My Orkney 520 with 30HP 4 stroke Honda on the back has a 25 litre fuel tank ( I think ! ). The most fuel I have managed to use was around 20 litres ( The Shambles trip ). I also carry 2 gallons reserve, but have never had to use this at all. MPG - I have never worked it out. How far from Wick Ferry to Christchurch Ledge ?

So it is ( Got used to typing "Pollock" ) Bit of a nightmare to change it now as I created the page using web picture creator.

The pictures I have so far from the recent Alderney 2004 trip are in a "gallery" now. Alderney Pics If anyone has more pics for inclusion then e-mail them to webmaster@pbsbac.co.uk cheers Paul

As Rich stated we also had a very good day. Caught two good sized bream ( around 2 1/2 lb mark ) and numerous smaller ones - probably around 10/15 bream in all. ( I think Rich's est of 3 lb is too heavy as I know the size of the 2 lb 13 Oz one I had a couple of weeks back). However, my digital scales were broken and I bought some Rapala spring ones to 30 lb which are no good for weighing 2 1/2 lb/ 3lb fish - so who knows !?! Had many, many Pollock ( just like scaled down Alderney !! ) plus a number of Wrasse ( Rich was getting the larger ones however ). Plenty of Poor Cod and no Pout or Doggies at all on the ledge. Interestingly, when we reached the ledge mark we found BW there. Now you know where the Whiting mark is Then we got surrounded by charter boats and "waked" by some idiot in a larger boat. ( We also found Tara on the ledge but the wrong one ). Then went to the "X-Dog" mark which some reason seemed to be nearer Hengistbury Head than I remember from last time ( Must be me getting more adventurous ). We found mackeral first drop and it was good to see the shoals in. I used my Keep Net I bought for

James, Stainless Steve - I bought my Alderney Ring from him ( before I realised there was a "Stainless Pete" amongst us ) and he is top notch. ( Popped in to his workshop and he is an avid fisherman as well ).

Regarding charging two batteries at the same time having an affect on the electronics. There will be no difference in charging one battery to two batteries. Never had any problem with interference and since fitting my second battery I always go out charging two batteries - when I remeber to put switch in BOTH postition ( 2 batteries in parallel is exactly the same as having a battery of twoce the capacity ). One thing worth bearing in mind is that when switching from battery 1 to BOTH to battery 2, if this is done whilst the engine is running then you should NEVER switch from 1 to OFF to 2, which could/will damage the alternator/rectified. The Garmin GPS you have Adam will give a battery alarm if the voltage falls below a value set in the setup screen. ( You will know this works as the voltage will momentarily drop and trigger the alarm when starting the engine - at least it does on my boat ! ).

Bet it doesn't work so well when measuring Electric Rays eh

Bob, Christchurch is now buoyed and I think it might even have been dredged ?? James and Adam were out last Weds, so will know better, but I got out no probs the week before. ( Getting a bit worried with the "Lifting skirts" bit - I was wondering what you had been up to !?! )

and I tried my best ( to no avail ) to wangle its location out of Adam...... but I recon I have one just as good

Dave, Get yourself a virus scanner. That is the only way to prevent getting these. Currently I am receiving 10 + infected e-mails per day on the webmaster account. re: Different operating system, if it is either Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP ( ie. Any microsoft one ! ) then you will be open to infection from all numbers of viruses. It's not Microsoft's fault, just that as it is the most common then viruses are designed to attack them. If it is Linux then there is less chance.

Adam, Don't forget "batteries not included" Also, I have the same scales and they dont like getting wet - I need to check mine still work, but I am hoping the battery went flat/corroded ( after about 10 uses ).
-
Rich, Yes, I am expecting you to crew. cya tomorrow.
-
I also leave mine in the unit and would advise doing this since the contacts are surely going to wear out if the map is being removed/inserted too many times.
-
Adam, On mine ( and would think yours is the same ). Press menu twice in quick succession and you get a main menu with loads of tabs on the LHS. Select the Units tab on the LHS. There is a Magnetic Variation option which on mine is set to "Automatic", but can be set to True, User and some other option I forget now. Hope this helps.
-
Adam, On the Garmin I think there is an option under the main menu to show True North or Magnetic North.

That was a classic. I asked Chris if we should be fishing fillets or whole Launce. His reply was "Fillet". But I have just lowered a whole launce ... "Well, there is always the possibility of a large Bass .......". 1 minute later ...... He certainly knows his stuff !?!

Just realised that I was that tired from the trip on the way back that I left all my rods behind !?! Fortunately, Rich picked a couple of rods up, but he has one rod missing and I think I still have one missing ( Need to check from Rich which ones he has ). I am looking for following rods :- 1) Penn Uptider in a Penn bag which was absolutely soaked ( remember passing it off the boat ). 2) Top half of a Daiwa Vulcan-X 20lb downtider in rod bag. 3) Brand new Abu Conolon Pro Boat rod Rich has a 20-30lb Abu Downtider missing. If all the people on Tiger Lily could look out for these, it would be much appreciated.

Day one I didn;'t have much to report as found the wreck fishing somewhat daunting ( my first time ). 1 Pout and 1 lost Pollock ( hook bent ). Day 2 and 3 I joined the Poole Bay Ramblers Assoc. !! and alsow found out how unfit I am. Day 3 - Much Much better 1 Turbot 1 Bass Number of Pollock. All I need to do now is find out where I left my fishing rods ( so tired I forgot to bring them home ).
-
Added a picture of Rich's Bass to the front page of the site. OK, it was a charter boat fish but was on a club trip. 12lb 12 oz and returned.

Back and awake now !! I was totally knackered after the trip. All the walking ( Not up to Les and Dave's fitness levels I am afraid ?!? ). Many, many thanks to Adam for organising the trip. I thoroughly enjoyed it and despite the loss of 2 days fishing ( and in my case might as well have been 3 days as I found the wreck fishing going out a little daunting, as not used to fishing in 300 foot of water and this was my first ever charter trip ). BUT fishing wise made up for it on the last day with my first ever Turbot + pollock after pollock and a small ( 2-3lb ish ) Bass. Rich's Bass was awesome and I thought it was going to be lost after missing the net the first time. Hats off to Rich for releasing the fish as well. Accomodation was first rate and the help from the owners was superb ( how many people would lend their truck to a group of total strangers ? ). Finally, many thanks to Chris Caines and Simon ( his deck hand ) for being so friendly and helpful.

I am sure I will have a need for crew. Elaine found out today that she had a hairline fracture which happened when she fell off the seat of the boat during the last Weymouth trip !! Helen has a bad back, so cannot go on the boat and my son is only interested if it has a screen So will have space for one. I'll let you have first shout Mike ( but as long as you let me keep all the bait and fish for the first 2 hours ....... ) Paul
