Thanks Paul I don't know where it came from but it came and it got opened. when I updated my virus checker it detected the worm virus on my home PC. Thanks to your help and using the link above it has now been removed. I was showing 39 files affected even after the Anti Virus had healed the PC, but now with your help it is showing 0. Cheers mate, get you a cold one at the AGM Charlie. If any of the Members have had email from my PC recently beware of one with shower zip mentioned. I would advise running a Virus Scan. Thats how I checked and found I had the Ba****d. at least its gone now

Hi all, Old VHF Aqua Marine 5600,[i Think] loud and clear but getting old now. MLR DGPS very good has only dropped out [lost signal] once in 4 years Lowrance GMap5000c Color Plotter, only used on one trip since picked up at Boat show but very impressed. Lowrance 105dfc color sounder, not yet used, fitted since boat came out [new in box. ] Looking forward to testing when the boat gets launched. AM FM car stereo All of these are removed for security after every trip. Charlie

Hi Colin It is still early but nice to see someone is out trying. Let me know when you find them. so far only 1 fish reported this month, so the fish of the Month trophy is an easy target. Its a good time to get used to all the bits on the new boat and look at a few Numbers, thats what I intend to do when I get afloat again. Charlie

It gets more interesting this subject. it will be good to see which ones are good. Once you have picked one and bought it do not do as I did. I was rigging every trip while awaiting annual maintenance to fit it properly. Then at the end of a trip I left it up on the plastic Ties, after that it was left up and the permenent fitting got forgotten. I expect the Ultra Violet got to the plastic, and it dissapeard in a gale. Only one person to blame, ME very expensive bit of kit to chuck away. Charlie

Hi all, A while ago I lost the blipper reflector off of the cabin roof in a gale.[ boat on mooring] I was going to replace it with one of the cylinder type that are smaller and much cheaper, untill I read a review in one of the yachty mags that said they were very little use, in fact the old type were much more effieciant. I have yet to replace mine so will be interested in your views, we should all have one [if we venture out among the ferrys as we all do]. Charlie

Nice chart You can see the location of the slip and ECA, and can see why there is a run of tide on the slip. a lot of water passes that way in/out of Langstone harbour Easy to see the Blocks from the fort to the shore and the west winner, drifting between the two is usually good. fishing the outer end of the east winner at anchor, with Hermits caught in the same place in a trap or net is also worth a go. Bob that is where that large catch of codling [i showed you the photo of at the last meeting] came from. I probably still have paper charts of the area they are old now, but if someone wants to borrow one call me and I will try and locate in the attic. Tight lines Charlie

Hi Mark Sorry to hear that the new boat has been attacked before you have even had her out fishing. I am sure the staff at Cobbs are doing all they can to help. Have you reported it to the Marine Police? they are always very interested in near misses when they occur. Call me at work/mobile and I will give you the numbers and email addresses to use. They also chase up any CCTV that may cover Cobbs at the time of the incident. The bastards were obviously disturbed and fled, so at least you still have her. Wheel Clamps are unfortunatly not much of a deterent. Which is why I take the toys off my boat. Perhaps to much has been said about your new boat on the site, anyone can log in as a guest I think. My thoughts for you 1. Throw somthing to the mate in the water that he can use to stay afloat Lifering with a throw cord would be good as you can tow him to the boat and the only drama would be getting a wet adult back onboard. an unatched lifering or a lifejacket would do as a second choice even better if it had a light or smoke attached 2. the inner end of my anchor warp has a buoy on it just big enough not to pass through the alderney ring so all I have to do is undo the rope and let all my line pay out and i am away 3. Press MOB on GPS while starting engine, so I come back to my anchor warp later 4. Cut the lines away [ Mate more valuable and he can pay later if you are that mean] 5. Call coast guard to get them on standby and head of down tide at about 2.5 knots, all boat lights on. if I could not see him I would track about 50 m off the drift line and stop every couple of minutes to yell and listen. If you can not see him or hear him within a couple of minutes get the coastguard out and let anyone else in the area know to get some help. I do not like the idea of being tethered to the boat, and at night would have a light on or a torch in my pocket. At work we use lifjackets with lights that come on when immeresed in salt water I have meant to fit them to mine on the boat but have not done so yet. I also have a strobe light like divers use that has a velcro strp that goes around your arm. this could be quickly attached to the lifring before you throw it at least your mate could see where to swim to and you or a hellicopter can see it from about a mile away. Hi All best of luck with your trip next week. I hope that there is an early run on the flatfish for you. I used to be a Member of Southsea angling club and used the public slip next to the compound a lot. it launches into the channel between Eastney and Hayling island so although it is a good slip it does get a swell on it in a southerly and also has plenty of tide, so take care to avoid launcing in the main part of the tide. I would suggest using a length of stout rope between car and trailer to keep your cars well up the slipway away from any shingle. It gets scarry when the wheels lose their grip.!!!! If you are launching/ recovering at HW there is another slipway on the other side of the road [Opposite ECA] that is much more sheltered and has no tidal flow to worry about. I can not remember how many hours either side of LW it can be used but one of the locals would be able to. Tight lines Charlie

I have spent a lot of time working around the Channel Islands with the Navy over a 5 year period. I thought it would be a source of cheap "Vat Free" tackle but because of the limited demand and the shipping cost it generally is not the case. Alderney as one of the smaller islands and thus has very limited shopping. and as you will not be there during the day the opertunitys to shop would be limited. I have not been for a few years now but do not think it will have changed much. Peter would know I am sure. I would advise buying what you want if you can before you go from a large mail order outlet here or from US. Charlie

No need to shout Peter, I have had 4 encounters with Divers in the last 18 months all on wrecks. one team dived the other end of the sky but the others just ignored us. I have even had them ask if they could go down my anchor warp to get them uptide of the wreck. But as a lot of my numbers came from divers I do not mean to slag them all off just pass to others how I find it. Kyarra, Start, Sky, Dagmar, Derna are well inshore all can fish but are also well dived. except at this time of year and middle of night. Although I have had divers with night lights dive on one wreck I was on hours after dark. Charlie

The article and some intersesting views on this subject. The inshore wrecks do hold quite a few conger that would beat the Club record. But remember that we tend to share them with divers during the warmer seasons and at slack water in daylight. there is nothing that will stop a wreck fishing for conger like a boat load of divers arriving at the wreck to dive at slack. and the wreck will not fish for a long period after they have gone. I used to get around this problem in a few ways: 1. Fish when the water is to cold for divers 2. Fish at night when it has been dark for several hours or very early in the morning 3. Fish a very small tide on a wreck for a few hours before slack tide and hope that the divers have the decency to move to another wreck when they arrive [ Fat Chance ] These do not always work but can give anglers who are not able or do not want to go out 20 miles a chance of some good sport. The downside is: 1. Hard to get settled weather in winter 2. Fishing is harder at night, and so is getting the eel to the net or if you have to the gaff. [ If the fight has not been as good as you thought, try shining a light at a good eel at night, but hold on to the rod and set the clutch, they get a bit excitable] 3. Not much chance of divers moving to leave you fishing, but fishing down to slack water can be productive and divers do sometimes try and stay at the other end of a wreck which can sometimes move the eels your way [not Often] I will try and hook out a couple of photo's and scan them in Bob. It may also be good to mention the fact that the Conger is one of only a few species that has its own fan Club The British Conger Club is a well established Club based around the Plymouth area, you have to qualify to join so that gives it a little extra. 25lb shore, 30lb reef and 40lb wreck are the qualifying weights They hold there own competitions and have a very impressive set of Trophies. Several of our Members are or were Members and have enjoyed some good fishing with some very good anglers and boats at their Championships over the years. Sadly with the demise of the Plymouth charter fleet we have stopped going. I will see if I can find any photo's Tight lines Charlie

I have found Stren to be an excellent line, although I now use braid insteadon my reels. Stren is a very nice line for long traces for pollack etc on the drift. nice soft and supple. I like Fireline but when I change will probably go for whiplash. Charlie
