Well it looks like I'm off to Falmouth next week weather permitting to go tuna fishing . The logistics are not good 308 mile round trip 1540 ltr plus the fishing but hey ho never caught a tuna in British waters yet . Crew already sorted three of us going so just need the weather gods and good reports with us. Here is a report from this week Sighting 2016 October 26th Another FIN-TASTIC day as we have FIVE different interactions with Common Dolphins, and FOUR different interactions with Harbour Porpoise, incredible!!!! We also had a GIANT FIN WHALE sighted to us today in the Bay, WOW!! Plus we also had MULTIPLE GIANT BLUEFIN TUNA from NINE interactions, including some individuals which were EIGHT to NINE FOOTERS, around 750-850 LBS! Woweee!!! We also recorded a wonderful diversity of bird species, including 5 ARCTIC SKUAS, JUVENILE LITTLE TERN, COMMON SCOTERS and a DRAKE SURF SCOTER!! Such a fabulous, exciting and truly SPECTACULAR wildlife day Don't know how you fight an 800lbs tuna on 50 class gear stood up it makes the mind boggle .

The boat is ok small, chip near the gunwal which meant it was something rather tall. Went down to the boat and went back on the track to see what I had hit . The culprit was the simply vynl race marker not marked on the chart nor lit . Having purchased the latest navionics platinum plus chart on Monday and crashing into a buoy on Tuesday I had to make some noisey enquiries . First back to Chris at greenhams to find why it was not marked on the latest card ? . A quick phone call to navionics to be told it's an unchartered race marker. Then a phone call to Mr Stephenson who looks after most of the bouys Informed me that parkstone yacht club were somthing to do with so must phone "CHARLIE" . So if coming back from the island in the dark don't set a safe passage on the plotter you might get a surprise in the way of a big yellow thing THE OFFENDING LUMP OF VINYL -

Well it was off at 7-00 on my lonesome off in to the darkness yet again . Got there anchored up and fishing by 8-00 the ebb was just getting away perfect . All keen and my eyes were like they were super glued to the rod tips so as not to miss any thing that resembled a bite . After an hour with not so much as a tremor it was time for coffee and a bowl of porridge for breaky that normally gets a bite . Well after downing the piping hot bowl of sludge and swilling it down with the coffee still no action of any kind . After 2 hours thoughts of moving are crossing my mind but I must resist then a small rattle like a pout bite so I think strike it just to get rid of the little bugger . As I strike the rod bends over this is no pout and it ends up being a cod of 13-2 . So after 2 hrs I've had 1 bite then 10mins later I get another resulting in a cod of 9-4 that was at 10-00 and I didn't catch another fish of any kind all day . So I sat there trying to stay keen for 7 hrs for nothing except for one tremor that was possibly weed . The baits were like you'd just put them on after 2 hours except for the odd starfish hanging on . I decided to up and away at 5-00 as it was fruitless staying on so set the auto pilot for home ang got washed down and filleted the fish . The weather was unbelievable and the two cod were a bonus but the sting in the tail was I hit something submerged at 21 kit Big Bang on the starboard side . Stopped checked engine rooms and bilges and no leaks or damage to be found so must have been a glancing blow unless in the morning I can only see the Ariels and raydome. Summary of trip 2 cod and sod all else , Ate 3 packs of porridge through boredom and starting to talk like one of the krankies Then to cap it off hit submerged object Still keen though -

Is any member keen to go cod fishing tommorow Tuesday. Fishing the Isle of Wight and leaving at 7-00 on the dot to fish the ebb. Short list of must have or must do's . Have a good sense of humour and be a good angler and not have better tackle than me and also be good at cleaning down as this gets messy . Depending on weather back at 6 ish cost £50 towards the fuel and supply your own bait . There will only be two of us on the boat as I don't like crowds . First come first serve so come and try the Sea Wolf experience with plenty of abuse and coffee Tel 07967687155 Typical reaction when you loose a cod

Well it will make a change to get out as I have not been out on the boat for over a month as i'v had a weeks fishing on the river Shannon in Ireland for bream and roach very enjoyable . Been buisey since getting back servicing the boat and re aligning the port engine as it had a slight vibration plus fitting a new wash down pump ready for Winter coding . Filters £400, oil £110 , 1x par-max pump £300 and 25 mtr of 25mm battery cable to avoid voltage drop so now loads of water to get rid of all that ink. 1) Court Jester Neal + crew tba 2. YKnot Mal + crew tba 3. Serenity Tony + TBA 4 Sea wolf Fred + crew ??

No it's just a cock and balls story if you ask me.
-
Mike that's why you don't do any good all the other boats are only doing 93k 50miles
-
Kev I'm sure it will be ok for the coalfish as you have to wind like the wind for them but when you hook a hallibut you could end up with crunchy gears !!!

Well it was time to take the frivolous 5 on their wrecking trip. The sound of a foghorn alarm means it's time to get up and it's stupid time 4-50am . The mind and body are not in sync yet and I turn the electric toothbrush on before its in my mouth so I'm now wearing the tooth paste good start to the day. A quick drive down to McDonald's to pick up dogfish and Nigel at 5-30 and pick up breakfast which consisted of 6 sausage and egg Mcmuffin meals with latte coffee my first and last good deed of the day. We all meet at the boat at 5-50am exchanged pleasantries then ropes off and gone by 6-00 . A leisurely steam down the harbour eating breakfast and punching in waypoints shows its 38 miles to the first stop and its one hour and 50mins to go. We have to endure dogfish repetitively telling us he didn't get into 1-30am and had to get up at 4-00am for the whole steam out ,just hope he sleeps on the way home. I tell the lads to get tackled up as we've only got 2hrs of ebb left when we get there and I want to make the best of the tide . Most have a good idea but Mal has spent his spare time at home making rigs that look like orthopedic leg braces but out of the kindness of his heart he offers them round but we all abstain while trying to be polite and explain we don't use things like that anymore. It looks like he's wasted his time and if he tries to use one we've hatched a plan to put him straight into the wreck . We arrive at the first wreck and were into pollock straight away . After an hour I seem to be the target of the piss taking as I have not landed a fish yet the problem being I've been bitten off three times by a shark. I latch into a good fish so I give the rod to Chris but the shark promptly bites that one off as we'll so why am I attracting sharks ? . I decide to try and catch it but have no shark traces onboard but Nigel has some 200lb line and a short wire trace for tope so nothing gained nothing lost . We tackle the rod up quickly and it's not the prettiest rig you've ever seen but workable . Out with a large pollock and whip off a fillet and send it down . Letting the bait down slowly so it doesn't tangle it gets to about 40 ft and that's the last we saw of that rig and the shark it just steamed off with it . Everybody was catching but Kev and Nigel were definitely catching better than the rest of us up till slack water . Even though this mark was fishing well we still had no cod so I decided to steam 9 miles to a wreck we had done well on the week before with cod and pollock. We arrived at the wreck and the tide was pushing 1.5 knots which was perfect the only thing was the fish just weren't playing . We gave it an hour and decided to steam back to the first mark and hope the shark had left . We a arrived back at the mark and the tide was now 3.5 knts but we were straight into the fish again and they were fighting hard as it was wind against tide . As the afternoon progressed Chris thought he would try to beat dogfish Daves record from a trip previously of loosing 11 sets of tackle . But when he got to 14 we all stopped counting except Mr Witheford . As the afternoon progressed the wind freshened and by 4-30 we were all fished out , Dave had already had a sleep and Nigel had discovered a new disabled aid by living his rod in the holder while winding up . We had caught fish right through the day and had not even stopped for coffee so I decided stop the engines start the generator and make a brew and get the lads to start cleaning down and sort the fish out . Fifteen mins later we started to steam home slowly so as Dave , Mal and Chris could gut and fillet some of the fish as we didn't want that job when we got back . Dogfish came in the wheelhouse and did his impression of a nodding donkey for an hour , he must have a rubber neck . By now the weather was such that everybody had come in the wheelhouse and had decided to finish off at old Harry . The weather at old Harry was flat and calm so by the time we reached the entrance all the work was done , so we had time to dish the dirt on each other's mishaps. We were trailed by the ice cream boat all the way up the Harbour which made a good end to the day. We arrived back at the mooring at 6-30pm which made it a long day and we had done 118.3 miles .We had 80 or so fish with quite a few released to run the gauntlet with the fulmars and everybody agreed it was a good fun day nobody being exempt from a ribbing or two . Thanks to Mal . Kev . Chris . Nigel and Mr sleepy ? Freddy fulmars

Dogfish Dave & PBSBAC 2016 Species Competition

Boats entering; Kingfisher Court Jester Feisty Fox Sea wolf -
Winning bid was won by Chris Witheford, Dogfish Dave . Mal , Kev and Nigel for a wrecking trip. The trip will hopefully be this Sunday the 26th starting off at 7-00am with sausage and egg Mcmuffins and coffee supplied by myself . We will then steam to the legs have a few drifts and if it was like this weekend we won't be there long . Then on to the guernsey coast where the fishing was fair untill the shark or sharks moved in and kept taking the fish and lures off while playing them then the fishing went dead "surprise surprise". If the guernsey coast is rubbish it's on to the Bulgaria which always produces something but if not off to the line of holes and work along them until we find the fish . So it seems the 40 mile limit is out the window but who cares it's for charity so it needs to come up trumps and thanks to the lads on there bid . Probable statistics for the day Miles 120 Fuel 550-600 liters Start 7-00 am Finnish 8-30pm Going to be some tired lads at the end of it

That's ok Martin it's yours at the moment I'll bid later ??

-
Now Martin I know I being generous but not that generous it's either or either must be a rodman owners reading error I think LOL
