Thats it in a nutshell Adam Decisions Decisions After a lot of miles in the car and at sea we have made ours and gone for a 30ft Offshore Pro Charter on a stern drive of about 240hp, she will have enough room in the cabin for all that we need to go away on her , plus of course plenty of room on deck I have put on a photo of me by a simular boat in Weymouth, but ours will be white A lot more hours and a heap of work will be involved fitting her out but I am afraid a fully fitted boat would not be in budget. So it was build another one or stick with the present one. The Great White has been a great boat, she can take any weather and is very economic to run and maintain but we have outgrown her now the boys are so big. I will be sad to see her go after getting so much fun and more than a few fish on her. Charlie

Hi Kam I wish you good luck with the sale at that price she should soon be gone. I too am about to put the boat on the market, but in my case I will be getting a bigger one so that the boys and I stop bouncing off each other, they have just outgrown the Boat. Great thread everyone all the views seem to have conservation as the main priority with an underlying view that it is still down to the individual or his skipper as to wether the fish is retained. Its nice to see that where possible anglers were trying to keep even the biggest fish alive and attempted to return them. I am sure will will get time chatting this over after the meeting tomorrow. Hi all Nice to see that as we all recover from a long day the comments are all so positive after a very busy and enjoyable day yesterday, we can all reflect on the events of the day. What a superb turnout, Thanks to all who fished and especially the Ladies that got up early in the cold to help out. I would like to join in all of the comments about our numorous and very generous sponsors, they are helping to expand this competition year on year and we all must thank them for their support. On the point that Tom makes on conservation, we as a Club are 100% behind conservation of our sport and the fish that we target. No one more so than my boys and I. However [As Duncan says}on the one comp a year that we run with a weigh in the odd fish taken to the scales I consider to be acceptable. We spent ages yesterday changing the water in my bait tank in the effort to keep the smoothy and Conger alive, but after weighing they would not swim off in the harbour [the LSD did} so they, together with a few pout and another non returnable eel caught on another boat were given to a friend from work to be consumed. That is the first smoothy I have killed in about 18 years so while I was sad to see that we could not return it. I will keep it in perspective , together with 1 conger killed this year out of dozens caught on my boat. On the other point about minimum sizes, we can select a percentage but it must be set well in advance and advertised so that people can decide if they want to fish to these sizes. Adjusting this limit or trying to track it through the day would be impossible and unfair on whoever was trying to do so We know from fishing other comps [our Burnham trail away] that these rules work and conserve fish. But in an Open comp we must set the level at a rate to allow fish to be recorded. Your competition Committee worked hard to get over

Nice one jack and a nice fish Andy For info it would certainly have got you a prize yesterday, at 74.43 % it would have been 10th best roundfish. so maybe next year we will see you both a bit more confident and taking part. we were wandering what you were upto drifting through inshore of us yesterday. Duncan that was exactly what I meant assisting someone in trouble is exactlye what I had in mind Towing someone who is out of fuel would give us somthing to consider, the towing boat would get an allowance but the boat that did not have enough fuel would not. Charlie

hi all just a small bit of advice, the scales will close at 1700 except for those fish in the queue. arrive late and you will not get your fish weighed. Its down to you to calculate the time of return and lines up. Very Very exceptional circumstances may be allowed but do not anticipate any favours. Better to get to the scales early than have a good fish miss the scales Charlie

Simon The strimmer line is certainly of a high diameter but I have no idea of its strength and durability. The heavy traces Sam mentioned are made of commercial longline mono. My supply has now run out so I must source some more anyone know of a good supplier charlie

Hi all Back to the main reason for this topic The boys and I intend to go out in the morning on GW we wil be fishing the comp and hoping for an ellusive cod CU afloat and I will be listening/replying on 6 Charlie

Thanks Tom Perhaps I was being a little light hearted by refering to it as a chat channel. What I should have said was it is one of the few channels you can use to communicate without blocking safety trafic I think we all got the jist though, channel 6 is the VHF channel the club Members tend to communicate on. if we use the correct power I am sure the authorities will not chase us. and as to watt a certain lymington skipper thinks, who gives a ####. You are spot on Martin He was probably talking to other charter boats within 1 watt range [Needles area] and I heard him on the Banks south of Old Harry. I wonder watt setting his radio was on???? Probably why I heard nothing after I responded I expect they both turned their power down to carry on the moaning. Charlie

Well here we go again lets have another try at finishing the series of comps and maybe get out to look how the marks are fishing ready for the 27th The forecast that I have been hoping for for the openm seems to be forecast for this Sunday so lets hope its right and we can all get out. please remember to call Peter or I Hope to see you all afloat. As another note, when we were out on Saturday one of the Charter skippers from lymington was having a moan about "those idiots on the VHF are from that Poole small Boat Club" He was openly accusing us of fishing close together and always using 25 watts of power and drowning out other VHF users. I pointed out to him fairly bluntly that although I was chatting to Frank, it is a chat channel and the two botts were at least 7 miles apart. He went quiet. It may be a good time to remind ourselves that we can be a bit more private by turning the power setting down when we are close together. I am sure the VHF and mobiles will be buzzing on the 27th, lets not be a pain to other boats or give away to much to the charter boys Charlie
