  1. Big Gay bear, on speaking to commercial Bass boys, they think the larger fish are lazy, and tend to feed off mean peak of tide, smaller Bass outnumber these larger fish, the demogarphic pyramid will show this on any sustainable fishery, so it follows that the smaller fish will nab the bait first. I have tried freelining livies, but have had better success with a small weight to get them close to the seabed., but at the end of the day, my own personal theory is if a fish wants your bait, whatever size it is, it will nab it. I stick to this, and it hasnt failed me yet!! Rich
  2. Why waste time dipping buckets in the sea?? Simply include a good circulation of fresh sea water from a decent GPM bilge and the problem is surely solved...........waits for the boffin from TekTanks to shoot me down here. The whole point of a bait tank is to give the bait fish a similar environment to where they have come from, so just circulate sea water at a sufficient rate to A) Keep the tank water at the same temp as the sea, Keep the tank at a similar aeration content as the sea, if you see the fish flagging, and you get good signs, as the do surface and gasp, simply aerate if need be. 6. Bugger, Bugger, Bugger, I wish these guys had come on board before the weekend past!! Looking at their range of DIY gear, it seems that all of their push fit fittings are the same as the ones I have used on my bodged job!! I must admit, they are cheaper, but we all know B & Q charge like wounded Elephants!!!!!! Great addition to the site, welcome Tek Tanks. Rich, miffed!!!!

  12. I have a well used tackle bow, the smaller of the Shakespere boxes, up for grabs as I have upgraded to a larger one. The lid has bungee inside, which holds rig wallets and a set of avon size scales, not included, and down one side in the box are two tubes which I used to hold booms. On the lid, is a white nylon filleting board, which is held in by screws from the inside. A bargain at a tenner, I feel. First come, first served. The new boxes retail at around forty squid I think, depending on retail outlet. Rich
  13. I can see that location getting a hammering!!!! Superb fish, though. Rich
  14. mmmmm. the secret weapon isnt so secret after all. Good reading, watch out for libel!!!!!!!! Rich
  15. PJ, to combat this, I placed my inlet high in the tank, put an elbow in the inside joint, a downpipe all the way to the base of the drum, a blank on the bottom of this downpipe, then drilled holes at the four compass points down the pipe. All my holes were drilled of the same diameter, in hindsight, smaller holes or indeed no holes at the base may have worked better, with slightly, and I mean only slightly smaller holes in the top half. Also, maybe it would be better to only have holes on one side of the downpipe to create more of a current inside the barrel. I may cut another length and try this next time were out. With placky screw fittings hand tight, its a piece of cake to change parts. As the water is pumped into the tank, the spray from the inlet downpipe is at the height of the water in the barrel, UNTILL such time as the water lever reaches the outlet pipe, which is three inches below the inlet pipe, thus allowing a spray jet of water into the barrel from above the waterline, oxygenating as it pumps in. You can also use a natural method of iducing O2 into the barrel, by piercing the inlet pipe at the top by the outside of the barrel, and the movement of water going through will pull air through this hole. I didnt like this method, which is why I included a small aerator on mine. It kept four inch trout alive all day in circulated borehole water. Hope this helps. Rich

  24. To put another spanner in the works, its also illegal to store ANY size fuel can in the boot of a car IF the bulkhead of that vehicle is not seperate from the passenger carrying body, ie, if the seats fold down to leave an open boot space, technically you can reported for summons. Its all about fumes and driver consciousness. Rich
  25. Fred, to ensure a good demographic size range of fish, for future conservation of fish stocks, it is advisable to not just return one size/age class of fish, if you see the size of fish kept by commercials, its anything above the 37cm MLS, I know they have to earn a crust etc etc, so I dont feel bad about taking a couple of fish for the table. You are talking to a bloke who caught a 13lber which was returned with respect to fight another day, despite the fact that that specific fish was probably far beyond its best breeding days. Studies show that the most succesfull breeders are the fish in the five to six year class, and at the end of this year Wedger and I will post on how our club Bass survey has gone, and post on age /size averages for fish included in this survey. So long as a form of conservation exists by us anglers, there will be, in theory, fish stocks for the future to enjoy. Rich
