Mike Fox Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Guess we're first back - took a guest out who was rather unwell in the Easterly swell, so we just managed a couple of hours. We had a dozen or so bream in that time, best: Carol Fox - 1lb 7oz George Fox 1lb 7 oz Mike Fox 1lb 3oz We all lost fish that were closer to 2lb, but definitely no monsters today. Good to see Carol and George in joint first place, even if fleetingly. Mike Quote
alun j. Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 After an early start, Gastronaught also back in before all the water ran out of Christchurch Harbour. At 3 pm, it was poring out causing some lively conditions over the Bar with the Easterly breeze pushing against it !! Paul and I had a good day...... esp. in the morning , with a steady stream of fish, fighting well on light tackle in the tideflow. Most went back , with just a few 2 lb size males into the box. Paul led most of the morning, with one of 2 lb. 1 oz.......but at coffee time [usual effect!], mine screams off and coffee is cold when a big fat female came to the net. Weighed in at 3 lb. 10 oz, photo taken and slipped back in. My next best , a blue boy at 2 lb. 6 oz, wasn't so fortunate ! Hope others did [almost!] as well !!...... lots of boats around us; a few were catching, but they seemed mostly smalll fish. How were things further west ? Alun. Quote
Graham Nash Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Although not actually in the competition, I fished just off Swanage bay alongside about 16 other boats, I only managed one bream just over 1 1/2lb but fished an hour or so inside poole harbour while waiting for enough water to get back on the trailor and caught 2 bass, one 5 1/2lb (which is on my plate tonight) and one at 9lb (which went back) Quote
Maverick Martin Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Well done Alun looks like you are in the driving seat. And well done Graham for returning such a nice Bass never mind I'll get it next week BTW why not join the club proper? it doesn't cost a lot and the benefits are great. Charlie Annear, Dean and myself went out on Awol today. Fished both the club and Poole Dolphins open but not so lucky in either I'm afraid First drop for me and a small male bream that got me thinking yesss were in for a good day but not so good, a very slow day largest bream going to Dean at 2lb 9oz with me catching one at 2lb 7oz. Lost a few that felt decent fish but we will never know how big All in all a very pleasurable day afloat and I'm glad the weather held off to leave us in pleasant sunshine and bearable winds. Good to hear that PBSBAC had a good showing in the Poole Dolphins open comp results even if Awol didn't get on the score sheet plus a special mention for Jackie the only female scorer and a member of PBSBAC ....well done girl Martin Quote
fisherman1055 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Serenity went out at 7:30am with myself and Paul Dore and made a leisurely journey to just off Dancing Ledge, and joined the car park Paul made a rapid start with a Garfish and Dogfish within minutes of arriving. Everything slowed down then and nothing happened for a couple of hours. Suddenly my rod bent over and i landed a bream of 2lb 14 oz. Withe no further action for over an hour we got bored and made our way to Ballad and met Whistler, Peter Russell informed us that it had been fishing well until just before we arrived. It was very quiet for about another hour and suddenly bream started coming in reasonable numbers, if not very large, and we had a good couple of hours fun before coming home. Tony Deavin Quote

Paul J Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 And well done Graham for returning such a nice Bass Very well done Graham PJ Quote
Neal Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 We joined the Poole Bream Comp and with reports that further west wasn't fishing!!(somebody lied) - we went to join a few of the club boats in Christchurch Ledge. Went close to Alun Jones - he who knows where the fish are! A relatively slow start but after re-anchoring a steady sream of 1 1/2 - 2lb Bream came aboard - all males except one spawning female which went straight back. Kept a couple each - slipped the rest back to get bigger for next year. Added a couple of species to the tally - a very nice day out and no lost rods!!! Neal Quote
Gas Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Jackie had her best ever day. Just the two of us on Abode11 i had three bites all day one turned out to be a spider crab Jackie had 9 Bream all over 2lb best going to 3.1 1/4 which she took 5th place and bagged a new rod. Something very wrong, This is the second time ive lost to the females in my house Chelsea two years ago won under fifteens Cobbs comp and Jackie wooped my A"" big time on Sunday. don't think i will ever live this one down Quote
reb Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Went out to Ballard a bit later than most but luckily got on to my usual spot and into Bream immediately. Mike had a few before I got going then I had one which led the boat weight for some time. All the bream were around the 2lb mark which was nice. Most went back but we kept four for the pan When it quietened down we went over to the Patch where I had heard of 3lbers being caught but all that happened was Mike hooking a Starry on his bream gear - went like a train For the record the best bream of the day were:- Mike Norman 2lb 8oz Richard Biggs 2lb 7oz There must be a rule somewhere that says crew can't better the captain : Cheers Richard Quote
Brian Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 ......................... There must be a rule somewhere that says crew can't better the captain : Cheers Richard There ought to be a rule that states all fish count as caught by the skipper, after all he's the one who put the bait in the right place, by putting the boat there. Wight Magic Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I agree we also fished both comps jim & myself also 2 non members Lee & Paul We headed west it started ok got a few dogfish Jim then got a spotted ray 3lb 10oz then the wind beat the tide so it went dead re anchored Paul & Lee started to get some bream upto 1lb but still no bream for Jim & i the tide started to rip past so a quick move a little closer in for the last hour Lee was the first in a bream of 2lb 5oz then Paul got a cracker 3lb 8 1/4 oz which was the 2nd heavest in the poole dolphins comp a slow day but a good day Dave Quote
Jim Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 A cracking day out Dave. Thanks Mate. I may not have had any Bream, But I've never had a Dogfish or Spotted Ray before _ so they were " Personal Bests " And I've caught something this year at last ! ! ! ! ! Don't forget - the Spotted Ray needs to be added to Wight Magic's Species tally. Hoping to get my bridge back with the new Rod Holders and get Small Fry out there. Jim Quote
Rob Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I've never had a Dogfish or Spotted Ray before Jim, do you not fish on the bottom? Or do you have a cunning scheme to deter Doggies?? Quote
Jim Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I think it's all down to feromones and stuff like that. ( or at least that's the excuse I'm using ) Looks as though I've got a bit of catching up to do on the boat species comp. Looking on the bright side though, Anyone thinking of joining the club but scared of getting shown up can feel quite safe on that score. Jim Quote
