  1. Hi Andrew welcome to the Club Because the tides around Poole are a little "special" with a double high tide between lows, it is not just a mathamatical equation to work out the Slack periods. Most of us look at the LW times and work from there LW Thursday for Poole 15.15, and the tide is fairly small so the flow should not be too strong. It would be really usefull for you to get a tidal atlas for the area, these are based on HW times at Dover. a rough guide is Slack in the channel is the HW Dover and HW+6 hrs Dover Thursday HW Dover is 10.09 and 22.23 slack in the channel will be about 10.00 and 1600 I can not advise on what weather you should go in. [Obviously the calmer the better] as I do not know your experiance. The decision is yours alone, my advice would be not to push your limits If you think it is not good enough, do not go. ref the wrecks On the drift you need clear water and that is probably a little further off at anchor the vis does not matter and the closer ones can do well. The good news is that the numbers on the wrecksite are fairly accurate so with patience you should find them. If new to this pick a good big one that stands well above the seabed. If its just the wrecking experiance you are after look at the huge Aeolian Sky Its more than 10 miles away but not far offshore, let the ebb tide push you there and the flood tide push you home. Look it up on the site, but just in case its invaded by divers look at a couple more in teh area as well. I expect that others will add more info PM me if you need more help. AS I said earlier, Do not push your limits If in doubt do not go. Charlie
  2. Hi Graham We have the larger boat as the boys and I love to fish the wrecks and she makes an excellent boat to go away on for fishing and family trips. If it was just me and just fishing my boat would be smaller and I would charter offshore or join friends. Its about matching the engine to the boat, without the need to push the engine really hard all the time. Shaft drive is simpler and easier to fix and lighter on maintenance costs Stern drives are complicated, expensive to maintain but far more effiecient Ours is a D4 Volvo on a DPH drive with duo props. 260 horses to give just under 32 knots WOT, but a thousand revs down still gives about 20knots. Sure we burn some fuel, but with friends onboard and everyone chipping in it is manageable. Charlie
  3. Sounds great mate I am sure that calmer seas would have made it easier with less effort involved, it was lumpy enough where we were yesterday morning. Look forward to joining you in 2012. and to hearing which lumps you fished Nice pictures mate and good fishing Biggest bream of the year I believe Is the gurnard off to be smoked? Charlie

  5. A true Peter classic Few words and straight to the point
  6. Weather depending we were hoping to head out to the deeper tope marks to look for a few. That would put us in radio range if you need backup. I have a space available if you want it. Charlie
  7. Good luck mate I hope that it goes well and you get a PB. For those that have not followed this on the WSF site that is an impressive fish and probably is the reason why Tom a self proclaimed light line fan is using "Proper big game kit" I hope that you have loads of fun Charlie
  8. We may go out on Sunday and try to find out

  18. Hi Lofty I usually use a two hook rig for bream , unless its really snaggy then I simplify to a drilled bullet and flowing trace. Hook size about 1 or 2 but avoid very fine wire as they could straighten on big fish. I find luminous beads by the hook help, and use squid heads for bait. keep the bodies for ray bait or chop up and use as groundbait Rays I use mackeral fillets whole or cut in half lengthwise for bigger Macs. Trace of choice would be a flowing trace about 4ft long and at least 60-lb mono. Tight lines Charlie

    Thanks Matt
  20. Be carefull Adam Humphrey bought one and used it but did some damage to his boat using it. The driving in the shallows dragged in sand through his impellor and wore out the pump. and the load on his leg damaged that as well Charlie
  21. Lofty Ballard should be good for a few Bream and they get some good ones close in. Also the Fleur de lys wreck for a few small bait fish, Rays around the whitehouse grounds at slack or under Durlestone Castle at the end of the Bay. Wrasse Pollack macs bass over the peverill ledge, inside the buoy but take care of the overfalls here. Tight lines Charlie
