  1. Can't win them all Adam The weather looks good in the week so I am sure you will get one of the mythical C.O.D Tight lines Charlie
  2. No to both Tom Due to the tides, size and time of slack we went South East for a change I think that is the Purbecks in the background. Hope you went to Weymouth early and enjoyed the Calm weather, It got a bit lively when we were on our way in, and we had to slow down a bit. we do not have to do that often in GW. at least the spray cleaned the decks off Three trial runs now, have confirmed that the fuel system is OK, so I am very happy with that Charlie
  3. and another double header I only put a second rod down once, after this fish and nearly losing the rod it went away again. Charlie
  4. Thanks guys here is another of the boys in action at the same time
  5. Hi all After the fuel problems last week , I had decided that if the weather allowed us to we would leave the Flounder behind and go offshore a bit. Flat calm cold and sunny, saw the worms stowed in the hold and the boat heading SE. over an hour later and we tried drifting while the tide was on full ebb no fish so off to another rusty bit. no pollack as the tide eased in went the anchor and great the Congers are hungry I lost one into the wreck then Dan had the first to the boat at 31lb followed by a steady stream of eels for the end of the flood tide as we swung away from the wreck at slack we had the three heaviest of the day. I was playing a fish of about 35lb when my uptider tried to leave the boat, Sam took that one, it was his first experiance of an eel on lighter gear and it gave him a tough time. When it surfaced we saw why, one of the two Hokias was in its dorsal fin . hell of a way to catch a 38lb eel on 20lb braid son. Dan then caught his biggest this year a fine fish of 48lb. he also went on to a total of 8 fish, and is a bit tired now. [ he is after all only 13] and I followed it with one of at least 45lb that came off as I went to swing it onboard by the trace. In total we had a couple of dozen eels but could not quite manage the heaviest of the year. It may have been the last conger trip on Great White but we will be back Charlie
  6. I agree Tom a fine Brace Charlie
  7. Looks like a fine set [Of tackle] to me Who would care what you caught if she had hold of your rod Charlie
  8. Sam Who's Frank?????? Have a good trip Fred Charlie
  9. We are planning to take part But if all is calm and sunny the boat may find itself outside the Harbour instead Charlie
  10. Oh Misses, who did that? Happy Christmas one and all from the Great White crew I hope you all get what you want for Christmas [Plotters, fishy finders, rods etc] No ties and socks But the 40lb Cod is mine Happy New Year and Very tight lines for 2006 Charlie
  11. Funny you are NOT Charlie
  12. You could be right Kam Monkfish or angler fish would fit the bill I think Anglers still turn up on occasions but not often, I have never heard of a local Monk Charlie
  13. Hi Tom It was just a tongue in cheek one about the channel I come from Weston Super Mare and we don't bother pirking You are right about the sprats, when the bay fills with them the Cod are very hard to get, when you get one its stuffed with sprat. but even using sprat straight from a netter on his way in the cod ignore them as hook bait. perhaps a 4" vibro shad fished through the sprats woiuld work, even in that coffee coloured water Charlie
  14. Hi Duncan I may know someone who can help but do not think it will be this side of Xmas. I will ask for you Charlie
  15. Hi Fred and welcome to the Forum Charlie
  16. I seem to remember reading that it was in the deep water behind the isle of wight But I can not remember ever hearing of one landed ether here or when I lived at Pompey. Charlie
  17. I Bet you could not make it work in the Bristol Channel Tom
  18. Hi all I hope that the weather is kind and we can all get out to chase a few flats Charlie
  19. Nice one Trev and of course Ali. its about time you joined so I can record your fish. Especially as you probably et out more than most of the members No more than you deserve mate, for your instant offer of a tow yesterday. Did you get out today in the fog? Charlie
  20. Nice fish mate The sea state looks a treat in the photo Shame Dan was not up tho the trip today, and Sams mocks start tomorrow. But a day spent getting the boat sorted and the Christmas trimmings up will help with the browny points when the new boat arrives Charlie
  21. Daniel was very under the weather today so we called off the trip. After ages waiting for the fog to lift I eventually went down after lunch, 30 mins running at medium revs in gear in the berth while I cleaned up, then a tour of the harbour at 100% RPM, and not even the slightest sign of fuel starvation, so everything crossed that she is now back to full health. I think what Mike is refering to is the diesel bug [MBG I think they call it] that can get into fuel systems. After opening the tank yesterday, for the first time since it was fitted [1991] I was very pleased to see how clean it was, two bits of the offending seal and the odd bit of grit. I treat my fuel with Soltron which seems to have kept it clean. Thanks for the words of advice Charlie
  22. I just wrote a long and elaberate answer ref the fuel problems Went down for tea and the post that was not finished had gone when I came back to the PC, about sums up my day The short version is, that the pick up line was blocked by a short length of rubber seal from a fuel drum lid, how it managed to get into the pipe end first is beyond me. any other way and it would not have blocked the pipe. but its gone now the tank has been drained and wiped clean, system back together and tested alongside. Dan and I hope t give it a proper test tomorrow. Thanks Trevor for the offer of a tow , hope you had a good day. but as I had allready syphoned a bucket full of diesel out of the tank I was able to dis-connect the flexible fuel line [from the lift pump suction] at the filter end and put that end into the bucket. The engine then ran well to get us back to the Yacht Club. Handy tip for those with diesels if you ever get a total blockage at the tank. I have now fitted an access hatch above the fuel tank so I can get to the connections and the tanks small access lid, I hope that cleaning the lines and the tank will cure the snag. At least I know its all clean and free of the Diesel Bug, although draining the tank took ages. I reckon that the Gremlins are showing their displeasure at me selling the boat I hope others had a better Day. Sounds like Tom had a good day, good idea taking the misses to a place with plenty of average size eels. Wendy likes fishing for tope but is not really that keen once they are bigger than about 25lb, the arm wrenching stuff is for me and the boys she says. I WISH Glad Abbie enjoyed it mate, watch she doesn't get too much of a liking for big ones though Charlie
  23. I have checked the two species in question Brill Club Record now 8lb 8oz 2005 Peter Peck 170% Turbot Club record 9lb 6oz 2001 Peter Peck 62.5% Looks like we had better follow Lady Margeret chaps not sure which side of the channel these were caught, perhaps Pete can enlighten us ? I will send an up to date list to webmaster to see if he can update records Charlie
  24. Interesting twist to the original thread perhaps it will get moved soon by admin I have had a look at the records on the site they both seem reachable But I am sure the Brill is far larger now as I know that its been beaten twice by Peter Peck in recent years and is over 8lb I will check at home later Turbot at 9lb 6 is beatable, I believe our Chairman beat that by over 5lb on the charter trip to alderney last year. Charlie
  25. Don't be so mean Duncan let him try in 2006 not much of 2005 left In fact the Brill record has only stood for a couple of months, and trips to alderney should give him a chance of the Turbot. If anything is a quest, a few day trip to the Islands in search of Club records sounds a good one to me. and as Tom has done that before does this make it quest 2 ??? Charlie
