Err. ? Thread got moved etc. , I hadn't been on for a while due to new forum etc No Mick , Hobbit sunk a few months ago ( see old thread) she has been recovered and sits in a Christchurch boat yard All I was doing was mucking about playing with the new forum in a the correct section , hence , blah etc etc !!! I put up pictures of the new boat , named 'Doombar ' the intention was to start a new thread in the correct section when ready ! The new boat will be that project, I needed something to kick start my mind and interest ( or call it a day ) I am going to need some help ! Gummidge has kindly offered to give me a hand . It was a huge decision, so many ifs and buts? After all the time effort and ££ getting the Hobbit perfect I'm still not 100% sure what direction to take . The insurance pay out has only covered the price of a new hull , nothing else . Of course I will start with life jackets, flares, VHF,rods and reels tackle etc . Its been knowledge to a few club members I have not had the best of health in the last year but at last a small light seems to appeared , hence taking on a project. ( fingers still very crossed ! )

??? The Hobbit is a totall wreck ( write off ) I lost everything, she was fully loaded ready to go out when it went to the bottom So the decision ( at the time) was to give up, find another hobby that i could afford as well as use the very small amount of time I have for leisure. The wife is very , very upset as I'm a total (//:;---!~~~#%^^^} All to add to the correct section of the forum ( please help me Coz I'm a stupid tosser section) when I make more stupid decisions.

As per usual, Hobit and Endevour 111 caught no Ray's whatsoever !! Should have been a one days specimen hunt !!! Brilliant day out , spent most of the day on the old southbourne pipes playing with tiny Mackerel , Gurnard, Bream etc Raftted - up on the end of the ledge , huge Wrasse, big Bream, Conger , Bull Huss, Smoothhounds . Shame it all had to end in the dark, stunning evening . Cheers Gummidge ! ( a tale for another day !!!!!!)

Sunday only, me and baby Gummidge on Hobitt Gummidge & guest on Endeavour 3 Leaving Christchurch together at some time Coz one of the old tubs usually break down at every opportunity !! Both of us on our first 'official ' competition , off the ledge (ish , sort of !) Look for the plumes of two-stroke and the endless cranking of bilge pumps !
-
MY GOOD GOD !!!!! yes; took all my own advise etc ; launched Hobitt from Christchurch ; Sunday 06/08/17. Tested new engine , seems ok so far, hight spot on, prop size pretty close. Transducer now epoxy bonded in hull . Loaded with perfect rigs, perfect fresh bait. anchored under life guard hut ( pout hole area ) What a total blanker I am , i give up ! ( it was very bumpy and windy so felt like crap all day)

My understanding is that it's impossible to understand what's going on !!!! Scenarios as follows Day 1 :same location , same tide , 24 hours between # day 1 , a couple of small wrasse . Day 2 : 12 different species including a red mullet (delicious) 4lb bass , 18lb conger , etc etc The difference was Sprats , none on day 1 , the arrived for 2 odd hours on day 2 to feed Wreck no 1 , loads of fish showing on sounder , we tried everything , blanked Same wreck day after , nothing showing, nothing biting , blanked again Day 3 ! Same wreck , etc etc and bingo , non stop action , Why ??? It's because its the bait fish they-are chasing , no bait fish and they don bother as such, the don't get really turned Fully on You need to start those little fish feeding , bait bombs , rubby dubby etc I learned so much by visiting the Aquarium down by the pier , they change the flow of the pumps and temperature to stop the fish eating each other ! Those big old sharks and eels could empty out all their neighbours if they got it wrong !!!! Funny thing is they DO get it wrong , bloody fish , can't trust them !

Got a bankside mooring (opposite the main slipway ) boats will still bang into each other, I'm not too concerned , my old Shetland is related to a Tank ! It's a bit of a pain reversing out to the channel , if the water is low I just use the auxiliary . Yep, getting over the bar out to sea can be challenging but as long as you stick to a hour each way over high it's ok .. I don't get out too much , late evenings or first light are the norm , over nighters seem a far better option from the ledge area . Come on over for coffee or whatever

I'm moored down on Broadwaters mooring Christchurch , going out this Sunday to check new engine is ok and a bit of a shakedown , not sure if I'm going out to sea due to wind picking up PM etc etc Are you on mooring ?

Hooky top tip is to fully understand when fish actually feed http://www.tides4fishing.com/uk/england/bournemouth. Forget all this hot spot rubbish , even the best 'supposed' places will get you nothing if can't get the basics right. You may see a certain area and watch those big bars of silver splash around on the surface , the chances of getting one to take a bait can be a impossibility . This is the open public bit of the forum so members won't post details . It's taken me 30 odd years to get a a basic feel on our harbour and I can still blank ! Yes you will always pick up the odd decent fish here and there , it was me that got the nice big cod last year along with a nice 9lb Pollock . Timing against the moon phase on the perfect tide is the answer , o yeah I forgot , the fish will only feed if the temperature is perfect to enter harbour water , , you also need the correct bait for the time of year !!!!!!! Please try and put this hot spot rubbish back into reality , all fish don't stay in ANY particular area , they move, hour by hour and only feed for a vey short time , I don't want to seem to be blunt but the only way succeed is to put the hours in and study the science , short cuts and fishermans tall tails will get you nowhere .

I dont suppose they could manage a USABLE slipway that people of normal financial means could use ????? Naa , thought not , i must be dreaming or to poor to worry about.

20 or 21 inch shaft ?? 60 hp to chug about., 75 hp just about right , i think its all about weight on transom, old engines around 100 hp were bloody heavy, some old engines weight were the same no matter what the capacity was i love the new etec stuff , 115hp would be my own choice , underpower would use more fuel and struggle to push -on . Get rid of the old motor, ITS PAST ITS SELL BY DATE !
-
Not for me ! contact GUMMAGE on here . More a post on what is about that will go on his WILSON flyer ( 20 ft jobbie) needs a decent engine, has totally given up on his old smoker ( at bloody last ! ) Im really not sure what way to advise him . im confident he will be happy as long as its complete with controls and guages etc Budget ??? who knows/ it his cash but may need it sooner than later send him a pm please advise welcome

I really can't be assed to get my huge carcass out of bed too early ( speaking to Alan on the blower ) 10: 30 bridge will have to do ! A very quick invite to Gummidge , a very quick txt to Dave ( DPD , it's going to be both boats (Marlin 755 things ) Ok, I knew we were going to miss the best part of the day, the tides were NOT in our favour , this weed issue , get it wrong and forget the fishing . Huge rafts clung to every inch of braid when the tide started running , slack water was err crap, nothing going on as such Let's give the old patch a go , maybe possibility of a bream ?? So let's see , lost count of the Rays, Alan once again proved you can get them on simple bream rigs with 12lb line , add a few nice keepers of bream , doggies of course , and me as usual had to be different , having great fun with Scad on tiny lures !!! Gummidge has to be fair a fairly tuff time in years gone by , that's why he joined , it's a huge learning curve Getting the right rigs with correct presentation did it , Ray's on feathers , smoothounds on a single tiny strip of squid etc etc lol ( the secret of the green bead strikes again !!) Slack water, off to top secret Ray marked X (shhhhhh) let's see if we can get a bit of bait , we were running very low , , nowt , nothing going on around the Sadler , DPD in hot pursuit ,. Arrgggh , the secret Ray Mark , who let the secret out , once again a few very pretty Ray's came on until the tide started , oh dreary me , it was a stunning summer evening , my limited time off will not be wasted !! Come on Alan , let's see what she will do then ??? Fisheagle lifts he skirts , blimey the fuel gauge seems to be doing funny things ??? Never truly realised how to burn up so much fuel in such little time , brilliant fun if a wee bit harsh on the skippers pocket !!! DPD , went off to see something called football ?? Let's stay out for a bit , plenty to do until the 8:30 bridge . Gummidge lives may miles away , it takes him a fair old while to get down and one hell of a drudge to get back to his field far far away , it has taken a while but he remembered the most important thing , it's call Scrumpy , yep made with his own apples from a traditional press ( he really is a farmer !!!) he gave us a few bottles to take home , yep he had a very good day indeed . I believe this could be a good year , it's still early in the season , the mackeral will show in the next week or so , birds have started diving for the Brit in shallow waters , they WILL follow ! Once again I'm really enjoying my time on the water , ok I'm not catching much (so far ) but we really are very lucky to be in the most beautiful place in the UK , cheers all .

Ok, a late catch report of sorts Gummage managed to haul up the biggest Gar I have seen for years ( sorry, I don't do sizes and records etc , it went home for the pot We also managed loads of decent Wrasse , a very nice pollock , , a weeny plaice , and loads of other assorted stuff (?????) Winds dropped, OK off we go , let's head off for the patch , errrrr , nope . Engine gave a enormous puff of blue smoke, oopsy , 2 cylinders left but that's not going to stop us. we are on a roll Made it back many hours later , a few days later I got brave to lift the hood , this old engine has done more than a gizzillion hours so expected the worse . I've only got this far , things are not looking great , not to worry , I've got a few weeks to sort it before our West Bay wrecking trip

Righty Ho ! When you come down I'm going to put up your ( now) official photo in next to your posts : ( !!!!!!) Oh , it's the gear box pinion thingy that went pop, plus a melted wire to the rectifier PLUS a spark plug AND the Kenzaki rod that exploded went back to Diawa , apart from that it really was a superb day !!!!! ( didn't put up report on our last outing Coz Jimbo ( Tiddler ) would have wet himself laughing at the pictures of your shorts .

UK to reclaim its waters by scrapping 1964 fisheries deal
Hooky replied to Mikey B's topic in In The News
It really wont make any real difference, how many "British" boats have sold the quotas and rights on to other countries ? they were sold on many years ago., the fish will still end up in a different continent no matter what flag or port they operate from ! The only real answer is the toughest call, total ban on ALL trawling for 10 years at least or its all over . -
The wife found the insanity bit rather apt !!!!!!!!
