mike, Pop a little bit of info on here with regards to any experiance you have, and what you'd like to go for.... I only ask as it will help skippers to offer as trip. You'll welcome on JV anytime, but a bit of info will help we select a suitable type of trip. Once youve done that I'll drop you a PM and see if we can get a few hours on midweek afternoon? Adam
  7. No problem at all. Conditions were benign, so with the backlights turned right down on the units, and eyes adjusted to the dark it was straight forward. The radar helped with shipping and the channel markers, but wont pick up the small pot boys in any detail. Would be a whole load different in a bit of a sea and a proper dark night!
  8. That's where where god made it go down! No the photo isnt flipped - the sun is going down over Studland whilst we were on the gravel bank...
  9. As discussed, I think I'd try to find a little more tide to keep the tope at bay - they were a PITA last night! Let me know how you get on.
  10. A last minute call, and Gordon and I popped out for a few hours after work yesterday. Got to the boat as the rain stopped - and the sea was as flat as a pancake.....damn humid though! Fished the banks off Swanage in 80' water with the plan for rays and conger. In short a pleasent evening, a fresh chilli-con-carne with cold stella on the flat sea and stunning sun-set, and plenty of fish, but not really what we were after. After being spoilt with the Alderney tope that average 30lb - the pack tope that pestered us last night were a nusance! We must have had 20/30 and just couldnt keep a bait down lonng enough for a 'proper' fish. Anyway best fish of the night was a 10lb Starry Smoothhound for me and a 9lb 8oz Small Eye for Gordon. In to the berth at 12.30am and home in bed by 1.15am..... ...... will try again thurs!
  11. Well done Craig. Was lovely out wasnt it!! As Tom said - fuel at Parkstone Bay Marina.... also 24 hour fuel at Salterns (the nigth security guard will serve it if early or late) but it is dear at Salterns, circa 95-98p per ltr.
  12. Brilliant!!! Top work Sam, and well done Billy for coaching him there....

    Wind speed

SW, S or SE are obviously the winds that chop up more than the land based ones. 13-15 knots would likely be a F4 - so in a 16' boat with a southerly wind, it would be bordlerline depending on experiance and the actual size of the boat (16' boats vary hugely!) If you stay close to the shoreline (up to 1 mile out) you can fish Christchurch in pretty strong winds as the land affords protection. Ive fished off the beach huts in a NW 6-7 and it was fine.... it's a tough call though, and even a decent looking forcast on the web can be very different when you get out. Tides, air pressure and previous weather all effect conditions. As for the fog - dont panic - make sure youve got a compass, and take a bearing incase the GPS fails. Make sure you have a foghorn onboard incase you hear engines close by, and keep a damn good look-out.
  14. Agree with Coddy - the rails look nice, but dont do anything. Definatly get the bow storage locker for the anchor warp - they dont leak anymore and are a boon for anchor storage.
  15. Would be really nice of one of the 'yak' guys could write up a short piece on Yaks as a heading in the forum..... what they cost, what to buy / look for - other essential kit etc - tips and advice?

    Hello All

Welcome Woody - see you Thurs! Echo what Tom says - you'll find a wealth of info in the club, so just ask, and more than likey the boat you'll looking at will be owed in the club so you;ll get 1st hand advice. Adam
  17. Oh good! In that case depends on whether you want a super smooth quiet engine or something a little more simple, longer servicing intervals and a bit more power for the hp in the Etec. My choice would be the Susi - but Ive been mightily impressed by the etecs.... personal choice. Great combo whatever you go for, you wont regret. Extras to opt for: Go for the pedestal seats, not the boxes - you get more deck space and you dont need the extra storage. Make sure it has the radar arch fitted - very handy for locating ariels etc. The sliding canopy and the rear rod rest / bar are nice extras but can be made sourced locally for alot less than warrior charge. A pair of 25l quicksilver fuel tanks are better than one big unit that Warrior supply. The big unit is a bugger to remove and then 2 small tanks are easy to take off and fuel without the boat. Good luck with it.
  18. WOW!!! I had one a few years back from the same spot and BOY! did it fight.... Nice one!
  19. If it's tidy then it's about the best package you will get IMO. The Susi 70 and the Etec 70hp are the two engines to look for on the 165. How many hrs on the engine?
  20. I quite often used to speed up a little to get through these lights.... ....but seriously, dont see the problem? Yes we all know they are extra revenue and stat streams, but how can you complain about not being able to break the law? Chill out guys, it's just another speed camera.

  22. Will be heading SW and leaving PBM at 7am to catch the tide. May head East before returning, depends on how well it fishes West. Catch me on CH6 if you are around.
  23. Anyone want to buddy JV?
