Nice one My advice for what it is worth. Get hold of a few numbers to put in for marks in the areas you will fish in. Find a bit of time to put them in and learn how to use the set, at times like this weekend when the wind is up. then it will be easier to use on fishable days. Resist the temptation to put dozens of marks in [that you will never use], as this just crowds the screen and waypoint lists. Making it hard to find the waypoints that you do want to go to. Gradually you will build up a usable list. From numbers received, places fished, places you have gone over that look good or show fish. and of course like the rest of us, places where you have passed and seen other boats fishing. tight lines Charlie

Recently I had a problem with the deckwash pump, it just stopped working and started popping the circuit breaker. During discussions with Jabsco by email I was sent docs and an exploded diagram. On reading them I was reminded that the pump has a two year warrenty. The pump had been bought new and fitted more than two years ago, but the boat not launched until Nov 2007. I returned the pump to Cleghorn Waring last week with a covering letter to see if they could sort out the problem under waranty. Yesterday I received a brand new unit. No chasing, no quibbling Just good customer service Well done them. Charlie

I have just been told that the Coastguard and Poole harbour Commissioners are holding an excercise on Sunday 29th November 2009 This will be between 0930 and 1100 and we have been told that the entrance will be closed for part of this period. If I receive more info or a notice to Mariners I will update this thread. Regards Charlie

Full displacement boats tend to be stable but it depends on hull design Some I have worked on roll horribly, but small ones tend not too. Some ships can be go fast even though they are definatly displacement, one of mine did over 30 knots, but it had 25,000hp per shaft very economic 4 tons of fuel per hour each shaft Back too the tread Really it is down to how far and how often compared to costs If you like to stay inshore fishing most of the time, keep the nice boat you have but take a trip on other boats or charters when the urge to go further gets you. If you want to go further every trip then a change of boat may be required. As you say you suffer at sea, that may not be the best option. Charlie

Thanks Rob I thought that may be the case, its only worked on small /short movies I need to work out how to set the movie on the camera to a lower resolution for these 5 min movies. Charlie

Hi All Have tried to upload a video on youtube of Dan at the weekend playing an eel in the tide. The upload has failed both at home and at work. The specs say that it has to be less than 2gb and 10 mins and it is, it also says use high def and I have. Does anyone know what may be going wrong? I have tried a few times this year to upload vids, I managed it on 4 occasions but failed on others. Is there an easier way? For info the camera ia a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 Please keep answers simple as poss [Like me ] Charlie

Colin I will have a look when I get home, I have a small book on the subject I will post details rather than quote from it as it may need updating. Charlie

Hi as Brian says it sounds right and looks like a nice boat with limited speed. You can gain a little speed by upping the horsepower, but not a lot and it is not usually worth the hassle and expense. the extra weight sits the hull deeper in the water, increases the displacement thus cancelling out the benifit of the extra power and burning more fuel. Looking at the picture the boat probably has a keel and rudder steering, adding an Outboard on the transom would not work. Its a change to a semi displacement or Planning boat to get the cruising speed you are after. But that will up the fuel consumption and costs per trip. Charlie

Thanks Dave For those that are not sure, especially those with Ally Block engines, it is not only an antifreeze it is also an anti corrosive. So should be maintained at the right mix all of the time. Charlie

Tom I am not in that business, but if I speak to my mate who is I will ask him. However I have a skip in the garden with plenty of 4 by2 in it from a stud wall I have removed, if you want it for your fire you are very welcome. Charlie

Next time we meet we can talk through a few short cuts you may not be using. I asked about the card as I find it easier to use the PC to load new waypoints then transfer them using SD card. I also record quite a bit of wreck info using the SD card, so I can view later on the PC Charlie

Sorry guys not had a chance to come online to see messages Bit late now to call but if you see this Dan and I are going and Gordon H is joining us as crew. Looks like another good forecast Who is going afloat? I am not sure what we are doing yet and who is coming. Dan may even give it a miss this week, to go back to the rugby club. It may be a daylight trip starting at a wreck then coming inshore to hide from the tide. If anyone is looking for a trip, get in touch. Charlie
