  1. Mike, Your MMSI number is the number you get given when you apply for one for your DSC radio. If you havent got a DSC radio ( I think you probably will have now with the new boat ) then you don't need one.

    Skate

Mike F, In answer to you question the answer is Thornback Ray as we use common names. However, it is really a skate........ ( I will put the scientific names on some time ) Been studying Fishbase ( amongst others ) as nothing on the TV and weather is awful etc. etc. Sorry but I totally disagree with you M. Mike ...... If it makes it any clearer there is no such thing as a "Ray" genus Skates and Rays are not different species of the same genus. The genus Raja is in fact all Skates. The family is Rajidae which is Skates and Rays. Where's a biology teacher when you need one eh =================================================== The species are classed as follows :- KINGDOM = Metazoa ( Animals ) CLASS = CHONDRICHTHYES Sub Class = ELASMOBRANCHII - SHARKS, SKATES AND RAYS Order = RAJIFORMES = SKATES and Rays Family = Rajidae ( Skates and Rays) Genus = Raja (Skates) What fish are "really" rays then ? The Ray orders are TORPEDINIFORMES = Electric Rays MYLIOBATIFORMES = Stingrays and Eagle Rays PRISTIFORMES = Sawfishes RHINOBATIFORMES = Guitar Fishes ================================================= References ( If in doubt ) Taxonomic Group Wilkipedia - Rajidae Fishbase ==========================================
  4. or rather ! Myself and 2 work colleagues are rebooked for the following Friday ( as in a week tomorrow ). Better tides and hopefully better weather. Hold fire in the Leeks Alun

    Tides

BB, This program here is pretty good and you can get the times for Bournemouth. I would work the offset out by comparing current times from easytide. JTides
  6. Congratulations on the new boat Mike. Get some piccies of her and I will add her to members boats ( same applies for any member's boat btw ),

    Catch Report

Replied to this on your other post I think. Coming soon ....

    Catch Report

In short you can't yet. I will be working on a page to allow this very soon. However, in the meantime you will see catches which people have written about ( that have been reported ) within the catch reports section and I will post regularily ( ish ) within the club members club talk section ( as non members aren't privy to our fish records. )
  9. Not so lucky with the wind. We are moving the date to next Friday ( those that can make it and weather willing ) as big tides and F4 northerly wind does not make for good fishing. Still need to get hold of Rich to let him know.
  10. Message received
  11. Unable to do the Saturday but I have a possible pass for Sunday. If going Sunday then I will need crew ( and probably a heavier car to pull the trailer up the slipway at Weymouth ! )
  12. Bob's not that bad Seriously, congratulations on the boat and I am sure you will have much fun with her.
  13. Pollock has appeared now as well

    Skate

I quote from the linked page ( Shark Trust ) "The problem is made more difficult by the fact that many of the species around the UK coastline are misnamed. For example, the thornback ray is actually a skate!" It is indeed called commonly a Thornback Ray but the point I was trying to make is that it is not actually a Ray as it does not give birth to live young. Agreed, Skates and Ray are members of the Rajidae family but a Thornback just so happens to be a skate and not a ray. "Historically, all the skate and ray species were contained in a single genus (Raja)" Skates (order Rajiformes):

    Skate

????? The club records are for specific species ( as in Ray - Thornback ). The only bone of contention is that strictly speaking this should be "Skate - Thornback". Either way they are the same fish. To my knowledge we haven't got a generic category for Rays.
  17. Blimey, one has just appeared

    Boat Rod

Have to agree with Gordon with regard to the Conolon rods. I habe a 12-20lb one it is great to fish for bream. I now have 3 of the solid-c rods. Rings are a bit easy to break on these and the reel seat is not the best, but they are so light to fish with and have ample power ( I caught my 30 lb tope on a 20-30lb rated one. The latest aquisition is a 12ft one which I caught the cod with. Must admit I have been tempted by the Daiwa rods though but have run out of money

    Boat Rod

This is going to be interesting methinks One point Mike. You say "I used a cheap Fladen boat rod which I guess would be about a 20lb category as I felt that to spend any more was unjustified." How do you justify spending
  20. In fact, someone actually used this system to prove their wife was having an affair... What they did was buy a PAYG mobile and register it with a GPS tracking system. Chucked the mobile in the back of her car ( out of site ) - volia - instant tracking device ! When suspicious - looked up the location, drove around and caught her !! Seems like this site is just the ticket for that
  21. What about the ones on the front page of the site
  22. Bob, Strangely, today I found a carp rod that I had totally forgotten I had. I dont think it is anything special at all. You are welcome to use it. Also have a few other course fishing bits and pieces which I will try to find.
  23. Neo will be there dependant upon getting crew and provided nothing else is planned over the holiday. Any chance of a trailaway to Selsey / Hayling sometime ?
