  1. Nice Boat mate I hope you have as much fun with her and get as many fish on the deck as we did on Great White A great trip to fill you with confidence Charlie
  2. Hi Mike I had not realised that you had been critisised for keeping your big fish I think I asked if it was kept but only out of interest regarding the catch and release trophy and the new Club record Alan I believe the biggest is a double figure fish that won the bass only comp for Alan Mc I am very keen on conservation but do not expect all fish to be returned providing those taken will be used and not wasted/ killed for no purpose Its the anglers choice and we should respect it. Charlie
  3. Nice one Paul Nice to get your hands on a couple of big blondes Charlie
  4. Duncan I know what you mean about the edges, GW were only about 10mm high but still a little awkward, although I think the board was large enough to use the center for tricky jobs. Mike I have seen boards in NZ that had drains running through hoses to the groundbait tubes on the stern, effective but tricky to clean and stow I just chopped the groundbait on mine and let the blood trickle off over the stern. If in shallows i just pushed the groundbait in from the board little and often. down side the bait can follow the same route. I am sure Bob F can remember us losing all our worms that way on a Club comp Charlie
  5. Great news Adam I bet you can not wait to get afloat and looking at the forecast it should not take long, I presume you have many brownie points saved up Glad PMS sorted you out Very tight lines Charlie
  6. Head on the hooks and body in the Pan perhaps
  7. Without any wish to restart an old discussion, wind anyone up or hijack the original thread I think that Paul and Duncan and others have as the saying goes hit the nail on the head. If Members wish to record a catch to keep us all informed of how the general fishing is going that is very welcome. If the fish are to be entered for any of the Club comps including Species trophy or fish of the month or for Club Records then they need to be weighed and witnessed. However if the Member is not interested in trophys for the fish. the weight/size can be estimated and the fish still recorded in the book as an estimated entry for interest only. Perhaps with the constant input of new Members this needs to be noted somewhere [ on the competition list and rules?] so that they can be aware of the policy. Charlie
  8. Nice job Rob Looks durable and very easy to clean I had a wooden version on great white, that had to be kept varnished so it could be cleaned I found having it angled down to drain the blood over the side usefull and a short strip on the top of the board [pack out with washers under ends] that the knife blade slid under kept them on the board and safe. I worry a bit about knives sticking down through slots as the blades extend under the board. When can I order one for Alfresco? Charlie
  9. Great fish Mike as you said one in a lifetime well worth a smile mate
  10. Great fish Mike as you said one in a lifetime well worth a smile mate

  14. Does anyone have any experiance of these reels compared to the original 7000's I had heard that they had a few limitations Dan wants to get an uptider and reel of this size Thanks Charlie
  15. Great report Alan thanks It gives us non fishing Members something to look forward to. 29 plaice is an excellent result without all the other species. and the inshore codling is a very good sign When I lived at Pompey we had some good seasons that started with increased codling numbers in the late summer, so lets hope that this is a good sign I see your luck is still matching your efforts well done Charlie
  16. Hi les Some of the squid jigs come apart so that one of those chemical lights can be put inside, I see from various programs about the giant squid that this is the method used to tempt the big varieties, several lit jigs on a handline Charlie
  17. Have a good one all, very tight lines Hope you all have bad heads from celebrating an England win Charlie
  18. Thanks Guys I will pass these on to my brother Martin Charlie
  19. Nice one Tom well done I hope that someone can offer him a space I would but I have already offered The editor of Sea Fishing News a space and I have to launch the boat of course As for the photo comp I am sure Duncan will be in there and the underwater shot on another post is very impressive[ signs of more competition I think] Charlie
  20. What a great result Once again it looks like preperation and hard work [7th attempt] has brought you just results Out of interest Al how long was the fish? last year the Club decided Club records for sharks would just be recorded that way and I was just wondering how this fish compared. A lovely creature, well worth the 8 hrs passage time Charlie
  21. Hi all My brothers dive club near Bristol are experiancing a lot of bearing failures on their trailers. they are all fitted with the bearing saver kits but they still seem to fail quite regularly, I am sure many Members will have experianced problems but if anyone has found a good solution and can offer advice it would be appreciated Thanks Charlie
  22. Hi Trevor I am sure you will have done much research but have you taken the old prop in to a prop company to see if they can ascertain what it was changed to? they can only change the pitch by a couple of inches at the most. Or failing that have you spoken to Volvo to see if they know the boat/engine and what prop size they calculate it to be When I built Great White I used Tiegnmouth Props, they calculatted what type, size pitch to fit from the boat and engine specs. On launching I was very pleased to see that they had it 100% correct. I am not sure if they still trade but I am sure there are many companies around [Lake engineering 01202 621631, Prop revelutions 01202 681662] that may be able to assist Good luck Charlie
  23. Nice one Paul A great fish and sounds like you had to work hard on the catch and release part, well done. It seems like the summer fish are hanging on. Sam says that someone was catching mackeral on the Quay yesterday Charlie
  24. Well done Its now the hard decision making and searching around part. Hope it goes well and you find a good one Charlie
