Thinking of going out on Sunday Maybe having a look at the slacker parts of the tide for a ray or two, as practice for next weeks comp. If the tide runs hard or wind howls may come inshore for bream/flatties Just Will and I at the moment and timing will be decided by the forcast. If anyone fancy's a trip get in touch. Charlie

Hi Paul I had better put my sunglasses on and pop over and have a look Be careful with the oxalic acid, If you mix it too strong the solution itself stains. Mike I thought Y10 had oXalic acid in it, but I may well be wrong. For years I used teak cleaning powder, which also contains the acid. Jim and others If it is just wreck Numbers you want and info on those wrecks a subscription to the wrecksite, may also make a good present. Once subscribed there is loads of info available. As I hinted at earlier If you have numbers that you want checked. PM them to me I will look on my Data Base to see if I have more accurate GPS numbers for you. Its not a trick to get more numbers, its a genuine offer to help To start with you may want to stick with the inshore wrecks and practice the various techniques. You will be surprised at what occasionally comes from these. Charlie

If that is too confusing PM the ones your thinking of looking at, too someone with a large list, and they may cross refer for you. Charlie

Unless its a very exact spot IE a small wreck just enter the ones given and put a zero on the end. Then go and have a look The fact that they are to two decimal places usualy indicates that they are old numbers. The problem can be knowing which datum they are using, and if they are Degrees-minutes-seconds or Degrees-minutes-decimals. I believe [if I get this the right way] that if none of the Numbers you are given have any numbers higher than 60 they are DMS [You do not get more than 60 mins or seconds] and if higher than 60 they are DMD. Hope that has not confused you more Charlie

Mike is on the button I have used bluetac as well. Make sure there are no air pockets Best position as far aft as you can get it just off the keel but not in an area wher the hull is at its thickest. Make sure its upright, to the boats running level. The instructions will say do it with the boat afloat, in fairly deep water and try in a few positions to get the best picture. compare the picture to what you would get with the tranducer direct in the water [hung over the side] I also had one stuck on this way for ages, but after testing on this boat, I epoxied mine to the inside of the hull. Can not really tell from the last two pics but top three are small eyed forth thornback, fifth looks like a spotted. Not sure of the other. Certainly sounds like the forthcoming ray comp will be a blast. well done Jackie and Craig very good angling Charlie

Well put Neal what I usually say is you get out what you are willing to put in. The more you join in the more you will get back. Initially you will get great assistance on a steep learning curve on all of the things neal has covered. Charlie

Thats interesting Kam I thought that hooks would rot out eventually, and to be honest quicker than that. But sometimes trebles are fairly beefy hooks. If you caught it on bait, at least it proves that the fish was still well and feeding. Mike Sounds like there was little wrong with the eel, even with all that steel inside. The two small eels we bought in on the open comp were caught hours earlier and had been in the livebait tub, after weighing they both swam off. Catching and unhooking had obviously not harmed them. Peter I agree I would rather cut the trace of a deep hooked fish than struggle to T Bar it, on the better hooked ones they usually t bar off with little more than the head above water. better to release them and give them a chance than keep them to bring ashore. IMHO Charlie

An interesting thread developing. It would be great to get as many views as possible. I have stated mine. But would like to agree with Mike that if two Kyakers are fishing together, they surely must need to be very close if they are covering each other for safety reasons. Paul I was wondering why you are refraining from comment as in your words " i'll stay out of it as i have a vested interest being a keen yaker myself" IMHO a view from a senior Member of the Committee who is a keen angler and has an interest in boats and Kyaks would be vary valid. Shame to see a fish suffering with a hook left in it. But if bought onboard and T barred off, would it have been just as damaged? I have seen many videos of fishing in Florida and do not see many fish netted onboard. We use bronzed hooks not tinned or stainless, in the hope that any left in a fish rot out quickly. My thoughts are better to let the fish go with a hook in it, than nearly kill it getting the hook out. Mike was the eel with 7 hooks still well ? ie did it fight hard to show it was? It must still have been feeding or it would not have been caught. look forward to readiing other peoples thoughts. Charlie
