  1. One of the Members at the Yacht Club recently bought a 19ft ally boat fitted with 30hp air cooled lister. [at about
  2. Hi All Will picked up a copy of the free paper "Sea Angling News" from Poole Sea Angling centre on Sunday when booking in for the comp. On the way out Dan sat reading the paper and on page 10 found pictures of himself in the published report of our May trip to Alderney. [The paper picked which pictures to use from all the ones emailed over.] If you are interested, the papers are available in most tackle shops free. Charlie
  3. That second one certainly shows why the kill cords are fitted, and should be used. I can not believe some of the comments saying they should have tried to board the boat. Charlie
  4. Nice report Craig. Great to see someone really enjoying his fishing and able to get Jackie just as keen as you are. You may have considered yourself an outsider but you got the slice of luck you deserved, not many take the effort to go out the day before to ensure good bait. Or sleep on the boat overnight to be prepared for the off. I think you flatter me too much, to make it sound like we were the only threat to a 100% fish. We tried hard as ever, but it was your day not ours. Incidently if you were on top of the pout all day, you were certainly in a good spot. Good chance of more eels in that area and some winter cod later. Well done again Charlie
  5. I agree mate we had a cunning plan, Will unloaded kit at the Club for us to load on boat, drove to and parked at the Quay, registered and jumped on the boat at the steps, and off we go. end of day boat to quay, get car, load live fish into car and off to weigh in. Boat to Club clean up and car to cobbs. Worked OK, except for part of quay closed to traffic when we got in. but in hindsight all the extra travel around the quay area at under 6 knots, it would have been better just to go from the Yacht Club and return there, then use the cars. Craig, You are more than welcome mate, I am glad the tips were useful. We stuck to an ambitious plan [Hit or bust] in a big tide, and we missed out. If such big tides are selected again, perhaps our plan would be more conservative. Charlie
  6. Duncan behave man, that does not sound anywhere near hard enough. where will the fun eliment be, no slipping with pliers, doggy rash on skin, swearing as the fishes skin breaks. I have seen several easy ways of doing it, and can do the job a lot better than I once did with nail and pliers but they all seem more tricky than yours Cheers Charlie

    All I need!!

My leg suffers just as much as the rest I am afraid I started off with trilux but was less than impressed, and because the leg had been well primed with several coats of primacon prior to fitting I have used the same coating as the boat did last year. [interspeed extra] I use an additional anode in the water next to the leg to increase the protection when in any marina, this is connected by wires to the leg inside the boat. This year the fouling has been bad, I had it dived on prior to going on holiday in August. He reported there were even some patches of barnicles on the hull. We used the boat a lot during the following seven days, motering on 5 out of 7 days and as far as Guernsey but the leg was already fouling up after a week. Last week I cleaned it again by hand prior to a trip to Southampton, she has been in the marina for only 5 days since we got back and its getting bad again. The antifouling is working though, as areas without [anodes and rubbers] are growing weed as an alarming rate. Keeping legs clean seems to be a full time task, but as Adam says a slimy hull and dirty leg realls slows the boat and puts the fuel consumption up. Adam when you get her out take the covers off the leg, we had growth inside our the first year, it has since been antifouled on the inside of these. Charlie
  8. I would also like to thank the members who stepped forward to take on the organisation for this years open. Martin and Neal you both did a great job. Without you the comp would have been lost. Thanks also to all the rest of the helpers and of course all of the sponsors. I hope that some Members that enjoyed yesterday will put their names forward to help run one next year. It would be good to see some of the work shared out again. Thanks also to the Club which is the major sponsor and too all of the anglers that supported the event. WELL DONE ALL THE WINNERS. Tight lines Charlie
  9. Thanks from me too will help when not having glasses to hand Charlie

    All I need!!

Sorry Adam just spotted this at 2001 so no real help. Bob cleaned the leg on the families day so I am surprised its got so bad, that said mine has really been silting up and we have done some miles recently on family trips. Hope you got it sorted Charlie
  11. I believe we are fishing this to the usual rules Ie any fish that has a recorded specimen weight on what was the NFSA list can be weighed in, [subject to the stated minimum size 50% specimen weight] except the ones noted as banned in the comp rules. The sheet handed out was produced a few years ago as an aid to the anglers fishing NOT as a list of the fish allowed. It has blank spaces to add fish to teh list if required It is down to the competitors and skippers to know the rules, specimen sizes and decide what to bring to the scales. It is a shame to have to weigh in ashore but its an open comp so it can not be run just on trust. I am not on the Sub Committee so this is only how I believe it to be, If Neal or Martin can clarify on here it would help, if not we will ask them in the morning and perhaps others should too. Tight lines Charlie
  12. Anti foul it but be carefull not to do the wheel. any sort of build up on them and they do not work very well ,if at all. Charlie
  13. either get it out of the water, by tilting it up, moving it inside the boat or antifoul it. Mine is inside the boat, shoots through the hull and works fine. So any one would work through a bit of anti-fouling paint. Charlie
  14. I believe that last night it was stated that the scales will close at 1715 anyone in the queue by then would be OK. Please confirm that this is correct. I have no intention to be that late. but if the bridge is up for a long period at 1630 it could not only affect boats getting to Cobbs but also cars on route to the weigh in. Charlie
  15. Mike I hope to unload [if we have fish to weigh] at the Quay or Yacht Club and dash my car to the weigh in. Unless things have changed, as long as you are in the queue for the scales by 1700 you are OK. That should help your cunning plan Charlie
  16. We have used Soda Blasting here. But I think the local chap went bust and the last time a company came down from a good distance away. They did a good job on the boat, but left a mess in the yard and caused a lot of overspray on other boats and cars close by. LLoyd Cordel [uni-Prep] would probably want to have a look and quote. 07930 335243. If it was me I would get Lloyd to take off what he can, then I would do the rest by sanding down, undercoating and antifouling the boat myself. Charlie
  17. Hi Trev I did Great White's when she was about 8 years old. It was done as the old antifoul was flaking more and more each year. I did a small area with a scrapper and thought it was OK By the time I was half way down one side I was bored tired and dirty by half way, I wished I had never started. and by the end of the job I wished I had never built the boat in the first place. I will never do the job by hand again. At work we tend to use UniPrep to slurry wash the old coats off, then its down to finishing around the waterline and smoothing, before undercoat and antifoul. Not cheap at about

  20. Hi Sam From what Mum tells me and you have not said here, is that you have posted this from an internet cafe by the pool, in 46 degrees. I look forward to seeing the pictures of your fish. Dad
  21. Nice report Craig Sorry to read about the lost Bass mate, just TRY and stay calm if you can and you will get the next one. I suspect that a lot of the lost fish may have been tope, but you never know. sounds like you had a busy time, it also sounded like the macs were hard to get last weekend, a lot of Members are reporting the same.
