Yep The flurocarbon seemed to work as did the portland rig. Its got to be one of the best types of fishing there is, 6 to 12lb rod 20lb braid to and 2oz of lead. Those bass hit like an express train! and fight every inch of the way to the boat!

I went ahead with my sole trip on wednesday as planned .I went out late and headed straight down to barton. There was quite a brisk wind from the west but it was fishabil. As usual there were loads of fish on the mark mainly bream and small bass ,I also managed 2 small small eyed rays, great fun on a spinning rod! We Had to wait an hour into dark for the first sole and only a little slip.,followed by two more, only one to me but the biggest at 1lb 6oz. ran out of worms by 12.30 so a fairly early finish. I think we would of had more sole if there hadnt been so many bream and spiders robbing the baits. but mission accomplished I also managed a trip thursday afternoon for those bass we started off on the ledge and headed out to the Island, freshwater ridges and had a go on the bridge wich wasnt for the faint hearted with huge overfalls kicked up by the massive tide.It made me glad that the raider had such high gunnels. we seemed to get bass just about everywhere we tryed. with about 10 on the boat and a few lost fish, my best fish went 9lb 4oz, and 8lb with a couple of 4lbers aswell . We met up with Paul J on the ledge on the way in and had a drift up the run with live mackrel,(something ive always wanted to do),but no bass there.A fantastic day afloat and a few new marks found Tight lines James

Forgot to post this before , last week when out conger fishing. Just before dark Kev shouted " what the @$*!* is that" ,Darren and myself looked round to see a football sized object landing on the sea,it fell without a splash and was floating very high in the water, a bit like a balloon, it was grey/brown with hexagonal shapes all over, we all just watched it for a while as it drifted away in the fast tide. We then pulled the anchor to chase after it as we were about to move on to another mark. By the time we had got that done we couldn't find it again We thought some kind of weather balloon?...........?

On recent trips to the Island all the charter boats on the marks we have been fishing were useing floats. Is any one familiar with this technique? Ive never seen it used before. They seem to be useing a large cigar float, ball weight and live mackrel and catching every drift! The depth of water is from 27 to 60ft so they must be fishing quite shallow. Has anyone tryed this method ,if so shed some light? James

Headed out this morning with Adam from xchurch and most fish turned out to be a bit of a struggle. The mullet were playing hard to get but we did get a couple after an hours trying! I think this was down to the tide or lack of it. On to the ledge for the end of the ebb, and the pollock this time were hard to find ,I think again due to the lack of tide. This called for plan B my secret Huss mark this payed off and I quickly bagged 2 huss. Then we tried a few other spots and managed to winkle out 8 species each in the end ,9 on the boat in total. The main thing I noticed was the lack of bream, last month there were thousands of the little bait robbers on every mark I fished, when today Adam and I had just 1 each! I think this was down to the tide today being like one big slack! Species tally for the boat: mullet ,bass, dogs, mackrel, bream, pout, wrasse, pollock and huss. Made it over to the Island after the comp only for Adam to show me how to catch Bass he had 3 the best going 5lb James

Nice tope paul Its looks bigger than 31!!! who cares about the species when you get to fish on a boat like QT James

A bit of jealousy there Adam.... We weighed a 8oz lead on a moveing boat and it weighed 10 oz on my scales. not to bad I think, concidering we weighed one of the bass we caught 3times on your scales and after zeroing three times gave 3 totally different weights from 3lb first attept, 2lb 4oz second to 3llb 6oz third. On mine it weighed 3lb 6 to 8 oz. I weighed my sole on dry land and if you feel it needs a re-weigh. feel free its still in my freezer. Im not going to rush out and buy a new set of scales just because ours dont match,. I paid quite a lot of money for two sets of scales, a set of fly weights for smaller species and a set of heavy nash scales for the beasts and im sure just about every set of scales in the club are going to vary from one anouther and mine are of some of the better quality scales avalible.
