  1. I will drink to that you can only fish to catch, its difficult to ensure that the fish are big when you get them. Charlie
  2. Some nice fish recorded well done Our Day was a bit slower using the new timings we thought we would try to get the two slack periods in, which we did. But I had not seen the amount of wind that we had, in any of the forecasts that I checked. During the slack periods the fishing was difficult to say the least. we had 2 congers 2 tope Dogs pout lots of macs etc But the only Ray was a decent fish that came in the middle of the tide run, it surfaced a long way behind the boat and dived again about 30 yards behind the boat. I could not gain anything on it for a while so eventually had to tighten the drag a bit and give it more muscle. Bad idea made 10 metres then line parted. [30lb braid] Dans 24lb tope had been around the lines earlier so it may have been weakened. Unless it was an undulate it would not have won , but it would have been good to get our only ray onboard. Nice to get so many boats out there trying. Charlie
  3. Paul may see you during tomorrow if Duncan sticks to his plan Coddy Glad you can make it, I have added Sammy to the list Tight lines Charlie

  7. Nice one james I have seen the old wake them up with a wet conger trick once, with a much smaller eel. the sleepy angler was so scared he nearly jumped off of the charter boat. Great catch mate and nice to hear that a lot went back [For Sunday?] Charlie
  8. A really sad event. Perhaps when we are out there next time we will all look at our safety equipment and where it is stored. I believe Eddy may have got trapped while trying to get his lifejackets out for himself and his crew. My thoughts and best wishes to his family and friends Charlie
  9. Just to Clarify You can fish any 7 hr period between 0600 and 1800 Please book in from now to Sat evening, letting me or Peter know who is fishing, on which boat and which time slot you are looking to fish. this is for safety reasons so we need to know times that the boats are out. This comp is a dual comp with two trophy's, one for best specimen Flatfish and the other best specimen Ray. Please report your catch to me promptly after the comp. PLEASE PLEASE Do not phone my home No on Sunday morning, the boys and I will be out fishing [not sure of the time yet] and Wendy will not appreciate being woken up. The weather looks a little damp, but OK to fish Club Waters.I hope that you will be able to get out there. The final decision as too wether you put to sea is down to the skipper of the boat. each boat is to have a skipper and at least one other competent person onboard Have a good day tight lines Charlie
  10. Happy Birthday mate don't get up to anything to mad at your age charlie
  11. Hi specimen I thought that was probably you when I saw the 4 fishing Kayaks this morning from the Yacht Club. I was tempted to grab a RIB and come over to say hello but thought my Boss would wonder what was going on. You certainly had a good day for it. If you launch there again pop over to the Yacht Haven and say hello, I would love to have a closer look at your set ups charlie
  12. This subject always gets a good response Its about personal choice really but the main factor is to have enough scope of rope out, we fish in deep waters with rough bottom and fierce tides so I am sure that the owners of simular boats have given their anchors a good test. if you have had a problem with a bruce it is ether the bottom type or not enough chain to keep the anchor correctly on the sea bed or not having enough rope out. with rope lines you need at least 5 times the depth of water to correctly set an anchor, if you are having problems holding lay out more rope it should dig in. Charlie
  13. At least the second option worked out for youi mike. some nice ballans gather around that corner. thanks for the left over worms, and nice to see you this afternoon charlie
  14. Hi there are several warrior 165 owners in the Club so I will allow them the long answer. But I for one would not use a fishermans type anchor, there are much better patterns than that available at reasonable cost. you may also wish to use a better rope. Please remember that the anchor and warp are an important part of the boats safety equipment, and as such should not be something where anything will do. if you let us know where you fish, depths and on what type of bottom, our advice can be more procise. Charlie
  15. Finally the Harbour master educating Bob a bit
  16. Bob leaving with Rob in tow
  17. Some took the social gathering very seriously at lunch time
  18. Adam chilling
  19. What a great Day, I went behind the island just as the others were getting afloat and managed to find space for us all, out of the wind. So the big anchor went in. Through the course of the day a total of eight Club Boats were involved, with up to six at one time hanging on my anchor I was glad I had put the big one down. Of course some of us got a rod out, but the main aim was a social gathering which was 100% Successful. cold drinks from all directions, teas and coffees from Prodigy and Ginsky, Bacon rolls from Great White and BBQ from Phaeton. As Bob says we must repeat this type of thing perhaps a little earlier next summer Wendy Sam Dan and I had a great time. Thanks Adam for trusting Sam to drive your boat while you were in the ringo and to put it back alongside the rest of the pack. He really enjoyed it especially when the wake from your own boat and Bobs acceleration ejected you out of the ringo. Nice to wander from boat to boat chatting about the boats and their equipment, on a nice warm and sunny day, even the sea was nice and warm, Lovely It was mentioned that the day was probably even better for the fact that although it was warm and sunny it was also to windy for a fishing trip, so none of us were thinking we would have been better off further offshore. Great Day Thanks to all that took part and Thanks to those who had the idea
  20. I will pass on your comments to the owner of the company when I see him on his boat at Parkstone next week. I am sure he may get people to check more regularly. Charlie
  21. The other photo
  22. Peter is spot on they must be really well played out prior to a gentle chin gaffing or they spin and get well damaged my net is not really deep enough but I have had 60lb eels in it, keep them in the net for a photo and weighing and they will not trash the boat. we netted Dans 55lb fish last year, then chin gaffed it so he could hold it up. I will try and attach a photo. Charlie
  23. Paul which side of anvil point is castle point matey Charlie Hope to see the rest of you out there I need to give the engine a longer run, and I can look at the wiring for the anchor light around there Charlie
  24. A better specimen, but not the species that Sam really wanted on the trip
