Between Mike and I we have made a decision to always aim to call the comps by 6pm on a Friday eve. It will be posted here. On the odd occasion that the weather looks marginal, we may decide to post here on Friday, but delay the final decision to Sat, with the very latest descision to be made by 5pm. Also - with regards to re-scheduling comps, a decision has been made to always choose the next suitable date, this avoids any backlogs of unfished comps at the end of the year. Adam

What are the tides, what time are we meeting at Rownhams?

FOR SALE: 2 x Abu 7000LD Big Game Reels - as new. These reels are only 2 months old. They have been used less than 4 times and are as brand new. I am only selling as I bought the wrong size by mistake and now have the size I wanted. I paid

Just thought I'd drop a note on here to recommend a local businesss - its not often we find a friendly helpful local business who are prepared to go the extra mile. I have been thinking of fitting a cuddy canopy to OotB as I had on BW before here, however the Warrior jobbie sets me back a whacking

Yes! Correct. This means 12 miles from nearest land, and I would suggest that 95% of the time this will be sufficiant for you. As I wanted to fish mid channel occastionally I phoned them and they asked me to confirm this in writing that I would be making the occasiona trip up to 30 miles offshore - and they ammended the policy with no extra charge. It has been decided to re-schedule the species competition from last weekend to this coming Sunday - 1st July. Please book in here, or with Paul D or myself. My number is 07957 829902. With regards to the weather, a decision will be made by Sat evening by Mike Fox as to the conditions on the day. I'll start the ball rolling by booking myself in on OotB - probably with Gordon M as crew. PS: Dont forget this is a Boat Fishing Monthly qualifier competition!

Rob, We will always try and re-organise any comps as soon as possible as to not clash with any other events and to try and give a reasonable gap between if possible. In this case, the long range forcast is OK at the moment and a slight majority verdict suggests that we try and schedule the comp for this coming Sunday - 1st July. Thanks for the feedback guys - all very helpful. I'll start a new thread to ascertian numbers. Adam

This was a good few years ago on Tara and BW. Yes youre right, like bream the big females come in early in the year. However I find the spawned leaner, and later fish fight harder?? Yes - the Starries do seem to be the most common around here.
-
All females. Not massively fat though, just well proportioned. These arnt the bigges that the mark can throw up though - Ive had them well over 15lb regular in the past on the boat, but much earlier in the year - April / May time. Yes Paul, all starries bar one tiddler that was a common.

Whilst the open coast was 'orrible today - the Solent was actually OK. Gordon and I launched Enticer at 8am this morning for a bit of late Smoothy action. Macky were hard to find at the sconce so straight over to the mark and settle in under the canopy with bacon rolls and hot tea. Action was pretty constant all day and we ended up with 15 in total, 10 to me, 5 to Gordon, but the skipper had the last laugh by bagging the best of the day (and beating Paul's earlier club record) with a nice fish at 11lb 4oz. What hard fighting beasts these are - I had kinda forgot, that searing 1st run they make, brings a smile to a damp and miserable day! Cheers Gordon.

OK guys, so we need a new date for the comp that was wisely cancelled today. The two options as I see it are next weekend - 1st July or the 22nd July. Next weekend seems logical, but a couple of the guys who fish the comps cant make it. So vote with your feet - post here or give me a call and I'll make a decision early this week. Adam

I had a quick look over one when I was looking trev, never went to sea in her though. Not bad - nice lines but as Peter said not as much room as others, mind you, she is only 23', so 2' less that the offshore 25 - quite narrow on the beam also. The ones I have seen have all been very basic in the cabin also. They seem to hold their money.

Like this: Taken at 32m diving the North Wall, in Grand Cayman BWI a few weeks ago - it was an awesome slight! Wing span approx 8' - Spotted Eagle Ray.

As the post elsewhere on the forum says, I have just fitted one of these to OotB, sure the initial outlay as expensive (

Youre welcome on OotB Trev - Im sure to be tagging along!

Good point Mike, They do stay with thier owners, however with the 165 esp. I think that it is case of bigger and better - certianly most of the ones I have heard of being sold are due to upgrading - myself being a prime example People who dont wish to upgrade tend to keep hold of them, or just update with a newer version - you'll have to try very hard to beat what is the best in it's class!

I imagine! " I spy with my little eye something begining with W..." " Water?" "Nope" "Wave?" "Yep, your go..." You didnt fancy trolling a few lures then just in case???

Phil, Push yourself another couple of grand and get a proper Warrior http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F144982/ Whatever you do - DONT RUSH... the Warrior's are so popular their is always a good selection up for sale. I rushed 1st time round and got a good boat and a dog of an engine - it cost me another

Us too - as long as the window holds Rach and I will be out on OotB. Martin, what's the plan? Pottery pier or Studland....or further afield?
-
Father's Day..... I am tempted by an early start means a hangover.... Ill pass, maybe an eve trip next week?
-
Great news martin - back over next weekend then! But at 30 knost this time! It's always a big relief when the problem gets sorted with a small big... engines can be expensive things and the sinking feeling you get when it starts playing up aint nice....esp 60 miles from home.
-
ah ha!.... but I am planning to fish this one!
-
Thanks for the report Martin - a bit of a baptism of fire for your first channek crossing eh? Well done though - I must admit I was envious all weekend of you guys, esp when Duncan cut me short Sat morning to net a turb!! Bad news on the engine, I hope she can be sorted without too much pain....

My first trip for a good few weeks, and boy was it good to be out! A stunning windless morning with a warm sun on our backs as Alun J and I made our way out of the run at 6.30am and pointed the bows south - 26 miles to go.... A smooth easy run all the way out was marred when we hit the 20 mile mark and dense sea mist enveloped us Long story short - fishing was slow, 4 pollock and 2 cod aboard OotB best pollock and cod both 10lb. Water was still quite murkey with May Water which may not have helped, and tides were pretty small - fasted drift was 2 knots all day. A slower more cautious run home saw us back on the slip for 6pm. The new Navman Fuel computer was ace!! We covered 78 miles, used 58 ltrs of fuel - superb, even better than the old boat. I also discovered that the most economical cruise is 20-22 knots - at 3500rpm this gives 15/16 ltrs per hour

Up with the early bird and you'll be OK - b4 7am should be fine, I think he arrives about 8-9am...
