  1. Will they let him back in???? Allan.
  2. Excellent Maiden voyage. We were late out and took some pictures of Club boats after 1pm. Kept calling on Ch6 for Spice of Life but you must have gone back by then. I was even picked up by Tony on Serenity who was wining and dining near Arne. Allan.
  3. 1) Fisheagle Allan Green, Jan Triska and John Stephenson.
  4. All the best with the repairs. It will make a great boat, Allan.
  5. Lofty I doubt if we will get down there as we were very late in today and missed the Tide, but you never know. Thanks for your PM. Look forward to seeing the new Yak. Do you have Call Sign? Allan.
  6. Fisheagle will be venturing forth, hopefully on Saturday and Sunday. May try the Bay for a Plaice or if very luck a Trigger. Will be on Ch 6. Nothing too strenuous. Saturday is a bit more serious as Coddy is on board. On Sunday, my Brother in Law, who does a bit of fishing is coming out to see what is involved in lauching/anchoring. We will be doing some fishing but, he is a keen photographer and will be taking some pictures with his expensive new toy. If any Club Members see us and want a free photo of their boat, please give us a call on Ch 6 and we will see what we can do. Allan.
  7. Glad to hear you are back on the water. Allan.
  8. Thanks Nige They were Factory fitted Exides, but where they were made I don't know. Batteries well protect and dry.New batteries so shouldn' be sediment so as you say, possibly none of above. Allan.
  9. Mike The boxes cannot move forward or side ways and are well strapped down, However, the batteries could move within the box. vertical movement would be restricted slightly by the cables but, as you suggest, there could be some lateral movement. Would some inert substance like polystyrene work underneath and around the sides of the battery or could that cause heat build up? If it is movement, it is probably up/down so something to cushion underneath? Wiill enquire what power boats do. Suggestions/help appreciated,. Allan.
  10. I don' know all of them but Ann does. According to her, Kelly Brooke is a tall, curvacios brunette who she thinks went out with Danny Cipranio a rugby player. Emma W. played Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and is now in a film. No wonder we do so well on the Trivia Round of quizzes. Allan.
  11. No Charlie, nothing overtight, no signs of overcharging or heating up. Maybe Nigel can tell us if it happens from time to time. Worked fine for 6 weeks. Don't know if damaged when fitted. Bit of a mystery, but not funny if you only have one battery. Makes a good case for a spare with rotary switch if practical. Allan.
  12. A few weeks ago I started to have problems with my plotter and radio and started to get a low voltage alarm. I thought it was simply short runs, use of bait pump etc. and that since the problem had been gradual in coming that a quick voltage check both batteries was needed. The main batter without anything running gave just under 13 volts and the service battery 11.4 volts. A charger check with the engine running gave a charging rate of 14.2 volts to each battery so all seemed OK on the charging side.. A charge to the service battery would only put in just over 12.8 volts so I was suspicious that there was a battery problem, perhaps a duff cell. I then asked Dave (Coddy) to bring his state of the art charger and tester, He confirmed that the battery -showing 11.2 volts and rapidly dropping to 9 - had died. Indeed, a further test showed it had about 100th. of the cranking power of the main battery, So far. we had been able to test and recharge the batteries in situ, but it was now time to take out the service battery and battery box from its recess. The battery had cracked and the bottom of the battery box was full of electrolite/sulphuric acid. The new battery, replaced under warranty appears fine. This is the third battery that has done this to me in 40 plus years, but the first on a boat. Had it not been in a battery box, i dread to think of the possible damage. How often have we seen batteries on boats without boxes? Allan.
  13. Some good positive networking and publicity. Well done Neal. Allan.
  14. Dave The old ones really are the best. Allan
  15. Can't seem to get it to cut and paste. 8) Fisheagle- Allan Green, John Shaw (Prospective Member) and Barry Cahill (Fishing Friend from Liverpool). Allan.
  16. Have a few electrical issues to check with Coddy and then hoping to head out around 9.30. subject to conditions. We hope to get a few mackerel for the winter and probably head west trying a few new lumps we have seen on the plotter and then try for a few wrasse close in and perhaps a short session around Chapmans A lot will depend on wind/sea state. May see you out there. On Ch 6. Allan.
  17. I have a small child's jacket for a 2 to 4 year which I brought to the last meeting for you. It's going begging and would need a little bit of needlework/ alteration if you don't find anything more suitable. Allan.
  18. Great fish. You are doing well in the Specimen Hunt. Allan.
  19. Good luck with sorting things.Hope its some thing simple and not too costly. Allan.
  20. Same here. On Sunday will be out with Frank and Jan. Will be around 8/9 miles southish of Old Harry looking for a different kind of toothy criter, hopefully a few good Tope during thr earlier part of the day and then try a few Banks. Thanks to everyone who gave me info under my "Tope" posting. On Ch 6. If anyone fancies buddying up please let us know. Leaving Parkstone just after 8 and returning before 6. Allan.
  21. Got our's at Force Four, but for a medium dog. Not sure how many sizes they do. Allan.
  22. Rob, I have every praise for the way you run the Open and the attention to detail. As you say, as soon as money enters the equation, there is even more danger of fidling. I saw this personally in several major Beach Contests we used to fish in the North East where the prizes were several thousand pounds a day. Fish passing went on as only one of each species could be weighed in, and on one occasion a rather ancient 6 lbs. bass, when gutted by the scalesman almost cleared the area with the angler doing a bunk and banned from future contests. Just to name a few of the cons. I raised the issue as I was looking into ways of getting weights without potentially damaging fish, but as the site refered to and Charlie say the Charts will only give an estimate. They may work when hundreds of fish are involved and a survey of average fish size to help with stock measurement is involved, but not for accurate weighing of individual fish. Lenght or width one of the methods used, is also open to abuse, I lost a year long Club contest by three centimeters which involved over 80 hours of fishing and several hundred pounds in cash. It was almost a year after I moved down here that it was discovered that the angler's measure had been tampered with giving him an extra centimetre per fish. Another debate centered around fish that were returned to the sea and washed ashore further down the line of anglers, this especially invoved whiting and deep hooked flatties. Some suggested cutting a v in the fishes tail which is also used by some Clubs to stop the same fish being weighed twice. Other said that this lessened the chance of survival even more. Where Club Members are involved and things are based on trust it is as good as it is going to get. Add outsiders, money etc.and charts for giving certain fish weights, and things become an administrative nightmare. I thought measurement could also counteract some of the comments about something needing to be done about Rays at the Open, but it is obviously not the answer. No criticism was intended and I hope none was taken. Is there an answer? Alan.
  23. Thanks Charlie, some good info there. The picture is starting to come together. Thanks for the handling info, Have been looking at several sites to see if there were any lenght/girth/weight charts to save damaging the fish. The best one I have come across is the Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Society which gives graphs for a number of species based on lenght/girth /male/female. How accurate they are, I don't know, unfortunately, only a few Rays are shown which I thought could open up a discussion for our Open - but that is another topic altogether Allan.

    Tope

I have been thinking of an offshore trip for a while. I fancy trying something different. Like many Club Members, I only have experience of the inshore packs with smaller fish which can provide excellent sport on the right gear. For the proposed trip, tackle has been beefed up slightly, copied trace patterns have been made up and old bait etc. has been saved for ground bait, we even have a Tope Sling, although if the larger fish are anything like their smaller brothers and sisters, they will not take kindly to it. Has anyone used one? Given some decent weather and tides (assuming neaps ?) and a buddy boat we want to go for it. However the question is where? I have been told deeper water (100 ft. contour) and a good scent trail help. I have heard of the 9 Mile Bank, but could do with some general help to find specific areas which could save a lot of time. I am not necessarily asking for peoples' marks (however I won't say no) but for a few general areas to try within 9 -20 miles of Poole. Any thoughts, suggestions etc would be much appreciated. I look forward to being inundated with helpfull advice. Allan.
  25. Keep up the good work. Not far to go and Gift Aid will help. Allan.
