  5. Morning All, I have now put together the rules and layout for the competition and I hope most will agree that this is an improved version of last year, if you can all please have a look at the attached and add to the spreadsheet of who's boat you will be fishing on for each leg, can I ask that people who have offered there boats indicate how many they are willing to take so we can get the kids fishing with different groups to add some variety to it, the ultimate goal for this competition is to gain a group of 20 plus children who all want to go fishing and not sit at home, easily achieved if they all know each other and not stick with one or two they already know, if anyone is willing to donate prizes that would be a great help, I was overwhelmed with the generosity of this club last year and hoping it will continue with this competition, if anyone has any issues with the format or is struggling to find a boat for the day, let me know last thing, last year we held the BBQ at my house (cue the pyrotechnic jokes from Charlie and kev) however this year I have moved further afield to bovington, I am happy to run the BBQ again however I appreciate it is further afield, can I have opinions if people are happy with this location or can suggest other locations in Poole regards, Sam.
  6. Hi Mick, if it doesn't leak I might take it off your hands, I had a small one before but always left big puddles underneath, would like one in the garage as freezer in the house fills up too quickly regards, sam

  9. Morning Guys, well thats the junior comps over for another year and i am so glad that the weather gods have been kind to us on both competitions. it is so nice to see so many children becoming interested in a decent hobbie, as most of you have said computers seem to rule there lives now. i would first like to thank everyone who donated prizes, the club for the trophies/hats, all the skippers for putting the effort in to take everyone fishing and mum and eileen for spending all day preparing the wonderful BBQ. just for the record i was not in charge of the bbq when it went up in flames (last time my mate gets left with fire) so after both days there has been lots of variety caught, i worked out after looking at everyones results we had a total of 15 different species, which is very impressive. i never thought i would see my dad so excited over catching different wrasse, (conger trip needed to snap him out of it) so the final results as follows Best specimen 1st- Jayden lesser spotted dogfish 1lb 8oz 52% 2nd- Reuben small eyed ray 5lb 8oz 50% 3rd- Jacob Pout 1lb 8oz 48% Largest Fish- Reuben small eyed ray 5Lb 8oz Highest species count Jayden 10 Bradley 7 Jacob 7 Sam A 5 Dom A 4 Daniel 4 Thomas 3 Phoebe extra prize for attending Best Girl- Macey 5 species 2nd Girl - Tamzin 3 species As you can see i carried on the prizes alot more than i was going to at first, everyone has been so generous with prizes and the kids put so much effort in, i decided that they all deserved a bit extra. I hope that everyone enjoyed the two days fishing and all the children now at least have some sort of interest in fishing, from the sounds of it most of them are already planning there next trips. I have picked up some good points of how to improve this competition and will see what next year brings to organising this again. please can you all add photos of your days out fishing and of the prize giving and i will put a report together to send off to the magazines, thanks for all your support, tight lines sam

Alfresco- jayden, sam and dom Awol- daniel and macey wight magic 2- Jacob, Jack Marlin- Bradley any more or changes please let me know. the bbq/presentation will be at 1600 on sunday, gives me chance to get home and sorted before you all arrive, please give me an idea of family members coming with you so i have enough food. plenty of room at our place for family, always nice to get everyone together and support the kids. my address is the bungalow 6 saint michaels road wareham dorset bh20 4qu any questions or anything i have missed please shout now cheers sam

  13. Hi Guys, finally got round to getting the results together for the first competition, apologies for the time delay, i actually had to do some work this week and not just day dream about fishing. please remember that the final results/ prize table will be done over both competitions, results for the first comp are as follows: Best Specimen: 1st reuben small eyed ray 5lb 8oz 50% 2nd jacob mackeral 15oz 46.88 % 3rd Dan mackeral 13.5 oz 42.2% 4th tamzin mackeral 12oz 37.5% joint 5th jayden and thomas mackeral 10oz 31.25% number of species: Joint 1st reuben, jacob and tamzin on 3 joint 2nd jayden and macey on 2 joint 3rd dan and thomas on 1 largest fish caught: currently in first place is reuben with his small eyed ray. well done to all the kids who fished and especially to reuben on his first ever trip, number one in all 3, i know reuben cannot fish the second competition but is going to take some beating on the 24th of august. thanks for all your support sam
  14. Hi guys Thanks for the pictures and looks like everyone enjoyed. Apologies Adam didn't see your post from Friday. The reason 3 hooks one rod was introduced was to try and keep the kids focus on one rod and not several. Jay den is a novice as only been twice proper fishing and this idea worked well last time I took him. The other reason was this kept 3 hook feathers in the competition. Which looked like all the children enjoyed catching mackerel. Anyway if I run this comp again next year, which is more than likely, already gained a few tweaks to the rules from today. It was a slow day on reel magic today. Plenty of mackerel caught by both Jacob and Jay den. Followed by fun on the bream and a bonus smooth hound to Jacob. Both boys are already keen for the next one in august. And a big thanks to Dave for the use of reel magic. She is a beauty Dave. I will put the leader board up in the morning, looking forward to the next one already. Now got to earn the brownie points so Eileen will set the barbie up whilst we fish, wish me luck. Once again thanks for everyone who fished. I hope this is something that will grow and keep the children keen in something we all love. Photos will follow when I can work out how to get them from my phone Cheers Sam
  15. Hi guys. Weather looks good for Sunday. So competition is on. Fishing 9 till 1, one rod max 3 hooks. All fish and photos to be put on this post and will work it out from there. Fishing area will be swanage bay. Plenty of variety. And should hopefully be nice and calm. The more fish and photos we can get the better See you on the water. Sam
  16. Hi Brian. Yeah don't worry that has all been taken into consideration and also the age of some of the kids. Safety will be the biggest priority on the day. Sam
  17. Hi Guys, getting close to the date now and I hope everyone is looking forward to the first one on sunday. as it stands I have a 11 juniors on the list, if there is anymore out there, they are more than welcome. I will keep a close eye on the weather through the week and hope to make an easy decision on Thursday. we will be fishing commodore rules as I think this is a nice way of keeping all the kids together, also it will probably make it nice and competitive. once the weather has been confirmed, I can then decide the best place for the boats to head. unfortunately after a great weekend in france, alfresco is now out of action, some horrible noises coming from the leg whilst turning, so alfresco will now be coming out the water for further investigation. dave has very kindly offered the use of reel magic for the day, thanks dave. so everyone who was due to fish on alfresco in the first comp will now be on reel magic. this now makes reel magic the lead boat for commodore rules, any problems please don't hesitate to ask and hopefully the weather will be in our favour cheers sam
  18. Thanks for the feedback guys. I like the idea of commodore rules (never knew it was called that) Kev you can tell Jacob he is not the only one who hasn't been wreck fishing this year, my side winders are collecting dust. If there is anymore juniors out there, would be great to get some more. Cheers Sam
  19. Hi Guys just a quick update, After speaking to Tony earlier i just wanted to put up a list of prizes that i currently have for the kids, so far: Rod and reel for first place donated by the club Rod donated by nigel Rod donated by will pink rod for the girls donated by malcolm Reel donated by dad £30 tackle voucher donated by jim 5 sets of tackle vouchers and terminal tackle donated by alan. Key rings and stickers donated by rob. We also have: trophies for all juniors donated by the club, Club baseball caps donated by the club, Barbecue payed for by the club, if there is anything else members can think of please let me know, also spread the word to other members with children/grandchildren with this prize table it would be great to have more juniors. One thing i forget to say in the first post and after discussing with dad, i am going to keep the prizes as one prize per junior, so if one junior wins first place they cannot win heaviest fish and so forth, i think this gives some of the more novice/younger juniors a fighting chance. thanks again for all the support, if this is a success it could be the first of many more. cheers sam
  20. Good point Chris, always helpful to tell people when It is. The dates are 27th July and 24th August. Cheers Sam
  21. Hi Guys, apologies for not making the meeting last night, but i have spoke to dad and he said there were a few questions that had been asked. currently the below juniors have been entered into the competition, is there anymore out there that would still like to enter?, also any of the skippers entered with only one or two juniors willing to take an extra one if someone hasnt got a boat to fish from. 1st competition 27th July Alfresco- jayden, jacob and jack allen Awol- Daniel and Macey Megabyte- Tamzin and Thomas JV - Reuben 2nd Competition 24th August Alfresco- jayden, sam and dom Awol- daniel and macey Megabyte- Tamzin and thomas wight magic 2- Jacob, Jack Marlin- Bradley JV - Reuben so after talking to brian and tony ref prizes, the club has agreed to fund the first prize for the competition and also agreed to fund the bbq after the second day out. thank you to everyone who has supported this with donating prizes. tony has also suggested sourcing trophies for the juniors, which i strongly agree with, i know jayden would love a trophy on his shelf. the idea of the two days is to give the maximum time on the water for the juniors, to answer brians question the two days add up to one competition, so the prizes will be awarded after the second day out at the barbecue. i believe chris voiced a concern about all the juniors recieving something for there efforts, this was my idea from day one, there will be a small prize for all juniors entered, and then more significant prizes for the winning fish. what are peoples thoughts on the club maybe supplying poole bay baseball caps or something. competition rules: keep it simple i think is the best way, both days will be a 4 hour fishing time, starting at 0900 and finishing at 1300, i think this is long enough for the attention span of the younger members, this way both days add up to a full days fishing. one rod, 3 hooks max per junior. all fish entered in the competition to be weighed on board, no need to kill them all just for a weigh in. i would like it if all fish caught could be photographed with the junior angler, i would like to do a write up after for the magazines and the club. prizes/trophies will be awarded after the second competition at the barbecue at my house. i think it would be nice for all familys of the juniors to be at the barbecue, plenty of room at our place. the competition prizes will be awarded as follows after the two days, 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the best specimen, largest fish over the two days, highest number of species caught. i think this set up covers all aspects which juniors enjoy. thank you for taking the time to support this as it is important to me that my boys grow up loving the sport that i do, just like my dad did with me. anything i have missed or any questions please dont hesitate to ask. now its down to the weather gods. tight lines sam
