  1. At least they won't have to worry about getting any thing around the prop in the dark
  2. It's not so long if you go by 767
  3. You should have a set of patio doors put in the starboard side of the wheelhouse; you could drive and fish. More cod for you then.
  4. Nice fish Matey, I thought you said he'd miss the wreck
  5. Matt, You told me yesterday that your gas alarm kept going off. This could have been a sign that your battery power was going down. May be you have an alternator problem.
  6. I'm ready to be corrected on this one Mike but as far as I'm aware there is only a limit for commercial vessels (skippers).
  7. Thanks Duncan. I've never actually read the law on speed. I always assumed it was over the ground. They can also track your speed with radar from the harbour office. I was rushing back from Furzey Island one night when my passengers wanted to get back to watch the world cup. Harbour control called up and advised me to watch my speed ( I was in Brownsea Roads at the time). When I got in I gave him a ring just to see if I had been reported by someone. He said he had tracked me on his radar at 16 knts and rushing back for the football was no excuse.
  8. Kim, Two very fast jet skis. They both sit on their trailors right next to my boat on the BP base. I try to be as nice as possible to them.
  9. Bob, We were about 27 miles south of the Anvil.
  10. You must have seen the Royal Marines flying around. Thier "fast craft" must do over 50knts. As long as they're flying the white ensign there are no restrictions on thier speed. Maybe we should design the club pennant to look like one.
  11. A bit for the table
  12. Dean into a 12+ pollack
  13. A couple of Matty's fish. Oh, and Steph
  14. We left the Dolphin Quays at about 0645 with a fresh southwesterly blowing by the time we reached the Anvil. The sea state wasn't too bad so we pressed on; not that comfortable. By the time we reached the first wreck the breeze had dropped to next to nothing. We were hoping for ling and Tony caught a small one (7lbs) first drop;typical. Fished with mackerel flappers producing ling to 15lbs until the tide increased. Then changed to shads, flappers etc. and caught some nice pollack to 12.5 lbs. We later moved to another wreck which we fished over the slack and caught more ling, pollack and two gurnard. Matt caught a small cod 7lbs and Tony of course (sometimes we all feel like kicking him ) had the best fish of the day;an 18lbs cod. We had two drifts on the Brittle Star ground on the way in and caught nothing; we were drifting at 3knts, maybe a bit quick? Great day out on Matt's boat as always. All except Tony (of course) had never caught ling before; it's always nice to catch something different.
  15. The speed limit is 10 knts over the ground. You can also be breaking a local bye-law if you are causing excessive wash, even at lower speeds, especially at areas like Brownsea Castle where passengers are being loaded regularly. I agree with you that the HM vessel in question is very inconsistant with whom he decides to chase. Last Friday I saw him coming down South Deep when 3 large ribs full of passengers (something to do with Poole Afoat I think) went through the Haven doing at least 20knts; he just let them carry on. You can also go as quick as you like if you fly a white ensign
  16. When I was a kid we saw one in the East Looe channel and my dad picked it up in the landing net; it must have been about 30lbs. We had a quick look and let it go. Strange looking creatures. I've since seen a couple more, one in the channel and one off of Cape Wrath in the north of Scotland.
  17. No where near Paul If I knew how to catch mullet with a spinner I would have been a bit closer.
  18. Paul, you're going to have to share this secret with the mullet and the spinners with us all. There's loads where I keep the boat and I 'd love to have a go from the pontoon
  19. Thanks Charlie, Jason actually had hold of the trace both times. It wasn't his fault but he was just as fed up as me. When I lifted Tony's in I grabbed the root of the tail and the dorsal fin in one quick movement and this seemed to work OK.
  20. Thanks for that Paul, It's not a case of sour grapes (honestly ). I've had the pi** (mickey) taken out of me for missing quite a few good takes over the last few weeks and when I eventually get two to the side of the boat they both sneak off at the last hurdle You win some, you lose some you lose some
  21. Adam, If you're suggesting T-barring off before the fish is in the boat do you think I should have counted my two tope which each came off of the hook as soon as the other crew grabbed hold of the trace line? This cost me ten points for two tope and also the points for another species. Or should I just put it down to tough luck? Simon.
  22. Earl Grey? never heard of the bloke Yeah Matt, I had two so close you could touch them. The next stage is getting them in the boat now I've sussed out how to get them on the hook.
  23. Nice one Jase even though my two dropped off
  24. Fairly good days fishing on Two Ways. Between us we had; gurnard; tope; mackerel; bream; dogfish; a ray; bass. Tony and Jason each had a tope around the 20lbs mark and my bad luck continued with the tope; I managed to get two tope, each about the same size as the others, to the side of the boat. As soon as Jason leant over to grab them they managed to turn and both times the hook just dropped out; so I managed to watch ten points swim away. Jason managed a bass of 5lbs on his heavy gear; not bad. All in all an enjoyable day, even the weather turned out OK in the end.
