Bob, can you wait untill the next meeting? Like a muppet I was thinking it was tonight, untill Martin kindly pointed out I'd be on my own!! You missed the chance of a wind up there Martin!! I was given one, a Garmin GPS to Laptop lead, by Garmin Europe, before I set off around the states three years ago, and I haven;t used it since, so you are welcome to borrow it, and circulate amoungst other club members who may wish to use it. If itsurgent Bob, I'll post it this afternoon. Rich

Dave, are you looking to fish the Solent this season?? Many excellent Ray and Bass marks are minutes away from Lymo, not to mention marks producing British Boat Caught Stingers. You have my numbers chap. Rich

I will try my utmost to hook us a discount for PBSBAC members, I'll pop in tomorrow and report back at the meeting. Rich

Alun, I'm fishing a flattie comp on the shambles next monday.....would appreciate some up to the minute tips!!!! Are there likely to be any Turbot nosing about at this time of year?? Rich

Peter, Charlie, I agree with what you state re, these reels, but when fishing in larger tides off the Wight, we sometimes have to use 2lb of lead, coupled with a heavy- ish bait, the 6000 sized ABU's just aren't up top the job! My charter special is fine, but I'm looking towards mid channel wrecks....and bigger tides....closer inshore, so I guess that the 7000/TLD15 or 20 will suffice. Comments appreciated. Rich

Good to see you on line Bill, welcome aboard, and tight lines to you too. Rich

Bob, this guy will service all makes of reel, Poindesters send all theirs to him, he seems a good dude!! if you phone him, 02380 777232, it may be prudent to mention the club, you dont know, he may offer discount!! I told him I have placed a thread on the site, he seemed interested! Rich

Had occasion to pop into this shop in Kendal Avenue, Millbrook, Southampton, for a gleg at his gear, and ordered, up replacement spares for my shimano, and Penn reels.....this was friday, last week. I had a phone call by midday Saturday, to tell me the spares are in! I appreciate that it was only grub screws for the lock on the handle, and the black plastic cover, over the locknut on the charter special, but a two day turn around is great service! I spoke to him, and enquired if he charges extra for reels recieved in bits, as self servicing had failed, with Bob F's experiences in mind, and he charges

I would echo that Adam!!! And i need a 7000 size to stop my 6600 LD from going crunch again! I'm also thinking of a Shimano TLD 15 for wrecking......are these two reels of similar size and capability? Rich

Adam, I've taken my Mini GPS Plus 11 handheld, as it was failing to fire up, even with new batteries inside, the problem was that it needed to be stored with batteries inside, as these trickle a charge into the memory, and save data, they took my unit from me, and like you, replaced f.o.c. immediately. There were three other customers in the lobby, all getting replacements on faulty gear. All of us went home happy. Rich

Nice report Bob, good to see the lads out again. It seems that smoothound never really left, as I've heard that a few have been consistently caught from that area through the winter.......all sizes too. Looking forward to the less leaner fishing trips which I'm sure will ensue, now the sea temp.is finally on the up! Rich

As stated, a fairly blustery day!! Even a couple of the Charters came home early, we sat in the Harbour and played scratching! I managed to sqeak a couple of v. smal pollack, and a tompot benny.........with mark managing a few of the latter. Despite the lack of fish, it was stil nice to get out, my first time on Loyal Royal, what a nice boat!! Great fun, and a small amount of time at the helm, learning at new controls, the boat seems far easier to handle being more stable in the water than the smaller boats Ive crewed on. A few well recieved sherbetts in the pub aftewards, and a win for Saints, just about managing to start the great escape!!! Thanks for a great day out Mark, looking forward to the next time. Shame no notable fish for the recorder, sorry Charlie!! Rich

Glad to see you guys faired well, also to see a couple of launce poking their noses out of the seabed! I'm off to meet Mark B in a mo, so will report on todays (in)action, on my return. Rich..............on seeing the time, I must be as mad as a fish!!

Dan, I'm not sure, but I dont think that a level wind is available for that reel, best bet is to PM BILLYBOY, he'll know for sure. Rich

Hiya Sam, Billy and I fished a small friendly match with a bunch of other anglers, aboard Colin's boat, Flamer. We had a few drifts over the bank, nil bites to our boat. Another boat reported a handfull of plaice, nil turbot as yet. Weather wa sfantastic, stayed dry all day, and a tadd of sea mist later on. Fish wise, we had Wrasse, Ballans and Cuckoo, Bull Huss to about 6lb, Pout, the smallest Whiting Ive ever seen landed from a boat, Doggies, (only two all day!), and Poor Cod, so species wise, it was pants!! Good company made the trip worthwhile though! Most fish were taken on rag, tipped with squid, all on three hook flowing scratching rigs. Rich

Fished the bank yesterday, NIL Plaice , NIL Turbot for us, three other boats on the bank, and only a handfull of plaice taken during slacker water. Weather for sunday on Theyr.net gives a force four, close in, and a five farther out off the Bill, so I think it will be a tad blowey!! I'm still up for crewing mark, and will cal you today. Rich

Bob, I had major probs with my 6600ld, and sent it back to Pure fishing, just before christmas. They turned it around in three weeks, so if you think thats ok, try them. Kendal Ave is very close to where we live, so if you like, you can save on postage, i can drop and collect for you. I think we are fishing the Banks on Sunday, so could meet you and collect it. Rich

Alex, I would echo previous posts re. the Charter special, it has served me well. I use a couple of penns, which have proved reliable, and have recently acquired a shimano TLD 5 which is no longer made...bought secong hand, a truly superb reel, as far as rods go, I am not an advocate of spending hundreds on rods, and have two 12 lb class downtide boat rods, both shakespeare i think, which are fantastic. My 30lb downtider is an ABU Enticer, which is punchy and does the job, this came in at about 45 squids. My uptiders are a shimano 6-8oz 10 footer, and a less expensive Ron Thompson, both are ok. You may like to visit the DEEPSEA site, and email Chris Caines, the Skipper of Tiger Lilly, as he is sponsored by Shimano, and regularly lends out Shimano rods and reels for people on the boat to try. Knowing Chris, he will reply to your mail, wityh honest answers to sensible questions. Best of luck, and tight lines!! Rich
