Rob Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Does she really ride bow high? It means the previous owner didn't have enough leads!! Quote
Paul D Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Nice looking boat Adam, you've come a long way since Tara ! Quote
Steve S Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 How about 300 kg what was it all for? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk Quote
duncan Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Higher ! Higher !! yes, she will sit higher in the water Alun ballast on a planning motorboat is worse than redundant, and with the price of fuel even drastic solutions will be economical very quickly Quote
Maverick Martin Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 each bag of sand is approximately 20-25kg Quote
alun j. Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 More like 30 Kg ....as it was [very] wet ! Adam found more than he expected as he delved in the compartments.....it seemed MAD !! Quote
Steve S Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 MAD indeed, I assume the guy just did not understand, or maybe he only went at displacement speeds.... If there are balance problems trim tabs are the way to go. Quote
great white Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Could not understand why you would build a planning boat Fit a very expensive engine and leg package , that has a great power to weight ratio Then treat the boat like a canal boat and fill it with ballast Perhaps they did not go far and his crew wanted to dampen her action on the water down when afloat Positive side, the boat went well on Sea trial before delivery, it should fly now Quote
Adam F Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 Try 800kg of sand which was wet so best part of a ton!!! The sea trial after offloading saw her nearly 3 knots quicker! The steering was a bit hit and miss until I looked at it today... And managed to get a litre of hydraulic fluid in the system! Much better pushing that around than air! niggle and Stuie 2 Quote

alun j. Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 She dwarfs the family !!........even in the distance !! Did they climb aboard?? [it's a long way up.........and I think Reub could slide out through the scuppers !!] Quote
Steve S Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Honey, somebody shrunk the family! Try 800kg of sand which was wet so best part of a ton!!!The sea trial after offloading saw her nearly 3 knots quicker! The steering was a bit hit and miss until I looked at it today... And managed to get a litre of hydraulic fluid in the system! Much better pushing that around than air! Oh the joys of buying a second hand boat, lots of surprises, many more to come probably. Quote
Adam F Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 There are loads but fortunately we plan a total refit from scratch over the winter so all the crap bits will go and in its place will be a proper job, decent kit fitted properly. We knew that when we bought her. Whilst I'm looking forward to using her over the summer, I'm also looking forward to the winter refit. It will be an exciting project to follow, and like JV1 I'll try and track the progress on here. Quote
lady jane Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Congratulations on your new boat. Andy Quote
Duncan F (bathclaret) Posted May 11, 2014 Report Posted May 11, 2014 Just think, somewhere near Brixham there's a guy down the builder's merchants buying a load of sand as ballast for his new (smaller) JV :-)Congratulations on the new boat Adam Duncan Martin.C, Steve S and nightingale300 3 Quote
