Happy Birthday Brian have a great one Charlie
-
Hi Nige There are a few spots closer in worth trying, that are not so badly affected by tides. I thought the boys were keen to go, so i was going. ether side of the 10 am HW and up to the start of the main ebb. trouble is Sam has a new girl in tow and Dan collected a replacement car today. both suddenly not so keen on a short trip. Wendy's new kitchen arrives next week, so I had better get ready for that instead. Back to the point, there may be some decent whiting about and rays at slack, so tight lines and have fun. I know ehere I would rather be Charlie

Sorry John I had a 50/50 chance and blew it Charlie

Hi to bump this up and keep it growing There is a Club comp on 4th July and a big tide on the 17/18th So that leaves two weekends with reasonable tides. Lets pick the first one, with a fall back two weeks later if the weathers poor. Fri 9th LW 1500 Sat 10th LW 1600 Sun Lw 1700 I will start to look into what facilities and costa are at Portland for the larger boats and for trailer boats. Also want to check what is now in the area ref pubs, food etc I will even talk to them to check if their "Olympic" accomadation may be available, if so at what cost So far, showing an interest are: By Sea: Alfresco Awol Joint Venture Serenity Wishin Abode 2 Phaeton ?? Quest 2 Sweet Chariot 2 White magic Prodigy Lady Cristine [sleep off boat] Moaki Warrior Just perfick By Road: R2D2 trail down Ellen 2 trail down Jo Jo trail down Marineboy trail down Chetta Cat [Colin and Bobbi TBC ] If others are interested, or you wish to add anything please post. Or simply cut paste and update this one as I have here This could finish up being the biggest meeting [ and possibly forum thread] ever So lets pencil it in and go for it discussing fishing and crews comes later Charlie

I was going to suggest a while ago that the fish of the month award this year would be an AT membership, Then realised that this may be just too difficult. Charlie
-
Hi Mike I see you have found the Club you were looking for, and may I say you have picked a good one. Look forward to meeting you both, please join in the banter Charlie [AKA Alfresco30]

Too bloody clever, is that why the blonde on a diet keeps on coming up

Great report Trev We really miss Ruperts no nonsense approach. Great to fish that balanced gear, but I think that sometimes we struggle to get the hooks to set in properly with it, and when the eels want to go its hard to stop them. But isn't it fun Looks like you had a great day well done mate Charlie
-
Welcome to the Club Steve Please feel welcome to join in on the Forum and you will soon get the feel of us lot, sure you will get banter but none is bitter. Nice boat, What sort of fishing do you do ? and what sort of range. We had a Pirate 21 with us in alderney last year, certainly shows the capability Cheers again Charlie
-
Well done Rob nice one Congratulations to you and to Neil for getting you on the fish. I hope that all enjoyed the comp, nice to see a Member winning it again. I suppose you will be changing your signiture box again now Charlie

Blue Anchor 24/01/10 AnglersAfloat Species Comp
great white replied to Overrun's topic in Kayak Section
Nice report we were cold on teh boat yesterday, would not have swapped places, even though I used to love fishing Blue Anchor Bay from the shore. Charlie -
Sam has had to pull out because of Car failure. He has a mate in the motor trade who is looking at it tomorrow, he needs the car for the Pompey-Poole trips more than a fishing trip. We still intend to go early so will just try for a cod further out. Tight lines and good luck in Andy's comp. I hope that the fish are biting and our guys do well at the prize table. Charlie

Rob I have seen that first hand in NZ they have controls and are willing to enforce them, and good fishing again after years of decline. No doubt it took people like Mark to start the ball rolling As Peter says Mark and the AT need to know our feelings, perhaps someone should send him an email link to this thread. As others have said, I will join to try and help in a tiny tiny way, but with good marketing and PR how many others would also join up. I have a lot invested in a recreational angling boat, how much would she be worth with no fish? I hope to go offshore at the weekend, it will cost about
-
I must say that I was impressed that Mark had travelled so far to address last nights meeting. I had also hoped to hear a little more about stratagy for the AT's future campaigns, but was impressed that he seemed totally clued in and able to answer such a variety of off the cuff questions. If we had more time I would have delved more in to why Tackle shops could be offered a per person discount, but Clubs could not. I am sure if AT offered our club
-
The boys have talked me into a trip further out [not hard] we will have a few drifts and probably anchor by some rusty lump. Because of that we will enter the Club comp, but not Andy's due to time issues etc Please book Charlie, Sam, Dan and Will into the Club Cod comp. Tight lines guys Charlie
-
The dates for Club comps are about to be published Plus Alderney trip 6th-9th May WSF Weymouth meet 5th-12th June I will try and look at a weekend date, avoiding the above. Then start to talk to Weymouth/Portland about prices and discounts. For those thinking of Alderney, I will talk that over with them again ref taxi, fuel etc. Charlie

Hi Dom Try giving James Brothers in Poole a call 01202 622990 we usually get them to cut our plate when making cradles for the Boatyard, or they may have a bit of 10mm in the offcuts box Charlie

No problem Dave The oil should never touch water so salt or fresh is not the point really, You can easily check the specs to see oil capacity for a gearbox, if you can not find out let me know. Unfortunatly I am struggling to find my old manuals marine gearbox oil is commonly available, in plastic tubes so it can be squeezed in using the method descibed earlier. If you can not find out how much the box holds and do not want to buy more than required, drain it first and measure how much came out, using an old milk container or simular. Hope that helps Charlie
-
The gearbox bullet is the gear casing Two large screw heads One at the top, usually thought to be a filler but is the vent Bottom one is a drain/filler open that one first and oil will only seep out, open the top one lets air in to allow flow of oil out of the lower one. if a full drain required, leave both out to drain the oil into container. Filling again is through the lower one to let air escape from the top [A lot easier with a proper pump but just possible with oil in a tube] when oildl comes out top hole gearbox full and no air trapped. Replace top fitting tight, then when filler tube removed replace the lower one. Simples But if you have found emulsified [Cloudy] oil, it has water in and the problem needs to be found before refilling box/using engine. Charlie
-
We try to fit them in even when the fishing is good But sometimes its easier than others Bring on a day when the fishing is so good we take all the food home Charlie
-
I Hope to have crew and take part yet to check with my usual team, but the boys are keen. Does anyone have the details to hand ref book in and weigh in? Thanks Charlie
-
I spoke with Gary yesterday aparently a good fish won it [3lb 5 seems to ring a bell] he had a few fish on the boat and took 9th place with one of I think he said was 2lb 5 I believe all 4 on his boat had fish, but not all weighed in. Charlie

Well done Paul on the Cod, they are being a bit ellusive at the moment. Alun its not like you to let others take the table fish mate. Rich as you say its worth having the kit on the boat to get you home in the fog, but its also important to know how to use it. I had a call yesterday from a mate concerened about the fog, because his chart plotter is in for repair. he has a second GPS, but does not know how to use its inbuilt [un mapped] plotter. When I suggested using his radar he did not know how. We have an origo meths cooker on the committee boat at work, if they remember to put the evaperation covers on its fuel lasts, but several have been damaged by replacing while hot, and to be honest it takes so long to boil a kettle most Members do not bother.
