    Virus ....

Well, Whoever it is sent another batch of e-mails today at around 14:30 - 15:00 which I guess rules you out Rich
  2. Adam, I hope it is 1-2 winds. Forecast at moment is F2-3 ( 6 to 9 knots ) and blazing sunshine. ( Metcheck ) Winds still Easterly though. Bring on the Turbot and Plaice

    Tide Table

So when is HW at Weymouth on 31st March ? Easytide is great for short term but I am not paying to know when HW is over 6 days hence. WXTide ( which obviously I am unable to use now ) predicted HW one hour out and I don't believe it is a BST/GMT issue, so puzzled ( err was puzzled ).

    Tide Table

Welcome back Mike. I never realised that wxtide was such a problem BTW: I saw ure recent ltr m8.
  5. Thanks for the info Billy, I think others unable to move to Saturday ( I spoke to James ). So will be going for Saturday and fingers crossed that the wind stays down ( otherwise early trip back ). If 1) rough, 2) no fish by 12 AM , then will be heading back and going to football. If 3) not rough and 4) fish are biting then football can take a back seat I will get to yours at 6 AM Sat Sam, so be up and ready.
  6. Metcheck forecast a reasonable wave height of 1ft for Portland Bill with an easterlies wind of 15 knots ( F4 ). Looks OK I think, given the small tide ? Is it not a case though of "wind from the east - fish are least" ( or something like that ?? ). Oh and Sam - Stop looking at the trees and concentrate on your schoolwork
  7. Windguru Windguru is forecasting 14-15 Knot SE and wave height of around 1.5 metres and 1 "star" for surfing ( stars are bad for fishing ). Wave period = 5 secs ( = starting to chop up ). Mind you better than Tuesday next week, which looks horrendous !! Wouldn't the problem with Easterlies at Weymouth be the fact there is nowhere to shelter ? BB - what do you think ?

    Virus ....

Well Rich, I did suspect it might be yourself - rotovation.co.uk was a good clue ( I cant tell who exactly and I wasn't going to go around "accusing" people !! ). If you have a virus scanner then it should find the worm if it is still present and clean it off your PC. It is worth knowing it was there though. ( By the way I use the free one available from AVG. ) Free AVG virus scanner. ( a little big for a dial up connection but worth getting if you havent got a virus scanner already. ) I know I received e-mails at around 16:00 on 16th March. also included e-mails puporting to be from strawbett@hotmail.com
  9. Can do Sam. If you fancy feeling queesy Lets see what the forecast brings and maybe get BB's opinion on the conditions before going. No early night for me either as I have a friends 40th party to go to on Sat PM.
  10. Alex, I use an Abu Conolon rod 12-20 lb TC with a Shimano Charter Special 2000. This is a nicely balanced outfit IMHO. I also have a TLD 20 which I use with a 30lb class rod ( cheap Daiwa Viper-X ) for codding / conger ( the one ! ) and general heavier fishing. Before I got the Conolon I used the TLD 20 with the Daiwa for everything. Now I use the Conolon all the time . Well impressed.

  12. Alun, I filled mine differently to this. Unscrew container. Plunger is fully "down" - place over hole in tub of grease and slowly pull plunger out so it sucks up the grease through the hole, whilst applying slight pressure so the plastic thingy in the tub slides down the tub of grease. Place back onto grease gun and compress - ready to go. Perhaps it is easier to scoop it in
  13. Signed above petition due to thinking that commerical catching of spawning fish does not make sense. Then read the posts on what is actually happening in Guernsey and it is quite appalling. Pictures of the boats and description lifted form the forum below ( I am sure they will not mind ). Guernsey Bass Slaughter "For those of you that have only read the press or had a bit of hearsay, here's the real deal, cos' I've been there and seen it (it was my photo in the press). If the weather is nice enough, there will be 15-20 commercial boats there all day long, with maybe 5 or 6 unlicensed boats at weekends. All shapes and sizes from the Claire-Dale (19ft open dinghy) to the Nicola May (50ft+ trawler). All the boats are fishing rod & line, there is no other way to fish the mark. When the tide is running each rod will catch a fish a drift, virtually guaranteed. The fish are basically sat in the lee of the reef sheltering from the tide, and the area fished is about the size of the Albert marina. On a 9m+ tide the fish are usually bigger than 6lb, on smaller tides the average size decreases with a lot more small (<5lb) fish caught. Sea Fisheries have made the point that 'the small fish can be put back as rod & line is used'. The reality is that the commercials are putting nothing back, as all fish caught are above size limits. The bass are caught on live eels, yanns and various redgills/shads etc. with live eels much better on small tides. It is common for the boats to take 200KILOS PER ROD, PER DAY on the bigger tides. That's around 450lb, or 8 boxes of bass in our money. Either Richard Seager or Richard Keen reckoned he was getting a TONNE every 2 or 3 days. This is not an exagguration, I've seen 4 boats land 60 boxes between them one saturday a month ago. As the mark is with the 3 mile limit, I think only local boats can fish it, however I'm not sure, so I'd appreciate it if previous posters could remove the name of the exact location, you never know who's reading this!! If things do not change the mark WILL get fished out. Bass are lazy, and will sit in the most sheltered spot away from the tide. When these fish are caught, others move in to take their place, and in turn they are caught. This will go on and on until it becomes uneconomic to fish for them. Seeing as there's nothing much else to go for at this time of year the single handed 22ft potters with a small diesel engine can make it pay with very few fish, and consequently the shoal will be wiped out. Those of you that are staying away from the mark out of principle, don't bother, just go there, catch, and return your fish, no one's forcing you to keep them!! If you upset the commercial boys, so much the better! OK, so the bass don't fight as well as the summer fish, but the size makes up for it. "

    Virus ....

Received a virus in the e-mail today. I suspect it is someone who frequents this site. They will have following :- 1) Dials in using Tiscali 2) Has sales@rotomation.co.uk in their address book 3) Has geoff@boatlaunch.co.uk in addy book 4) Has a Gareth<>@baesystems.co.uk in addy book. If so you have the NETSKY.P worm.
  17. Rich / James , Checked the tide times - LW is at 07:57 but it is 0.8 metres and HW is at 14:00 and is 1.1 metres. ( Hard to find the HW / LW on the graph ! ) So no problem launching all through the day I think. 7 AM launch to get to Shambles by slack water ? or earlier ? PS: At least there wont be much problem with wind against tide Charlie, If I get to your house at say 6 AM - will mean Weymouth by 7 AM easily. Sound OK ( No problem for me as I will be up at 3:30 AM ) ?

    New Seats

They are like the smaller backed WISE seats ( in fact i think they may be WISE ones ) just well worn ! ( actually not too bad ). Grey vinyl colour fits standard pedestal / swivel mount
  19. I was about to disagree with you Adam, since I had looked up the forecast on windguru yesterday. Just looked up the forecast and they are predicting 18knots southerly with waves up to 2.1 metres. Will keep an eye as it seems changeable at the moment, but have to agree looks dubious at the moment. Looks good for your Friday trip though Rich.

Simon, I havent got any to hand atthe moment but will take some tomorrow ( provided I get home before it gets dark ! ). Does your Orkney have the side rails fitted ? - I think they are an optional extra. I have just bought two s/s rod holders for

Well, the passenger one is now fitted, will replace the other one tomorrow. Anyone want to make an offer for some old boat seats ?

    New Seats

My new seats came from Nautiquipe today ( price was less ordered over the phone than stated on their web site ). So should be able to fish Sunday in comfort
  23. Sam, That will do fine. Any more and my boat will sink I have got 3 packets of mackeral ( 6 of them ) and some frozen hermits leftover from last year + some squid.
  24. Jack, I know it is probably too late now, but if you lose an anchor it is worth getting the exact co-ordinates of its position as there are some divers in the club who would possibly be able to retrieve the anchor at some time.
  25. Gordon, Not an "expert" on GPS aerials, however, I would think mounting on an aluminium ( or any metal pole ) MAY be a bad move, as it will potentially affect the reception. ( However, I am quite prepared to be proven wrong .... )
