  1. I feel pretty good that the TV went to a good home and not the dump Oh and I got a nice bottle of red for it Martin

  3. Dave & Derek happy birthday to you both Martin
  4. Assuming Awol is up and running with all her new electronic kit Dean and I would love to give the wrecks a go Martin
  5. The banks you are talking about are known as the 50/50 banks and are where you said they are. Easily found and marked on charts/plotter These banks fish for loads of other species as well. On a good day they can be very good on a bad day there c@@p. Waters around the bank can be as deep as 75' with the depth on top being around 56' I believe Adam had his 30lb blonde on or near them. Martin
  6. I will move this into the conservation heading and pin it so it's easy to find BTW I already signed Martin
  7. Happy birthday to you both, have a great day Martin
  8. As I see it and as the advice I received was if you are using your boat inshore or in harbours ie close range then BB can't be beat but if you intend to go mid channel or even across the channel you will need your radar to do different jobs so in that instance BB may or may not be the best choice. HD is as or nearly as good for close range but is superior for longer range work. At the end of the day all modern radar units will do a reasonable job it's just that some are more reasonable than others. Then of course there's your budget/pocket to consider Martin
  9. Lifted from an email received re the programmes
  10. Am I right in saying that HD uses a conventional, higher spec, radome with clever processing to make the images clearer plus enables close target recognition (as opposed to BB that uses solid state technologies)? Correct and for what it's worth I was told by an electronics supplier that BB radar would not be suitable for my use but if my budget stretched to it then def go for HD Martin
  11. When doing my research I decided not to go with broadband but have HD instead Apparently broadband is brilliant at close range but not so good for distance works whereas HD gives almost as good target separation at close range but is much better at longer distances Martin
  12. I have the new Raymarine HD radar with class B AIS transponder but it's not yet fitted to the boat so can't comment on how good it is however I did a lot of research and couldn't find much between all the top manufacturers. Furuno came out about the best but does cost a lot of money not that any of them are cheap. A site called panbo http://www.panbo.com has reports and tests on just about everything electrical but look out you might come away confused.I did Martin
  13. Definitely the problem here is speed. Use your kit and do what charlie says at over 10 knots and no (or very little) problem keeping a reasonable track. Do the same at 4 or 5 knots with no reference points its a whole different ball game, doable but a lot harder. The only way to overcome these problems is practice and use the compass BTW I struggled getting out and into the Rockley channel, even modern plotters take an amount of time to catch up and in a confined channel with little room for detour it makes life shall we say interesting Martin
  14. Well done Gordon on selling Fugazi to a member and good luck with your plans. Also well done to Mike? on the purchase of a fine vessel, have fun in her Martin

  17. Glad all were safe on Duchess 2 Would agree about the electronics being slow to react when pootling along. Dean and I went aground in Rockley channel when going out last Sunday and got totally disorientated then struggled to find a way out but did it eventually not at all funny on an ebb tide Martin

  25. I have four boys two of whom have partners with children (Yes Jim I'm that old lol) Both families are house owners but struggle to keep their heads above water indeed they may even be better off allowing the state to care for them. They are also tax payers and what really annoys me is that hard working young families like these are forced to help pay for others that can't be bothered to at least try. I have nothing against the state (us) helping those that have fallen on hard times however how someone that has never worked even though fit and able can have an easier life than those that at least try beggars belief I could go on but won't as this is supposed to be the joke section, although sometimes social care appears to be just that..a joke Martin
