So after years of using this set up and reading the comments above about the rope getting twisted around my anchor line, (which had never happened to me), I had it happen on Wednesday and it was a bit of a pain in the proverbial!

Β

When I backed up to see where the buoy was, I noticed it was twisted round the anchor line about 5 or 6 times.

Β

I have since removed the rope between the buoy and the ring.Β

Our Alderney retrieves all went awry on Wednesday too. The wind over tide thing was making everything just align unpredictably.

During my last visit I’ve had complete success with the Alderney set up on the retrieval proves .. however I keep on snapping the breakaway tie wraps off .. I’m not sure if this is due to anchor releases on the sea floor or going through the ring and snapping them or just cheap things from Amazon… not sure how you’d select good quality tie wraps? Im contemplating forgetting the tie wraps completely as been reading up that if you go backwards over a trapped anchor it will invariably free itself anyway and it can be dangerous having an anchor that can release due to tie wraps breaking???Β

Don't change the anchor set up, change the cable ties. I was out a couple of weeks ago and didn't have any ties so I used some 100lb line. It worked fine.Β

Ive now got ties on it again.Β

100% agree with Graham

Unless you can afford to keep replacing anchors

Some cable ties online seem to have a strength rating. choose larger and stronger ones. I use three of a size that I can just get tree through the chain link.
