As other have said the net is thankfully now the prefered choice on nearly all occasions Congers can be chin gaffed but they need to be well played out so that the aim and gaffing can be done as accuratly as possible so the fish can survive. Out of interest Dan caught a good fish when he was eleven that we netted to land it, but I put the gaff through its chin so he could hold it for a photo. None of the angling magazines would publish the pictures because of the gaff. I am sure a junior with a 55lb eel would have won something without it. Charlie

Stale fuel seems to give smaller engines more problems than larger ones 2 strokes can suffer more if the fuel is left in the bowls of the carbs over winter due to the fuel evaporating and leaving the oil to go hard in the needles and jets which leads to poor starting and running in the spring If it were me I would get as much out as possible and put it in the car, when the engines are winterised make sure the carbs are drained off after the engine is stopped In the spring top the tanks up with fresh fuel on top of whatever is left, and the percentage of old fuel will be low and insignificant. Nice to see that replies are coming. However the answer seems to elaberate the ways in which they are considering quote "controls on the number of fish that can be retained ) for recreational and hobby fisherman" I did not read anything about giving more power to do the same against commercial over fishing by British or Foriegn boats I for one will not be happy if we end up by paying a licence fee just to control/limit catches in the RSA sector. I am sure "managing recreational fisheries" will not save our countries fish stocks Charlie

For interest If a broker sells a boat that is at the Yacht Club and does the viewings here the Club can claim 1% of the sale price from the broker. It comes from their cut, but is seldom claimed as we are a Members Club If it is a private sale at the Club nothing is charged/collected Brokers vary greatly in the amount [%] they want out of the deal, and in how hard they try to sell the boat for you. I know there were some teething problems Two Ways changed from an outboard to this engine a year or so ago and had a problem with starting the engine at times I believe it turned out to be very badly set injectors and its all fixed now. I also believe that they are very pleased with the power and economy they got from the engine on the Cygnus 23 I have the D4 in the new boat so only time afloat will tell how good the engine and DPH drive package is. When talking to a couple of boat builders at the boatshow that had fitted D4's they were pleased with power and economy so I am hopefull Charlie

I bet you bought her the earings and the rod but I know who uses the rod When we decided to build the boat, I bought Wendy a new frying pan, but even though I wrapped up other "Nicer" presents and put them in the box inside the Pan. I was still thretened with the pan if I ever did it again. Well done Dave I am sure it could be identified from the photo by someone If it were weighed I am sure it would be a club record now that we have agreed to expand the Clubs existing lists and sub divide the various species, I can not remember either of the two probable species being on the record list at the moment. Hi all We have one of these for a 6 mtr RIB we were aprehensive about it at first but it is spot on The RIB lines itself up and drives on, simply stop the engine and tilt it up after use and the whole boat and engine is out of the water. To launch its engine down then started and a gentle reverse pulls it off the pontoon The leading edge sinks when the boat goes on but as the boat weight spreads over more floats it gets higher out of the water. The other system is the Hydro hoist , where you dock the boat in a frame over air tanks, when you pump air in, it forces the salt water out and lifts the boat clear of the water. The downside is that you need a berth in the first place and then have to buy the dock system. our costs that would be 2.5 k per yaer for the berth plus about 6k to buy the Hydro hoist in the first place. Graham i have no personal knowledge of the boat But I was not too impressed with the larger redfins when i last looked at a show I am sure one of teh angiling mags had a report on the redfin, I think it was probably the BFM if that helps Charlie

We used to get a few at night out of Poole But I think the sheltered harbour at Portland is more comfortable Charlie

Its a shame that the fisheries can not concentrate on getting rid of the people who are well known for landing "Black Fish" Just because some charter skippers can now offer their punters a bigger platform and more comfort does not mean they are catching more than anglers on a 35ft boat I am sure that many in the fisheries would love the resources to chase the illegal fishing harder, but targetting charter boats appears to be a very "Soft" option. I am very sorry to say that the internal admin at the Yacht Club seems to have gone amok several times Boat show tickets have arrived and the tickets I had booked have been sold This has happened again today As I am going away at the weekend for a week I do not think that i can get the promised tickets prior to going I am not amused But feel it is better to let everyone know now and cancel the ordered tickets than to have you trying to get them from the boys next week when Wendy and I are away.
