  1. Hi and Welcome to the Club Forum I am sure you will not have problem getting crew If you are launching at Poole my eldest son Sam who is 15 is always willing. He is also very good crew. and like his dad tells a few good fishing stories. Charlie
  2. Not the cost to Implement but to police Charlie
  3. Nice one you old Surf dude Charlie
  4. I was watching a program about the Salmon fishing on the tweed last week and due to some expensive measures being implimented over many years and a catch and release policy it is returning to good fishing. We all need to do what we can to badger the politicians into somthing to help us retain our sport It would need driving very hard, be hard to set up and would cost us all, but I am sure it would be worth it Charlie
  5. In the Marine Industry We have to tread gently around who we recomend Adam, as its easy to be accused of having an ulteria motive for doing so. Nothing to say we can not tell our mates who we use though. I use Armada. Charlie
  6. Nice one Fred Your reports just get better. Hover craft or Survey vessel I believe show flashing lights as do helicopters I do not think you should worry about them I think they should worry about you Charlie
  7. Hi Duncan That looks nasty but there are a couple of people we use that will get her sorted for you as we discussed on the phone do not leave it to long because as spring approaches they get very busy Charlie
  8. Duncan If you ned the name of a good local repair guy for the boat PM me or call me at work and I will give you a couple. Charlie
  9. Nice one Paul When is it being fitted? Charlie
  10. Now Trevor You know thats not what I meant With the frustration of waiting for the new one, I fancy wetting a line soon Moaning at boat builders is atrting to P me off. How about a trip to test the net Paul??????????????? Charlie

    Tides

Reg I think as Kam suggests that you ought to consider what your target fish are and how you want to fish for them Then look at the time and size of tides Drifting for Bass is generally considered to be best on Spring tides anchoring the deeper banks and wrecks easier on neaps just to add to that Poole Harbour has an unusual double high between each low water. to be exact on tides at Poole look at local info. and work it out from the stated LW time. Even though our tide range here is not huge we do get a decent run on the tide for example the waters you mention off of Swanage, west of anvil point and out from the lighthouse are good areas for fish at that time of year. But you will not fish them at anchor in the middle of a large tide. 2lb lead may just hold bottom but a 20lb + Blonde Ray would be very hard to get to the boat The boat slip at Swanage is steep so most boats launch at Poole and motor around I have picked the 17th September for our Club flatfish/Ray comp because its a small tide and we can get plenty of time at anchor. I am afraid you would not be able to enter but you would have plenty of boats to escort you if you are around that day. I hope that helps your planning Charlie
  12. Definatly looks like you need a bigger boat for that net mate. Charlie
  13. Ref the anchor It should hold Pal O Mine,I have no problem holding Great White on one. Mine are made using ether solid Bar for the body or tube filled with lead to give them a bit more weight. They do tend to be best used anchored straight into the rough, or the uptide end of a long wreck. I usually rig mine with only a short length of chain as a rubbing end for the rope. If you use your normal chain it sinks faster than the grapnel and can lasoo the wreckage When motoring out if they are stuck your boat will easily straighten the wires. I then use a short length of tube to reset them like a fix nosed uptide lead. I can take a photo of mine if you want to see how they are made, I leave them with the wires in line with the body untill they are used as they are easier to stow. But as someone else said they do rust, so I chuck a bit of paint on the new ones to slow that down a bit to prtect the boat Charlie
  14. Hi all Duncan is right over prop an engine and the revs will be low as others have said I" of prop is usually about 200RPM but running a prop that is stopping you getting within 200 RPM of the stated Max RPM for the engine not good. being able to get the correct revs but not using all that you have available is much better for the engine. You have stated that a prop change has made a big diifferance I suggest try another prop. Charlie
  15. Hi Paul I should have checked it first Can you add the second page with the other events on it Ie Burnham dates, boat jumble , harbour socials etc cheers Charlie
  16. Thanks for adding the fixtures Paul I hope that we have selected a range of tides and avoided the periods when the partners require us to be in attendance Please support the Club comps guys and girls and come along to the get togethers as well tight lines for 2006 Charlie
  17. Paul Is it now possible for me to aknowledge receipt of catch reports to the sender or will it still just send them to you? Nice work mate Charlie
  18. No shortage of bait fish there then I think he needs an umbrella Nice one Charlie
  19. Hi Jake Welcome to the Forum As my son Sam said what a lovely Island you live on. I have been there many times working. But never managed too much serious fishing. except one very good wreck trip. A local contact could be very usefull in the future, as we also enjoy our Conger fishing. I am sure we will try some Salt-X when the new boat starts to get wet. and expect others will try it before then. Tight Lines Charlie
  20. Wow The fish strikes back
  21. Thanks Tom We may well come over for a chat and a glass Have a busy show Charlie
  22. Hi Gordon No they do not need to be calibrated for our comps but as others have said please take the lowest steady reading if the boats a bit bouncy. If the fish is to be eaten weigh it again on your return ashore best of luck tomorrow and next week with the flounder Please contact me with any fish you would like recorded Charlie
  23. Hi Tom When the new boat is up and running I would like to join you on a run out to those wrecks, two's company and all that. Please record your best fish, and Chris's if he has joined They are very good fish and on Par with the best for 2005 well done Not usual to see teeth marks in a bait that has been "congered" they usually apear more crushed and chewed I would think that ling may be a good bet, but there are still a few tope about in the winter. Have a good show Charlie
  24. Hi Paul Nice to see you out there today We decided that dispite the big tide we would try for a Cod today and give the wrecks a miss but after dozens of dogs a few whiting and loads of pout we decided to move the the wreck by you. for the last 90 mins or so I thnk you were nearer than us because in the hour after you left we had just a few small pout and whiting and Sam had a spotted Ray of 2lb 13oz Lovely Day to be out, the rods were very busy but not big fish Charlie
