  1. Charlie, She's definitely dredging and she's pretty quick to. The 'Herman Jr.' is doing the surveying
  2. She has actually only been showing her 'restricted in my ability to manoeuvre' symbols, ball; diamond; ball; by day, red white red by night. I did expect a dredger of this size to display two balls by day (two reds at night) on the working side and two diamonds (two greens at night) on the clear to pass side. The correct symbols are there but are not actually raised. Sounds a bit confusing when I read it back but I know what I meant
  3. You've been spotted banging out those herring Only wish I was off this week instead of last.
  4. Dredger at work in Poole harbour. oops typo; Volvox Scaldia
  5. Had a good day out on Two Ways today: Great weather and good fishing for a change. We had at least 17 channel whiting to 2 1/2 lbs; 2 congers, one of which we didn't get aboard which was over 30lbs; 1 blonde ray; 2 bass, 1, 2 1/2lbs and 1 a bit smaller, bream, gurnard, smoothound, pout, oh and loads of LSDs. Alas, no cod but a cracking day to be afloat, especially with the weather we have been having of late.
  6. Jack, I usually copy and paste the details into Google. I have found quite often what appears to be a deal can be foung elsewhere for a similar price with all the gaurantees etc. A good example was the Penn Tidecutter 12-20lb class rod. People were bidding well over the price that I eventually bought one from Veals for
  7. After rebuilding Bliss 2 we had a few hours floundering in the harbour. Plenty of bass, checkers only I'm afraid although we did have a couple of takes from larger bass but alas never made it to the boat, one due to the fact that I was drinking soup instead of watching my rod which was bending double with the drag not set . We had two flounders and I would have had another one except for the fact that Alan couldn't manage to get the landing net out of the toilet in time A nice day out on the harbour and a bloody good laugh as usual. Cheers Matt.
  8. What about this one then.
  9. You definately had me going I was just about to ring Matt and ask him where the Betsy is. Sounds like a good mark for the comp. Is there enough room for 25 boats?
  10. I guessed it must have been but I haven't been out for so long I'm a bit out of touch. I'm off next week so I'm hoping to get out. Thanks.
  11. Nice one Paul. Frozen or fresh mackerel?
  12. small ads Have a look around the site. There's some pretty funny stuff on there.
  13. I still think he's a plonka for jumping straight in like he did. And what's all this "welcome to the mad house" crap, he's only posted 20 times.
  14. "The kayaks" aren't some strange breed of dog are they? Maybe; just a thought.
  15. Alun, I heard bits from that programme; the smoked eel did sound quite tasty if not a bit expensive.
  16. Rich, You could well be right about eating doggies. I've never tried one because, apart from being a bit of a pain to skin, everyone tells you they taste crap. If we did start eating them as part of our staple diet maybe we could get the LSD population down and wouldn't be plagued by them quite so much
  17. Well said Sam, If I caught a 50lbs conger ( highly unlikely) in the competition and had the capability of keeping it alive I would, but we haven't all got a live tank capable of keeping a large fish alive. The fish would definitely not end up in the bin though. Personally I think conger tastes awful but I know someone who loves the stuff.

    Braid

My set up has never broken on the knot always on the nylon. I did read somewhere that using the uni-knot retains 90% of the braking strain of your line, which, unless you are fast in the bottom is never usually reached.

    Braid

One of the main reasons I use a leader of less breaking strain than my braid is that I can't afford to keep replacing miles of braid as well as the terminal tackle.
  21. I just got 552.1 correction 572.5

    Braid

Jack, I think most people do use a leader. I usually have twice the length of the rod and three or four winds of the reel. This might seem quite long but believe me it soon gets shorter especially if it's doing its job. I've got 30lbs braid and 20lbs leader on one of my reels, but others may do it differentlly. As for the knot: I got shown and now I use this knot for nearly everything but I wouldn't even start to try to explain it in words on here. I'm sure somebody will post instruction later. Simon. PS: Jack, I've just had a quick look around and I think I use a double uni-knot to join the braid to the nylon. It's never let go as yet. As with most things though it's much better if you can get someone to show you first hand how to tie it.
  23. So was I Dave. Just hit Forum at the top of the page and then scroll down until you come to it.
  24. The crabbers probably threw them over when sorting out their store pots which they often keep not far from there. They're probably working their way back towards the clearer less muddy water around the Haven/ Brownsea Castle area.
  25. Sorry Paul, Can't see the link anywhere.
