I''ve been using this knot for my braid to leader knot for years, with no issues. Last time out I had TWO of them come undone while playing fish. What am I doing wrong? (I've just noticed BobF suggests putting a spot of glue on it too, which I hadn't noticed before, but it would assume he's also had this happen for him to recommend a drop of glue). Does anyone have any suggestions, because one of those I lost was a nice fish!

They sound like what I was using. Maybe mine were a Lidl or Aldi special, but they were not very good.
-
Thanks everyone. I think Ill pop to screwfix and pick up some of those cheap work gloves for now and maybe get some sealskinz on order coz those neoprene ones were only any good when pulling the anchor rope in but they were far too cumbersome for actually doing anything more intricate than that.

I was out with Charlie and Brian at the weekend and wore my neoprene fishing gloves. I can only imagine they were faulty because my hands were freezing! I think i noticed both Charlie and Brian had gloves that looked very similar to each other. If i intend fishing in this cold weather I think I need to invest in something different. What does everyone wear guys n gals?

Likewise Charlie. Thanks very much for the trip out. Chilly but enjoyable and the soup was just a massive bonus at just the right time.

if there's still a space Id be happy to join you. Let me know.

all the more time to sit and watch the wind blowing the trees and keeping us off the water.

Thanks to Brian for the run out today. We managed to fill the time between bites with plenty of chat. Unfortunately the flounder were not playing today but I did manage a couple of bass (the best at 3lb 9oz). We popped round to the weigh in but saw no one there so headed home. As the saying goes, a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work. Once again, thanks Brian.

have a good one Mike. Make the most of it, its all downhill from the next one!

Ive looked through the competitions threads and cant find the answer to this. Whats the rules for this? Is it weigh in as previous years? If so where and when?

Cheers Jim. Sorry I couldn't chat tonight but my Chinese was calling me. I'll read through the links you've sent me and let you know how it goes. If I don't get on with it, I'm sure one of my 14 grandchildren will put it to good use.

Id be happy to take that off your hands at that price Jim.

Free to any member that can collect (or at a meeting). Lid has a small crack but it never affected its use or a bit of glue would make it water tight again.

Your boat is much larger than mine, so I should easily be able to drop from that 12mm. The 16mm BTW was a "marketplace" find for a price that I couldn't refuse.
-
That sounds good. I use the Alderley method too but i was concerned that pulling the anchor in with 3 strand 10mm would be uncomfortable for my crew. (It wouldn't hurt me, because I don't pull it in 😀).
-
I presently use 100met of 16mm "posh" anchor rope. It fits in the hand nicely and fits the locker perfectly, but there are times Id like to let out a bit more. However, if i keep to the same thickness and double the length it will need a bigger locker (which I don't have) so to allow me more length, I think I'm going to need to reduce the thickness (and probably quality) of my rope. My boat is probably less than 1 ton so more or less anything from 10mm upwards would in theory be capable, but I can imagine that 10mm would be quite difficult on the hands while pulling in a hundred or so meters! What are we using on our smaller boats?

Just a couple of congers and a doggy I'm afraid Charlie.

Many thanks Charlie. Very pleased.
-
Charlie, can I collect from work tomorrow (tuesday) around 10.30 please?
-
I can do whatever suits you Charlie. I can collect from you tomorrow evening or if it's from work I can do Tuesday morning.

Ill take the snowbee if its still going? I have a spare snowbee reel looking for something to sit on 🙂

If the weather gods are good to us, Ill be out Saturday on the hunt for something with teeth. (Obviously if the mackerel play ball) Any recommendations for either spots and is anyone else out?

I was out a few weeks ago and I seemed to be the target for quite a few of these idiots. I spent a large part of my day holding on for dear life as their wake threw us all over the place. All that sea and they have to choose the bit I was anchored in!! Well done for getting out, but these Easterlies are making the water much lumpier than they should be for the strength of the wind.
