  1. Well done Al, beat me to it! Just 5 anglers weighed in, so the xmas shopping must have been a bigger lure! 1st - Alun J - 3lb 0oz 2nd - Paul Stapleton - 2lb 8oz 3rd - Tom Smith - 2lb 1oz 4th - Pete Hall - 1lb 15oz 5th - Rob Francis - 1lb 14oz Well done, and thanks to those to entered!
  2. This Sunday is the PBSBAC Xmas Fayre which is basically a flounder comp held in Poole hardour (or further afield if you so wish!) best specimen flounder walks away with a Christmas Hamper. All entrants need to book in either here or with me by phone before the comp. Fishing times are 8am to 3pm with a weigh in at Baiter afterwards, the scales will close at 4pm sharp, no fish will be counted after this time. The forecast is looking a little iffy but as the comp is in the harbour, unless it is dangerous the comp will likely go ahead. Post here is you wish to fish:

    bag limits

Hmmmmmmm. I'd be prepared to defend this. As others have said - limits fine, but play fair and do it both sides. As Martin has said, 2 cod in the summer? Not worth running mid-channel for that.... Scallops? Shellfish - wont effect you chaps, but would for us diver types! 24?? Would be fine if that was a limit for 5 mins! The bass limit is reasonable IMO.

    Leaders

Leaders Always!! TBH - Their isnt a valid reason I can see not to use them. I even use a very light 6lb mono leader on my mullet rod. For me the big advantages are the little bit of stretch they give when a fish is close to the boat, extra abrasion resistance where it really matters and something a bit more tactile at the business end on which to construct your end tackle. I never use expensive low diameter leader - a bulk spool of 30lb mono lasts a couple of seasons and is cheap eneough to change every few trips. Adam
  5. No one voting then? Plenty of vocal opinions at meetings but no-one willing to vote here? I did miss the option for '0' off the poll.... Seriously - I dont make the comp schedule up for my own benefit - it is for you as the club members. If I dont get your feedback, the schedule will remain the same in 2009 as 2008. Adam
  6. Bear with me on this one guys. I will have another poll to follow this one. Having seen Charlie attempt to get the format right for 4 years and having had a go myself last year, I'm at a loss as to what is wanted. We obviously cannot please everybody, but what I'm looking for is to schedule comps that you want. Suggestions have been that we have too many comps which dilutes the numbers fishing - others say not enough..... so before I look at the type of comps, I need to know the ideal number. Just to remind you, this year we had 11 comps. 5 BFM species / specimen comps, the 48 hour, flatfish comp, Nov open, Bream Comp, Xmas flattie comp and the Lure only comp. Thanks for your feedback.
  7. BRILLIANT! Well done lads - a top day that you wont forget in a hurry. Will - a fish of a lifetime mate!
  8. On a slightly different tack, but still on Bass... I was looking among Al's vast trophy collection this morning, and in particular the Bass specimen trophy. The sizes that have won it have increased every year. It started with an 8lb fish and it was 4 years before a double won it, culminating in Al's magnificent 18lber last year. So - is bass fishing really on the decline? Are we getting better as anglers? Do we have more knowledge as a club now?
  9. Thanks for booking in guys - sorry for the lack of thread on comp - both PD and I have been out all day. Weather was cracking out there today - even better tomorrow, so comp is def. on! Have a good day and stay dafe those who get out. AF

  11. Looking forward to seeing the new arrival!! B&A marine are taking orders for 2009... Hope she goes quick.
  12. I'll have the perfect dive boat in a few weeks! A mate was looking for a rib, so I have passed the details onto him.
  13. Volvo SX Drive.
  14. Will be later, a week or two. I'll check the tide book later and let you know. Adam

  16. Big day today..... Bob turns up at 1pm with the last of the steering fluid, Ive been down the petrol station and have 25L of your finest diesel, and after 30 frantic minutes of configerting the ECU Bob pops out a 10p piece and flips me for it.... ....heads - Bob's honour. (oh well, that means I get to drive it first!! ) Drum roll....... ........click........BRRRRRRRMMMMMM!!!!! Sweet, sweet sound, as she purs away. Another big milestone, now we just have a 2 page snagging / last job list to complete!

    Good
  20. Hope your'e not thinking of going down to the sky.... ! Weather is going to be cracking!
  21. Nothing wrong with Honda's at all John - good engines. Looks like a good price - one thing I would say is what warrenty did you get? Many on here (me included) have had disasters with 2nd hand engines, so make sure you are covered. PMS are generally pretty good. AF

    Boat Show

Yep - smart tabs and a trim wedge have been pretty much standard fit on the 165 for a few years now. A few moan (usually non 165 owners!) about the slight porposing, but hey - it's a small minor defect on such an otherwise well designed boat - at normal operating speeds it's not an issue. 170? Not seend that before - I thought the more refined 165 was the 165 Pro Angler? Edit: Oooh! Just seen it http://www.warriorboats.co.uk/2008-boats-shows.html Looks like a 165 and 175 morphed - I guess hence the 170... strange how they have shoe horned it in between the three others? Maybe they will phase one out? Good to see they are constantly improving and developing....

    Boat Show

Every year, same question..... I was in the factory 5 years ago and aw the MDF plug for a 20' pilothouse, then 4 years ago I was up again and saw it in GRP, since then it's the same story - 'will be ready for the next show' I think it's more a case of they do so well with the 165 they dont need / want to do anything else - that's why they stopped the 195. Adam
  24. Etec shades it for me - I just feel it's a slightly more modern engin both in looks and technology, and as coddy says, a better resale value. Paul D on here has a 40hp Etec and is delighted with it. My 2p worth.

    Aeolian Sky

We started at the bow where the shot was, and moved south along the portside rail down to the accomidation block. Although it was dark, torches made the wreck recongisable... Plenty of eels on the wreck!! There were 4 dive boats yesterday - until the end of Oct the water stays warm enough to dive for most people, so after then really...
