Paul, You posted at 5:16 am. Must be getting excited about Alderney. Hope this crappy weather breaks for you. Look forward to the plugging. BB
-
Charlie, If the weather is good I can almost always get live Hermits. Plenty of pot boys flog them down here. I will see what I can do for you mate. Do you have a tanking system to keep them alive? BB
-
A lot of diversity in a simple thread lads. Doesn,t it just show what fishing is all about. A very personal thing with some tactics working for one and some for another. Don,t be scared to try something different, just follow instinct. Great isn,t it? Munterhunter (nice name) Good point about the option using attractors for scavvies on the retrieve, points are points. BB

Paul, Is a chug plug a popper? I would be interested in a dusk session for Bass with these. I can return the favour about October when the big Bass run shallow in Portland harbour. BB
-
Sorry Bob, Cannot make the Bream comp but will be OK for the Solent Bash, if that is OK with Mark and Paul. If either of you could give me a bell or Message on forum please. I am a bit green on the Smoothies but willing to learn lads. What bait will I need to bring?? What class tackle?? BB PS I am fishing the Poole Species Hunt on the 15th, any of your lads fishing??
-
Bob, Its jellies mate that need the drift speed. Shads and Rapalas can be useda lot slower, however , sometimes you need to realy crank to get a bite. Depends on those fickle little fisheees mate. BB
-
Bob, Never judge a book by its cover mate. I do agree that drifting with largish leads is not the ideal scenario to test these rods, as you say they are very tippy and give lots of false indications. If you get the chance it will be worth trying one for the Bream and Smoothies. Not allowed to fish Plymouth so I might get the chance to fish your Solent comp, fingers crossed. What are the tides like there on your comp day? BB

Thanks for the address Adam. Spoke to Mike yesterday at 3:30, ordered some hooks, arrived first post this morning. That is what I call service. Pretty Knowledgeable chap as well, we had quite a chat about hooks and fishing in general. Thanks again mate. BB

Yes Bob, Squid heads are brilliant for the bigger fish, but they do tend to attract doggies and bull huss with the occasional strap thrown in. You are right Adam about the moving bait bit, excellant method. Paul, full of ragworm? Must have stole a few hookbaits eh!! Adam, I had a chat with Paul J yesterday about the long shanked circle hooks that you use, wouldn,t mind giving them a go. Do you have an Email address or site address for them mate? BB
-
Thank you Bob, looking forward to some fishing with you lads. BB

What is your basic Bream rig in your area? We tend to use smallish hooks 2-4 to a 20lb fluorocarbon trace about two feet long. We fish this of a boom rig and tend to use attractors, beads etc. Bait is relevant to the area your fishing but squid is pretty good. The larger Bream don,t get to Weymouth until July-August but plenty of smaller stuff from about May. We tend not to use worm much as Wrasse are on the same ground and can be a pain. We also get quite a few nice Plaice in with the Bream at times. Is this pretty much the same your end? BB

Yes Mark, you are spot on regarding the amount of boats affecting the fishing. When you get a new wave of fish its OK for a while but they soon get shifted off the banks. Thats why the surrounding areas are starting to fish better now. Will try to get some marks for you this week but it may be better to wait until after your jolly to C.I. The fish will have filled out on the mussels and have eat me written in orange spots on their backs. By the way, do you have to fill in some sort of docket to register my Plaice, new boy on the block so I am not sure yet. 4lb 7 ozs the next day isn,t bad is it mate? Your pollack was a nice size mate, Great seeing your face light up when that hit.( Or was that the sunburn?) Been thinking about that episode and have got it sussed how we can fish it dead right. BB

Thank you Maverick, I,m sure the pleasure will be all mine mate. Glad to come aboard. Thanks Adam, got a hangover mate? Gonna try and make the Bream comp but have an EFSA two dayer the following weekend in Plymouth as well as Poole on 15th. Could be pushing my luck. Mark, I will let you know this week about the comp. I have the secret Bream bait in my freezer so if I can,t make it I will let you have it mate. Regards to you all, BB PS. If I don,t see you before, have a cracker in the Channel Islands lads. If you are stuck parking wise let me know because you could park where I live and I can ferry you in. Its only a mile out of Weymouth so it will be no problem.

(Pout make lovely Thai fishcakes.) The debate over whether to keep or release goes on and on lads. The final say comes down to the individual and common sense. Yesterday I was out with Loyal Royal and it is a pleasure to see the majority of fish go back over the side. 1 Plaice for the pot, a couple of Pollack to keep Marks family sweet, and some baitfish for the freezer. Watching the fish head back to the bottom is as enjoyable as catching sometimes. BB ( A pang of regret with Turbot though )

What more could you want in life? Good weather, good company and a few fish to spoil the tranquility. Thanks a bundle guys. By the way, the plaice went 4lb 7ozs this morning and the Pollack went 3lb 5ozs ( looked bigger ). What did yours go Mark? Cannot make the Boat Jumble, my son is still a little poorly so we are staying local just in case. I think your Bream comp is 16th May but I am fishing 15th May out of Poole so will have to play it by ear( Build up some brownie points) Please forward these details to Charlie for me: Regards, BB PS Nice fishing boat Gary, hope you have a good day today on the Banks.(If you can find room mate)

Our boat is 20ft and we pay
-
Anything will do buddy, a couple of sash weights, a lump of old chain etc. BB
-
All still on for Saturday on Loyal Royal chaps? All the signs are good. Do you want me to sort bait etc? Regards BB
-
Don,t use the anchor as a drag newboy, take a weight about 10-20 lbs depending on boat size. As Adam says, if your drift goes up to or over 2 knots drop the weight over and let out rope until you get the required speed. If you hit Plaice then bang the MOB button as they often shoal together. I am hopefully out with Paul J and Loyal Royal on Saturday so see ya there. Good luck BB

Always look on the bright side of life.
