  1. Nice one Duncan. I did suspect that it would be available on-line but must admit, forgot to look.
  2. Alun, Did you fish the launce whole/live or did you use a fillet ?
  3. Have no crew for the species comp on Sunday. Does anyone want to crew on Neo for the day ? ( nice newly serviced engine ! ).
  4. Glad you all got out. I had the day down in Gunwharf Quays where the weather was sunny with a light breeze all afternoon as well. Plenty of boats out there as well. Noticed while we were there that there was a shoal of Bass ( I first thought they were Mullet but they were definitely Bass ) in one of the pools next to the restaurants there. What was impressive was the size of the bass. These were definitely double figure ones. ( Shame there were "No Fishing" signs around ) I wouldn't have been able to make the trailwaway anyhow as the bits to repair the outboard bracket won't be available until Tuesday. ( Also I would have been far to tired after the wedding I went to in Chichester ) Engine is serviced though and I haven't had to pay for it yet, due to late arrival of parts for the outboard.

    Old Charts

Charlie, Regarding datums. They are on OS1936 datum. No despair, I have a handy spreadsheet which converts between this and WGS84 and viceversa and has all sorts of handy conversions. I have sent an e-mail to the author and if he allows, will post this here.

    Hi Neil K

Welcome onboard Neil. You will find a mine of information in here.
  7. Selling my old fixed VHF radio ( UK Legal ) . Just over one year old. Excellent condition Non DSC ( but DSC upgradable ). Excellent VHF radio includes mounting bracket and fixing screws + microphone holder. Currently for sale on E-Bay but will remove it if a club/forum member makes a reasonable offer. M401 Euro ICOM Radio
  8. Adam, I think my boat wont be ready by Sunday, so that has saved me making an awkward decision I think ......

    Old Charts

I ordered some old charts for Poole Bay / Weymouth / Solent from the following site :- Marine Chart Services The ones I ordered were old cancelled ones ( not that old ). ( as I only wanted to plot fishing marks ). Bought 4 charts at
  11. No problem, I will decide tomorrow. I am half decided at the moment ( and after all I might not get my boat back for Sunday anyway ..... ), but becoming more convinced each time I look at the forecast....... Just thought it wise to prewarn Sam Will you be OK with bait if the trip is off - or will I owe you for the worms ( no problem if this is the case ).
  12. Adam, Wait until you get the next piece of that forecast and it worsens dramatically. Checkout www.theyr.net The YR or Windguru Basically they seem to be saying that there is a spell of bad weather coming and it will arrive around lunchtime on Sunday. Personally, I can think of better places to be sitting than on the Shambles when that lot arrives PS: Espec. as I will be hungover as well
  13. Sam, Will have to show you Christchurch Ledge - there are some good spots on their.
  14. Sam, You might not get sea sick but I do !! It is not so much the sea sick part of it that bothers me. It is the comfort factor and the ability to fish as well as the safety aspects. Southerly wind of that magnitude is bad news regarding comfort / fishing. Will look on Friday but if forecast stays the same ( and I can't see it changing to be honest ) then I shall be pulling out - sorry.
  15. Poole Charter Boats Link Looks a nicely laid out site. Well worth a visit.
  16. Not wishing to be a stick in the mud but I think we will need to keep a close eye on the forecast for Sunday, which currently is not looking good. Hopefully this will improve nearer the day.
  17. Kam, I am sure Rich will reply but as he may not be on for a while, I think you will find that Rich can walk from his house to Rownhams services ( carrying all his tackle as well ?? ).

    Aux Engine

Bob, Now that is a useful tip. The other problem I had was controlling the throttle on the aux. ( On the one I had you had to twist the tiller but it would go back to idle if you let go of the tiller. Any tips on how this could be done differently ? - not that it matters with my current engine as I cant even start the bloody thing now )
  19. Sam, Boat goes in for engine fix on Friday. They said it will be ready on Saturday, so I will know Saturday if all is OK or if it is not ready for whatever reason. Weymouth will then be its test run
  20. Adam, I will be at a wedding in Chichester the night before, so will very likely be later than the 7-30 AM off at 8-00 AM start. ( Will probably be more like 9 AM for me ). Therefore, will see you out there - Sam is crewing I believe, so will aim to leave my house at 7-30 AM ( zzzz ) and pick him up at around 8 AM - to get to Weymouth by 9 AM ish ( hopefully still before the guy in the kiosk ). Is this OK Sam ? It also depends on getting my boat back by the Sunday ( ie. Assume all goes OK with the engine repairs on Saturday ).
  21. Alex, Yes the web site has been down for a while. RE: Operation Sea Angler, we actually had Mike Ladle ( the author ) give a talk on fishing with lures at one of the club meetings last year. It was excellent and would be well worth doing again. His Fishing for Bass book is also superb. I have a copy if you would like to borrow it sometime. ) or buy it from e-bay using the link on this site ( direct link form swap and shop area )

    Aux Engine

Bob, I don't use my aux either. It is too damn hard to start ! ( I tried it at Weymouth and it pushes the boat along OK but it really needs to be mounted so that it is fixed ( as opposed to using the tiller to steer the boat ). In the end I decided it was not much use as it was unreliable and just extra weight to lug around. If you are interested Dan, you can make me an offer for it ( old Mercury 4HP 2 stroke engine which I cannot get to start now ).
  23. Kam, Quite right being paranoid. I too am always wary and if you were going to steal a boat / outboard then what better way than getting the address details from the internet. Obviously, if you tried hard enough you could work out where people live / keep their boats but you certainly don't want to make the job easy for any potential thief. Having a hotmail address and no reponse to phone calls certainly sounds suspicious. BTW: Have you noticed the stolenboats.org link at the bottom of the front page of the web site. Worth keeping an eye on. Finally, I have started taking notes of boats I see being towed when I am coming home from / going to work - this is after I found out I had probably driven past two which were in the process of being stolen.
  24. Thanks barry, they look just like the ones on Dawn Raider. Unfortunately, I have nowhere to screw the flat part down to on my boat ( not that I can think of ).
