Dave Thanks mate Is that the menu to enter a new waypoint or to look up a saved one? Does yor set have the facility for a second SD card? Charlie

Brian if you want to compare, I have Navionics Gold. If you are in the harbour and have time to pop in, I could bring mine so that you could load it on your set and compare. I believe that the Nauticpath is fine but the Navionics has more detail and extra features like tide hieghts and tidal flows [Currents] Not sure how or even if Nautipath shows wrecks, but navionics gold does and some are very close to the actual positions. I was looking for a picture that shows the stainless upright ones on the front of my engine box. I fitted these as an alternative to the plastic ones they were not too dear and are 316 stainless. the centre one now holds the bait table support leg. Last year I also fitted two at an angle on the back of my bench seats, these are ideal for putting nets in or long rods as outriggers LOL I found this one of Dan It also shows the breakaway rests on the rails that prove usefull Charlie

Nice fish Peter glad there was at least one out there. I expect as much as Alun would have liked to win the comp, he would not really want to do so with a 3lb 12 Blonde. Hard luck Jackie Its heartwrenching when a favorite rod breaks, but to also loose the best fish of the day makes it a double blow. Better get hubby to buy you a new shiny rod, for all the times you let him go fishing Charlie

Well done Paul and of course James You did a great job mate, and better to help a friend in need than to sit wondering if he is OK. Happy to hear on the radio that all was sorted and that we were surplus to requirements, but would have been happy to come over if needed. May the fish gods smile on you next time out Charlie

Well that was a hard day we met in the dark to get and early start. and the lights were still on as we tried for fresh bait. three or four spots all had the same result, NOTHING As we went west the swells got bigger so I decided to go for comfort and stay very close to home. We fished hard trying all the baits and combinations we had, Alun had a baby blonde of 3lb 12oz in the morning, that we though would mean nothing but turned out to be the days heaviest fish. Some of the boats close by were reporting fish on the phone so we stuck with it, but eventually we had a move, a few more dogs and Alun another baby Blonde but no decent fish. By three we decided to try another plan and use the Poole Rag Alun had dug on the flat fish. a few bream checkers and wrasse outside. As nobody was in a rush for home we tried one more spot and Gordon bagged a small but welcome plaice. I will leave him to discuss that one with Adam. It was great to have Alun and Gordon on the boat again, sorry we did not find more fish. Next time I hope Charlie

Hi I have used Navionics gold on my last two sets I like the fact it shows details as they are shown on the charts, same colours and symbols. Currently I have the 28xg as it covers a wide area, but it still holds plenty of detail when zoomed right in. I have used it over a big section of our Club waters and its good for all, and it shows tides and currents which is great when away from areas you know well. I have no idea how far you travel, but that chart will probably cover it. Charlie

lets hope it was the maths one Charlie

Gordon and Alun will be joining Dan and I on Alfresco for the competition. Need a few more rays than last week, so lets hope they are still about. Tight lines all Charlie
-
Sat best day, comp On, Thats good. Alfresco will join in I will have to see if I can get Gordon away from work and gardening, to join Alun Dan and I. If not, I will post that I have a space available. Charlie

Nice one Paul/Adam, Thanks But there is no memtion of a need to book in prior to the comp, so Club knows who is fishing, from where and when. I thought that was included for safety reasons, but I may have just not remembered correctly. Charlie

Need to have a look at what is available and shop around I am afraid. My choice is Lowrance, but others like Garmin, Hummingbird, Standard and Raymarine A lot of deals available. when considering which make, look at where it will be mounted and how exposed that area is. We take the fishfinders off the RIB's at work but the ends of the cables suffer in the weather and eventually fail. You may wish to pick a set that has some sort of cover for the connections. Charlie

If we are to fish the comp as published IE a dual ray and flatty comp then IMHO it should be in weather that allows both to be fished for. That means a call needs to be made on safety grounds. That said I am sure that I will not be the only one that would appreciate some notice if it is to be changed to Sunday. For crew and bait reasons. Charlie

OOPs Wendy is back on Sunday, better for me on Sat but if required could start early Sun and just do 7hrs and get home early. Charlie

Hi The trouble with hand held GPS/Plotters is the size of the screen It can be hard enough to see what is going on on a fixed set, reduce the size further and I would be knackered. A GPS set giving position, distance to waypoint, course to steer etc would be OK but using plotters when drifting marks would be very hard. Maybe worth considering a larger fixed set that could be removed at the end of the day. [i think that is what the Kyakers do] Charlie

Well done guys Had one at poole well inshore on Sunday and another followed it up. I expect an evening trip would see plenty. Charlie
-
Happy birthday mate I hope you enjoy your first one in NZ Charlie
-
Thinking of going out on Sunday Maybe having a look at the slacker parts of the tide for a ray or two, as practice for next weeks comp. If the tide runs hard or wind howls may come inshore for bream/flatties Just Will and I at the moment and timing will be decided by the forcast. If anyone fancy's a trip get in touch. Charlie

Hi Paul I am working Sat AM so if you need a hand I will be about. Charlie

Hi Paul I had better put my sunglasses on and pop over and have a look Be careful with the oxalic acid, If you mix it too strong the solution itself stains. Mike I thought Y10 had oXalic acid in it, but I may well be wrong. For years I used teak cleaning powder, which also contains the acid. Thanks for the advice Paul, now get the boat afloat and dirty again Charlie

Jim and others If it is just wreck Numbers you want and info on those wrecks a subscription to the wrecksite, may also make a good present. Once subscribed there is loads of info available. However I do not remember how much that costs like here for Kyarra, some info not available in this view. http://wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?548 Charlie

As I hinted at earlier If you have numbers that you want checked. PM them to me I will look on my Data Base to see if I have more accurate GPS numbers for you. Its not a trick to get more numbers, its a genuine offer to help To start with you may want to stick with the inshore wrecks and practice the various techniques. You will be surprised at what occasionally comes from these. Charlie
-
If that is too confusing PM the ones your thinking of looking at, too someone with a large list, and they may cross refer for you. Charlie

Unless its a very exact spot IE a small wreck just enter the ones given and put a zero on the end. Then go and have a look The fact that they are to two decimal places usualy indicates that they are old numbers. The problem can be knowing which datum they are using, and if they are Degrees-minutes-seconds or Degrees-minutes-decimals. I believe [if I get this the right way] that if none of the Numbers you are given have any numbers higher than 60 they are DMS [You do not get more than 60 mins or seconds] and if higher than 60 they are DMD. Hope that has not confused you more Charlie
