Mackerel Meltdown: Industrial Greed Pushes Stock to 20-Year Low
Greg replied to Kingfisher 126's topic in In The News
It’s obviously the perfect storm for Mackerel. The demand for human consumption as we are encouraged to eat more omega 3 foods and the increase of natural predation i.e masses of Blue Fin Tuna, dolphins and whales entering our waters and the rising sea temperatures pushing the Mackerel further north. Difficult one!! This is a global thing. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, When I went fishing in Barbados with my local guy I fish with, he told me that Barracuda had not entered their waters this year for the first time. Barbados are also experiencing rising sea temperatures as well. Not sure what effect measures we can do as a club? Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Thank you Colin for your wise words as always. Much appreciated [emoji106] Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Charlie, You are totally correct Charlie. The problem is they discharge you so quickly that it is difficult to take everything in. I did accidentally overdose on the Morphine at home on Saturday afternoon and I would not want to do that again!!! Nearly had to have the ambulance out as my oxygen levels dived. But all good now and as each day goes by it seems to get a bit easier to cope with. Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great report Mal. And a brilliant walk. Even better seeing the Crossbill, very common in the North. I would say Sika. Thanks Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Chris and everyone for your kind wishes and comments. Although the op went well the recovery time is going to be far more than expected. Typical me impatient!!! This year’s fishing for me has been pretty rough due to the knee issue. However, looking forward to getting out in about 4 to 6 weeks time[emoji106] And yes, that is when the weather will change!!!! Well done Mal, You have been doing so much for the club and you need some time out. I hope you and Laura find some quality time to chill. Because of you and your energy I am in no doubt the club will turn a corner. Bon Voyage ( I don’t know how to say in Spanish [emoji1][emoji1] Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Take the offer Martin and soon you will become the great fisherman you strive to be [emoji3][emoji106] I would also say, keep things simple and don’t try to run before you can walk. You can not build a mighty castle without a good foundation !!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well to be honest Jim, you were restricting our view of Brownsea slightly [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great concise report as ever Martin !! Thanks Greg

Interestingly, Carol and I were having a conversation with Brad last night and he is interested in creating Short Short Films/Vids. These are mainly distributed amongst three platforms:- Instagram, Tic Toc and You Tube. And apparently no one platform is more popular than the other. Face Book and Twitter are not so popular with the Youngsters anymore!! This is half the problem. The club as an organisation trying to keep up with technology is dammed near impossible!!! There's only one answer for it. Attract a committee of 14 year olds 😁

I get what you are saying Lofty, but the club has just recently had the expense of up grading the forum. Would there be a danger the WhatsApp chat group could make the forum redundant? Plus you may miss notifications whereas when they are on posted on the forum they are properly formatted for everyone to view and post comments as and when they want to. It’s a difficult one as I am not sure they could effectively run alongside each other. This is just my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s global. Down here in Barbados the restaurants have a shortage of Barracuda. This has not been heard of before!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reunited Old fishing buddies go out for the day.
Greg replied to Mal Thomas's topic in Catch Reports
How times change!!! If I remember correctly Nigel had the most species ever caught in a year in the annual Boat comp of 49 Number. Just 1 shy of 50. Those were the days when you could go fishing particularly over Poole Patch and catch a dozen species in a day. Now you would be lucky if you can catch half of that in a day. I remember one particular rare fish Nigel caught that year in Weymouth bay was a Red Ribbon fish. Never heard of it before then. A very dedicated and a good angler. I bet Nigel was quite shocked at the lack of fish around that day? especially the Mackerel and the lack of Ray action!!! Let's hope for better times. We can't blame the weather this year. Great you all got out. 😃 -
This time of year, definitely on the Swanage Spoils. Tope come on the feed as the tide slows including slack but go off the feed when the tide starts running again. You need to time it right. Also, as well as frozen mackerel Tope will take Whole squid. I have caught a lot of Tope on Squid. As a tip. If you anchor up, plot your position with Swanage NCI on channel 65. You are within their view distance on the Spoils and they will confirm that they can see you. This is added safety if you anchor alone as I do on the Spoil quite often. Also I would recommend fishing on low tides as not to put too much strain on you anchor and if you need to leave it would be easier to up the anchor. But remember to tell NCI when you leave. Good luck Greg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a friend at Cobbs who was recently informed by Pete that if he took his rope and chain/anchor down he would splice it. I WhatsApp my friend Yesterday after reading Alan’s post and he is surprised he is not able to do it ??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's Good news Charlie. Let's hope they show up in larger numbers this year and closer to home. Good luck. Greg
